Ultra Star is a great frisbee. It feels great in your hand and, in my experience, flies nice. It also doesn't hurt when you catch it like some discs can do to you. Hope this helps
@husejnc You want to work on stepping out when you have a mark. So practice just stepping further then normal and getting comfortable hucking from that position. Once you are comfortable keep repeating until it is a fairly fast motion.
@ImTheMetal @FlosWeisheiten So hear is my rule of thumb... 1) Power Grip - For pulling and hucking 2) Softer Grip - With fingers spread out like I show in the video for everything else Hope that helps!
It's nice to see someone actually qualified to teach these things on youtube. So many ultimate tutorials are old people who haven't played against a solid D in a while or people who just don't know the game enough but can throw around.
@alovseth I don't think it puts me at a competitive disadvantage. Most games I play in are observed and the observers do a really good job of noticing when the foot picks up after the release. The only time i really pick up my pivot foot is on big throws. 70+ yard backhands. Everything under 70 yards you can keep your pivot foot down. It just helps me generate more power.
@butor20077 So far all our videos have been directed to the younger/newer ultimate player. We will put out some videos for the elite ultimate player soon. For example: being able to huck against a straight up mark. Thanks for the comment
@itsmethekiddo Well its the best way of generating power from your lower body. As long as your release the disc before you pick your foot up your fine and thats not a travel. Thanks for the comment!
@jmerz09 This is where you really burn them on the breakside. Go to a vertical offense and move your dump further behind you then normal and you should have a lane to break the mark ever time.
hello brodie, our ultimate trainer told us to use the so called "power grip". For him it might work, he has the strongest backhand in our ultimate club in Vienna, but I find it really awkward and I loose control and accuracy tightening all four fingers to the inside rim of the disc... so I started to use your version of gripping the disc and it works very well! I just wanted to know if there are other players that are able to throw further than you BECAUSE they use the "power grip"? Florian
Brodie Smith Could you explain how you maintain accuracy while briefly turning your eyes away from the target during a backhand huck? It does seem like an unavoidable result of getting that big shoulder turn. Also, is it possible that in a game you would somehow lock your eyes on the moving downfield target throughout the entire throwing motion, but in this demonstration, aiming at a stationary target, you looked away briefly? Great video, by the way.
Brodie, i've got a pretty decent huck and use it alot. It usually leads to a stright up mark being put on.Is there any way to escape the straight up mark?
I use 175 for Ultimate. When we do freestyle (trick shots) we use a 175. 175 is just a really comfortable weight. I once played a pickup game with a heavyweight 200, and while it was fun, 175 is regulation so it's best to get used to that so any leagues you join you don't have to get used a whole new disc.
Watched this video because I was trying to win $1000 in a frisbee contest. I didn't win...but I also didn't embarrass myself in front of my entire job so I call that a win!
@tchanxx619 It might have to do with your release...are you holding that line or are you turning your wrist over after you throw. You don't want to turn your wrist over.
@brodiesmith21 Thank you! In your backhand huck video it looks like you're not tightening the fingers completely to the inside rim. But now I understand that the further you throw, the tighter you grip the disc... In the meantime my flick huck has become way further than my backhand because I refused to use power grip for my backhand huck ^^... flick huck video helped me a great deal, especially the thing with stepping forward and throwing the disc in one fluid motion...
Hey Brodie, I was wondering if you could put up some stuff in a similar vein about O-I hucks for both backhand and flick. As a Southpaw, I can throw a pretty decent I-O backhand as well as flick, but occasionally it can dovetail OB if I'm hucking from close to the sideline/ if there's a crosswind. Also, break-mark hucks is another cool idea if you haven't done much with that...
If you look at his motion in the slow-mo and cuts at the end, its much less inside out than during the initial instruction. I've never hucked with as much inside out as he shows at first; give it a shot flatter.
hey dude in your battles when you throw the frisbee upside down, i would like to see how you did that, cause u made very good shots using that technique and it went very far. And also what is the motivational song in the beginning.?
Brodie, This video is so helpful! I have improved so much!!! Thanks! and is that like a "team only" shirt? Because i want one it's sweet! I've never seen one that says Ultimate... Do you know where i could get one?
Thats not always the case, sometimes when you try to release it too low you end up raising the leading edge and it tends to float a lot more and thats what could also be happening.
hi! the last trainings i used to work on the high release backhand. i have problems to get them out with some speed without grounding them the outside-in way. got this throw on your list? would be great! shout out from austria!
@derxander44 I agree, video for backhand high release would be great! High five for another austrian who likes brodies videos! Wo spielst du Ultimate? Ich spiele beim EÖFC in Wien (Soul Gringos und 2EZ)
same for my forehand, when i tilt it inside out and throw it hard, it the disc doesn't even out itself while it's flying... it just curves the way the disc is tilted.
it actually looks a lot like a lefty baseball/golf swing. I mean Albert Pujols isnt a lefty but if you look at his swing at impact and Brodie at release, around 3:46, it's pretty similar.
Ima try make some videos of meh doing discing show how good I am but its snowing I might still go out cause I'm practicing on putting. also I am lefty back hand

