Edit; The investment to get it backup and running is real. But a lot of the infrastructure is already built and in place. The wells and ditches are a great bonus. You will definitely have to have someone live out there, when you start fixing things up. To keep the thieves away.

From 1970 to 1976 I worked in an engine rebuild shop most of the engines we rebuilt were stationary industrial, we rebuilt several of those White Superior G 510 engines I live in northern Wyoming they were from oil fields we also did Waukesha engines it was a good job fresh out of high school, learned a lot
OMG, look at all that farmland! Yes it’ll be a ton of money to make operational, but farmland is almost invaluable!
I saw your video where you burned your hand with the torch and commented that ‘it will blister”. Over my years in construction this has happened many times, one time really bad! Went to the Doctor, he told me that if you do not have any left over Silverdine Cream from a previous prescription the next best thing is ice it immediately to stop the burning going in deep, then Preparation H cream. After that I made sure every First Aid Kit had a tube in it in case of emergency to control that burning sensation no matter where it is!!! Enjoy your videos!!!!

I enjoy watching both commercial farmers, small farmers and homesteaders so I may have a different take on this but you can get one hell of an off grid solar array, battery and inverter system for a million dollars.
Maybe, but I have to be able to run three, 500 horse power motors, day and night. I don’t know anything about solar. Maybe it’s time I look into it.

@@BalesHayFarmandRanch I'm just a youtube addict but from both the homestead world and the commercial farmworld I think the takeaway is that the panels are pretty DiYish with so long as you get them angled right. Where the money hits the checkbook is getting a good local company to set up the system that controls, stores and inverts it. Recent video from Tom Pemberton who is a dairyman in the UK and another from 7 or 8 months ago from AmbitionStrikes who are offgriders in Idaho both featured serious solar pros for that part.

@Trevor ---so many options-----Why would you spend over $1M to run a power line??? Buy a huge generator and huge skid tanks and convert the wells to electric??? Buy a trailer house and put an employee out there for free rent to run the wells and gates??? Send transport loads of diesel to keep Gens running until you can swap out for a NG generator . I understand retapping the gas line and you could make your own electricity? NG is cheaper than electric.
A big old gen set sure seems like what I would be looking at. Usually big ones have no demand but you might not get much if you needed to sell it.
Electricity is much more efficient. There aren’t many mechanics left that will work on those large engines. There is a farm running a MASSIVE natural gas gen set to make electricity to run an electric well. It’s super super expensive. They are currently trying to bring electricity through the grid to them.
@@BalesHayFarmandRanch ok, thats different than Ohio conditions. a good friend of mine got a quote to bring 3 phase to his quarry and was quoted almost $8000. and was given the cost for the power. he bought a genset with a6=71 Detroit and was able to generate his own power for about 1/3 the cost of bringing in three phase and buying power from Ohio Edison. maybe power is cheaper in Arizona?

You need to put in some cellular surveillance cameras. Make you secure and tag it so if they steal it, you can still track it down.
Would take a lot of time, effort and money but would be a nice addition to the farm.

All of the uneducated populace have no idea what it takes to put food on the table. They think their food magically appears in the stores and the are upset that us truck drivers are in their way . Not understanding that without farmers and truckers, they would be in a world of hurt for most of their food.
I grow a small garden and we try to put back or can our produce for later uses. Apologize for rambling on.

If you guys can't get that land ready to pump and farm with the power company you should see if a solar farm will help partner with you for the ability to lease 10-40 acre's and in return they sell some power direct to you when there paying to run your power poles your farming right away when there running the poles to sell power right after there installation. I don't know how big your land is but sollar company's Right know are hungry and in many states as long as its 10 acres or more .
For what ground costs I would sure be trying to get it up to production on a partial bit every year

I supply gas wells sometimes with lng transports can run 3 to 4 200hp 12 in wells for a good month with one transport is not cheap but is a lot cheaper than pipe line and paying for new electric lines like you described in vid I’m down in Texas any questions let me know
I need to move 3,000 gpm on one well. Then 2,800 on the other two.

The cost of water is the reason I won’t be farming it. Electricity is too high.

Do you know just how much it would cost to build a substation to bring the electric to something you could use. Wooden poles are a lot cheaper.
That’s a hell of a cost to endure for hydro to be put in, have you considered going underground power? Or getting a diesel pump instead?

