Ah, Bayonetta 3. I definitely remember how the 2-3 weeks leading up to the game's release were totally normal and not filled with drama and controversy. Yep, everything was completely normal.

But on a serious note, I have never been so let down by a game that I had been so hyped for like with Bayonetta 3. Just so many questionable decisions made in regards to both story and gameplay that left me gobsmacked with how bad they were.
From the multitude of gameplay-style-changing minigames that just drag down the pacing (looking at you Kaiju fights), Jeanne being reduced to baby's first stealth sections, Viola being undercooked as a story and gameplay character and yet she has the torch passed to her, the multiple Bayonettas not really meaning anything in the long run, Singularity and whatever that Shadow thing was' backstories being revealed in character bios after the fact, Luka being related to the Fae, Bayonetta and Luka being a thing when there was NO hint of a serious relationship besides playful banter, etc.
The whole thing is just a boring, confusing mess if you ask me. Also, I don't care of Bayonetta Origins clears things up a little; having to play a spin-off to fully comprehend the story because you did a poor job of it in the main game is just bad storytelling.
If I have any positives to say, the core combat is just as fun as ever and the soundtrack is also great as is tradition, but none of it is enough to save the game from being aggressively mediocre at best.

Yep. Completely agree. Bayo 2 was so good and then Bayo 3 was just so blah.
I get this game really wanted to be like DMC 5 with how it ends. But it completely misunderstood why DMC 5 worked.
This might blasphemous for me to say but Itsuno taking the reins for DMC and the writer Bingo Morishashi was probably the best thing that happened to DMC post 2.
@@bearerofbadnews1375 I don't think that's blasphemous to say. I think most DMC fans would agree that Itsuno and Morihashi taking the reins was the best thing to happen to DMC.
In fact, seeing how Kamiya handled the Bayonetta series, a series HE created, really goes to show him being let go of DMC was a godsend in hindsight.

I feel you , This was a pretty good story , except the weird bayonetta parts. and the ending with viola ...witch sorta make sense , but i don't like it.
I get it , but i don't like it. It's the same feelign i had with ace attorney 4. Is it really necessary to make it that the new generation is taking over the old one ? You could have done it so that viola is taking the job of bayonnetta without making it so that our favorite witch is retired/dead ( even if she is with her loved one).

been wanting to wrap up bayonetta for awhile now tysm for the recap and how was your time with the game?
Overall: Mixed. At first, I did not care for the shift in battle design, focusing more on summons/form changes rather than mixing up weapon combos and climaxes, but thematically it made sense. It was fun but just in a different way, and since this is a different Bayonetta person, it make sense as she grew up a different way and closer to her summons. The game is less than the sum of its parts as it is full of cool/fun set pieces and ideas, but they are all duct-taped together in choppy level design and uninteresting or erratic plot points. Without Bayonetta Origins, I understand how a lot of ppl were rubbed the wrong way by the misdirect of which Bayonetta was which (which witch?) and the downer ending and rushed torch passing.