thank you for your good video from Japan!
I'm a beginner of the Altimate, and I’ll practice a lot of time according to your advice!!
I play ultimate frisbee in broken hill in Australia and I love it so much. Thanks Brodie this has helped a lot!!

Thank you so much for all of the tutorials. They are helping my throws a ton.
@piepicker dont worry a lot more videos to come!
And Gareth Bale teaches frisbee!
DIV shut up
@KyleE245 How to pull will def be a Bro Tip. I don't know if people realize how important pulling is in Ultimate
@jmerz09 This is where you really burn them on the breakside. Go to a vertical offense and move your dump further behind you then normal and you should have a lane to break the mark ever time.
@BrandonEhlHughes roughly around 100 yards

Great video, by the way.
+Ryan Kelly if you play with the angle of the disc and where you release it you'll eventually find a perfect release to throw a nice Huck
someone give this guy a medal
@tchanxx619 exactly you just want to hold that until you finish your throw don't turn your wrist over.
Brodie, i've got a pretty decent huck and use it alot. It usually leads to a stright up mark being put on.Is there any way to escape the straight up mark?

@butor20077 haha not exactly. your going to want to work on pivoting to be able to huck against a flat mark
You should make a video about Defense, specifically skying. Positioning, attacking the disk, etc.
Thanks Brodie. Keep the videos coming please.
Your missing out on a “bro tips” signature disc 😎
@aggressiveskater245 coming soon!!!
Watched this video because I was trying to win $1000 in a frisbee contest. I didn't win...but I also didn't embarrass myself in front of my entire job so I call that a win!
the music is called "The God Life" Album Intro Billy Dha Kidd

@alwayslastinclass Long Throw
@butor20077 Of course
@savagechipmonk its a sick beat made by my friend...i don't have the raw file though
Does keeping your index finger along the rim help with technique?
@derxander44 Hi release backhand has been added!
If you look at his motion in the slow-mo and cuts at the end, its much less inside out than during the initial instruction. I've never hucked with as much inside out as he shows at first; give it a shot flatter.

