Houston barely made the playoffs the second run . Olajwan was great but Jordon was a different athlete both body and mind and will never be seen again in sports history. He dominated with his mind and God given ability we have yet to see since and doubt I ever will and wen we watched as a teenager we new then this was something we would never see again

After winning the first 3 peat in 1993 he retired because his father was kidnapped and murdered and for that reason he decided to retire to play baseball, which was his father's dream for him to be a baseball player. This is how he spent the 93-94 & 94-95 seasons playing for the Chicago White Sox. He returned with 19 games left in the 94-95 season wearing #45, which was the number he used in baseball because #23 had been retired for the Bulls. He played part of that season with #45 but didn't feel like himself and started wearing #23, paying a fine per game. until they brought #23 back out of retirement on the Bulls. And well, the next 3 seasons were his second 3 peat. 96,97,98 Then he retired. He returned 3 years later in 2001 at the age of 38 to play for the Washington Wizards when he bought part of the team and played two seasons to give exposure to the new franchise.

After the first threepeat, his father went missing for several weeks, and then was found murdered. Having lost some of his motivation to play basketball, MJ went to play baseball for the White Sox minor leagues. After 17 months, there was a MLB strike and MJ was asked to cross the picket line (to become a scab, essentially) and he refused. He returned to the Bulls and subsequently threepeated again before retiring a 2nd time in 98, when the two Jerrys broke up the team.

Great reaction young man. TH-cam has the full Bulls games like game 1 Bulls Trailblazers 1992 when MJ almost had 40 in the first half. Best athlete to ever play a team sport. 48” vertical 4.3 40 yard dash. Not to mention his play was beautiful to watch. He had a layup package like Kyrie’s, an assassin mentality like Kobe only better, best post player of his time, best mid-range game, 2nd most steals and blocks for a shooting guard. Best defensive player of his time. LBJ doesn’t even belong in the same conversation. Hell, I got Kobe over LBJ

The real reason He wore #45 is because, during his 2 years of retirement, The Bulls retired his Jersey (#23) in Ceremonial Honor, and hung It in the rafters of the Arena. But shortly after he returned, he decided that he wanted his old number (#23) back.

I saw Michael Jordan play High school Basketball in Wilmington NC. He graduated. From Laney High School in 1981, His Older brother Larry played Basketball and his Jersey was 45, Michael Jordan Took 23 since he said he was half as good as his brother, I graduated from New Hanover High school in 1982, Michael Jordan was doing a lot of his moves in High School.
New Hanover High School had Two players who would play professional Ball. Kenny Gattison played in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns and Charlotte Hornets and Vancouver Grizzlies, Clyde Simmons played in the NFL, He was an All-pro DE for the Philadelphia Eagles, He played in the infamous Fog Bowl game.

After the Bull's first 3-peat, MJ's dad was murdered. MJ ended up retiring for a few years and went to play baseball for the White Sox organization. If he didn't retire at that point, I think he would of had another 1 or 2 more championships or even a 4-peat. Once he returned, he attained another 3-peat. Something GS did not do once. Great reaction.

  • @pabloivanreyes7963

After winning 3 b-2-b Championships (1991-1993), he retired because his father was brutally murdered... his father had wanted him to play baseball (he had played both sports thru HS), so after his father's death, he retired from basketball and played for the White Sox minor-league team for almost 2 years...
He decided to return to basketball in 1995, and won 3 MORE b-2-b Championships (1996-1998)... he retired for a 2nd time because the Bulls management had decided (before the 1997-98 season) that they were breaking up the team and not renewing Phil Jackson's (coach) contract... Jordan declared before the season started that if Bulls did not renew Jackson's contract that he would retire again due to his loyalty to his coach...
He came out of retirement one more time in 2001-2002, this time playing for the Washington Wizards... he played for 2 seasons before retiring for good... the Wizards reg season record the year before (2000-01) had been 19-63, and with only the addition of Jordan to the lineup, Wizards went 37-45… in spite of a season-ending knee injury in Feb (at age 38). The next season (at age 39), he played all 82 games, and bc of all the injuries (particularly Rip Hamilton), their Playoff potential was derailed.
Although older now and rusty/out of league-playing shape due to not playing in the league for 3 years, a look at MJ's game logs for that 2001-2002 season, specifically pre and post-injury and as the season advanced, his numbers are quite interesting:
For the whole 2001-02 season, Jordan averaged :
    22.9 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 5.2 APG, .416 FG% .790 FT%
However, for his first 46 (pre-injury) games, he averaged:
    25.1 PPG 6.2 RPG 5.3 APG .42.0 FG%, .790 FT% in 36.8 MPG
And his last 14 (post-injury) games, he averaged:
    15.7 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 4.8 APG, .391 FG%, .787 FT% in 28.4 MPG
It would appear that, as the season progressed and MJ played himself into shape - the numbers reveal that he was playing better and better!
For his last 20 games pre-injury he averaged :
    27.5 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 5.2 APG, .440 FG%
And for his last 10 games pre-injury he averaged:
    29.7 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 6.1 APG, .470 FG%
In addition, for those two Wizards years, he donated his $1.0M (2001-02) & $1.03M (2002-03) salary, in it's entirety, to post-9/11 charities.

I know most people already answered this question about Michael Jordan's 2 year absence from the NBA. He won 3 straight NBA Championships (1991, 1992, 1993), but his father who he was extremely close to went missing in the Summer of 1993. Then weeks later police discovered his father's body submerged in his car in a body of water. It turns out that his father was driving on the highway, and stopped somewhere to take a rest in his car before continuing his journey. Two young men found his father asleep in his car and tried to rob him, but something went wrong and they murdered him. Obviously, the entire Jordan family (and the entire nation actually) was shocked and devasted that such a senseless murder occurred. MJ just couldn't do it anymore, and, deeply broken-hearted and at his prime, he announced his retirement from the NBA. Then he went to play baseball because one of his dad's wishes for him was to play baseball.
Anyway, he returned to the NBA 2 years later in 1995 with about 18 or 19 games remaining in the season, so he wasn't fully back to HIS playing shape. Then from the 1995/1996 season, he led the Chicago Bulls to a second 3-peat of NBA Championship titles --- 1996, 1997, and 1998. 6 NBA Championships in the 1990s.
Btw, to this day, Michael Jordan is the only player to win the PPG title, most Steals per game, Defensive Player of the Year, AND MVP all in the same season.

Watch penny hardware, Shaq, Dominique willkins, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olijawon, David Robinson, Reggie Miller, young Ray Allen, Allen Iverson, and of course Kobe Byrant!!!! When he retired , they retired his jersey the first time around. Up in the rafters . When he came back he wore 45. He then got back #23 and i think they had to pay $200k fine each game he wore it in.

After the Bulls 3- peated, Jordan retired from basketball to play baseball doing so, the Bulls retired #23 jersey. Jordan returned to basketball after 2 1/2 years he wore #45 which was also his baseball jersey # since #23 was retired. After a game against Orlando Magic Nick Anderson said #45 isn't #23. Which fueled Jordan to wear #23 again which he was getting fined for wearing because it was still retired. Eventually unretired #23 and won another 3- peat.
