You never knew what he was going to do, shoot it in your face, pass, fake it and then shoot, you truly never knew. His basketball IQ was something that was never seen before and has never been seen since. As it was said at the beginning of this video, he was a basketball genius, I’ve even hear him being called a savant, which I can’t even argue with. The man’s knowledge of the game is truly next level. It’s truly a reason why he is the only player to win MVP, then coach of the year, and executive of the year.

Something to consider. A few months before the start of Larry's NBA career, he had an accident playing softball, where he bent a few fingers backwards, on his shooting hand. He said that he never had the same feel for the ball that he had in college. And look at what he did, thinking he was handicapped by that accident. Imagine if he hadn't hurt the hand.

What you didn't hear when you were talking was that Bird played a game with his left hand just because he could. He had 27 points after 3 quarters! Also, when he got hurt, he had a fracture of his cheek bone and still came back out and finished the game.

If I was given the task of making the greatest basketball team of all time, the only name I am calling is Larry Bird. Then I sit back and let Larry pick the players HE wants to play with. In my opinion, Larry is the smartest, clutchest and best overall player to ever play. RoY, league MVP 3 years consecutively, 3 Championship MVPs, NBA Coach of the Year, NBA Executive of the Year... whatever Larry touched in the basketball world turned to gold.

From 1980-1989 he led all MVP voting for the decade with 67% the next closest was Magic at 37%. He won 3 consecutive MVPs and in my humble opinion is the greatest SF ever. Just over Lebron, their points rebounds and assist are really close but his shooting percentages is what separates him from Lebron. Bird is actually under- rated by fans because he’s been forgotten by the newer and younger fans. Us old guys remember.

Larry is the orginal professor of Basketball, his knowledge of the court was legendary, he seemed to always know where everyone was and had a mad passing game because of it.

No, Magic presented his jersey to Bird at Larry's RETIREMENT CEREMONY at the Boston Garden. There was NO GAME played that night. Celtics fans filled the sold-out Bird retirement ceremony and proceeds went to Boston charities. The ceremony lasted 2 hours, ending with his number 33 retired & lifted to the Garden rafters with the other retired Boston Celtics legends. This was not your average halftime retirement show. The Boston Celtics organization & its fans HONORED Larry Legend cause Bird is the NBA Best All-Around Player EVER to play the game.

Larry Legend GOAT! Mr 4th quarter. Mr. Clutch! Back in the 80's if you didn't have blood on your uniform you weren't trying. Bird's Will and Competitive Nature was only matched by Jordan. Jordan didn't have the tools Bird had. Larry could win a game without having to shoot. He didn't have to have the ball to effect a game.
The reason you never hear any one talk about the old school players like this is because it’s all new young kids! They don’t do research and just watch ESPN/fox, and believe what they say about players! They don’t realize they hold back things and only tell half truth’s because they need ratings! Dive deep into the 80’s and 90’s!! There is sooooooo…many tough players! Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball...My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted...What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who wasn't only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, football, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, & what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique & gifted players, I ever watched! Just some facts about Jordan and Bird. Jordan never beat Bird in the playoffs. Bird is the only great that Jordan had a loosing record to. Fans and media will lead you to believe that Jordan carried the bulls and the Celtics carried Bird yet when Jordan sat out a year the Bulls only dropped 2 games. When Bird sat out for a year the Celtics dropped 15 games. So facts prove otherwise

@@JonahReactions In Part 2 of that about a minute in, Larry sinks a game winner against Phoenix and points right at the bench. He was telling them "I told you so" because he left the Celtic huddle and told them the play. Dennis Johnson, who'd later become a key Celtic, was on that team.