Brodie, This video is so helpful! I have improved so much!!! Thanks! and is that like a "team only" shirt? Because i want one it's sweet! I've never seen one that says Ultimate... Do you know where i could get one?
breaking it into "pieces" ... love it!
Thats not always the case, sometimes when you try to release it too low you end up raising the leading edge and it tends to float a lot more and thats what could also be happening.
@huckdeep where?
Nice Brodie.....🎉🎉
could you do a video reviewing the rules of ultimate/ how to play?
Do all of these tips apply to the heavier disc golf frisbee?
he has a link in the discription to an online store. i think thats the only place theyre sold.
When he shows the movement his arm is straight, if u pause at 3:58 youll see he has his arm in an L shape, using the triceps to gain alot of force.
@TheSkrillexMan The brands vary, Make sure it is a 175 gram weighted frisbee and it can run you between 7-15 dollars
Great videos man
@KevinS1123 coming soon!
Brodie, how did you get that UF font for Bro Tips at the beginning?
thanks buddy.. teach me this trick... from Malaysia
Is there any tips on how to keep the disc straight? Is it just the point of release?
Ima be just like u Brody I love. trick shots and I love discing I can do trick shots with over anything
This man is a god
hi! the last trainings i used to work on the high release backhand. i have problems to get them out with some speed without grounding them the outside-in way. got this throw on your list? would be great! shout out from austria!
How do you balance keeping your eye on your target and turning your shoulders almost totally backwards?
@brodiesmith21 Thanks for the tips! Do you have a video for backhand pulls?
Approx how far was the throw off the bridge that made Sports Center's top plays, where the guys dove off the boat.
I found out my problem now, I am using to much arm and not enough shoulder. Also explains why i always feel pain in one of my arms after a good game
@jcdogman101 The official tournament discs in competitive ultimate are 175g discraft disks
@derxander44 I agree, video for backhand high release would be great! High five for another austrian who likes brodies videos!
Wo spielst du Ultimate? Ich spiele beim EÖFC in Wien (Soul Gringos und 2EZ)
A lot like tennis except the wrist snap at the end, but I could think of the tennis albow turn too.
Qiuyuan Chen yes tennis players are good ultimate throwers usually
Wow, that is awesome. I should learn this much easier then, good I got some confidence now on my forehand.
+Qiuyuan Chen it's funny I play ultimate and just started playing tennis and I made varsity because how similar ultimate and tennis are together haha
I've actually noticed that he lunged on the last throws. This is giving him the distance, that extra bit of movement.
same for my forehand, when i tilt it inside out and throw it hard, it the disc doesn't even out itself while it's flying... it just curves the way the disc is tilted.
@gviewchase there isn't a travel
@brodiesmith21 What is the difference between a backhand and a backhand "huck?" Is huck just a stronger throw?
Big fan brodie
@lexicon666devil Good idea!
this helped a lot and what is the song at the end?
any tips on hucking under pressure?
Thanks so much
Nice explaning
it actually looks a lot like a lefty baseball/golf swing. I mean Albert Pujols isnt a lefty but if you look at his swing at impact and Brodie at release, around 3:46, it's pretty similar.
That is a sick frisbee where did you get it?
brodie smith is good on frisbee
hey brodie what do i do to improve my target when i am hucking ???? plz answer
Brodie smith i was wondering if you could give me training tips of how become great friesbiee thrower.
Practice good form and build up over time. I have videos on my channel that may help you.
Ultimate101 thank You
@brodiesmith21 Are there specific frisbees to use for this? If so where can I buy them?
hey Brodie, sometimes or more than often when I huck via backhand, I hit the defender...Any advise? Is that a foul on me or against the defender?
Whats the best gram frisbee for a long throw
Could u just make a vid on how to throw a disc. Just like a tuturial.
Thanks
No, it actually reduces the amount of spin you can get on the disk, so you will have less control.
Hey brodie, how long did you throw the disc to alex in the video?
BRING Clean Cut Brodie BACK
brodie do u recommend a 100g frisbee?
yeah i agree dude, my friend has a 200grams one and its just not buttery and lofty, it's heavy and has too much drive
what do you think of the nerf discs are they worse than whamo?
Nice Videos. I'm german but I've understood it very good :D
@tedhellcaster Thanks!
do you keep your arm straight or do you use your forearm too?
Ima try make some videos of meh doing discing show how good I am but its snowing I might still go out cause I'm practicing on putting. also I am lefty back hand