@@goodguygto well, maybe. It’s 300 deeded acres and 900 state lease. Even if you got an investor involved, it would be extremely risky. To buy the 300 acres out there is $21,000 per acre.
APS. And to pave the road? I have no clue. A LOT!!! But it’s a county or city road. So I don’t think you could pave it.

We use gas and deisel generators in areas like this. How many wells and how big a well is a factor of course.
I love watching you. There are so many similarities between our operations. I irrigate bermuda, Teff, alfalfa, wheat. We have been pumping since the 60's. My grandfather broke out a 3/4 section in 1953. I'm fourth generation. Keep working g the numbers you'll get it. By the way what is hay prices doing now you have first cutting.

It looks like solar panels would work for you and a big diesel generation set you may find a cheaper than mains supply.
Unfortunately I don’t know much about solar, what I do know, it takes a lot of space and it only works on sunny days. I do know about diesel gen sets. They are very expensive and diesel is pricey. The up cost of the poles is a lot. But in the long run, it’s better.
You should do more videos on the bulls and rodeos and a bales hay cowboy hat would be cool

I’m probably the only one who wants to know but how did the water test and what were you testing for? What kind of water yield can you expect from those size of wells 24 is massive. We have one thats 18 but most are 12” casing.
Funny you ask. The testing company messed up!!!! I have to do it all over again.
Do it take all the brick from the messed up house and fill the holes in the road out there and just start farming it use tarps to cover the hay that you grow there and let her rip!!!

Sorry but I have a few questions, are you guys in Arizona? Do you have to do alot of irrigation? Do you struggle getting enough water and do they put a limit on the water you can use? Isyour hay alfalfa or grass mix? We are in Iowa and we have to use a winter hardy type alfalfa, makes me curious on what you guys use down there. I have watch your channel a few times, and I love to see how people farm in other areas of the nation.

I work on natural gas well motors for a living. It’s a side job since I run a number of those motors myself
But another option you have is a diesel power pack to run the well. Then your only problem would be getting fuel to the motors

@@BalesHayFarmandRanch yeah I know about that as well. Main thing if was in your spot is run all three options over a long term cost plan based on current prices to see which would be better long term
The main thing with any motor is having the right amount of power and gearing. You might be able to use a smaller motor if your able to get a better gear ratio. Or if anything just use less power or fuel. I have my wells setup that I really don’t need to throttle up very much. Also with how I have wells setup I mostly use 350 Chevy big blocks but I have a couple 426 Chevy big blocks to run similar sized bolls at about 350 to 400 ft deep. When I was using the diesel power packs all I needed was a 190ish horsepower motor if I remember right.
The electric motors I have used in the past were 3 phase and at least in my area there isn’t many people who can work on those motors. Plus when one of those motors go down it’s hell trying to get it running again. But those motors eat power like no other. I have saved a lot of money by going back to natural gas even with the maintenance costs. But again with what your looking at doing is on a rather large scale and it’s going to be a higher cost no matter how you break it down.

I grew up wth some producers in Stanfield area that would Rip 3X after coming out of wheat or alfalfa because of the ground being so tight. Also changing the pattern & direction each time. Do you think you will put dwn any Lime or gypsum to help with pH and water infiltration...?

We can only build on the state lease/ private property.
Here in Idaho we have a friend who is putting in solar panels that are putting electricity into the grid. It pays his pumping bill. He is lifting over 400 feet and pushing water 6 miles then pressurizing into pivot sprinklers. You might look into using sprinklers instead of ditches and solar in the corners.

@@BalesHayFarmandRanch Does it pencil a profit enough to repay you a profit in 10 years ? If yes go for it if you have first choice after 10 years is up to renew contract. Any chance that the state may have low cost loans for developing land ? Check with FSA they may have programs. Here we have programs for grain storage, In AZ they may have programs for Irrigation.

I would be more concerned with the Saudis leasing land and shipping all that Alfalfa overseas. I also understand that the State of AZ isn't getting all the water it needs for farming now, so wondering why invest all that money in land they might close down again?
I’m not concerned with the Saudis at all. Like zero concern. The fact that it’s on the news tells you something. Someone wants them gone. Why? So they can take that water somewhere else. In 2 years someone just like me could be on that farm. Don’t trust, or believe what the news is saying. I think, what bothers me the most, is how many American companies use cheap and young labor in other parts of the world, to save on costs. But then a Saudi company comes here and all the sudden it’s a huge deal. I wish these “reporters” would cover the real corruption. The real stories. Once this farm is shut down, the cities will take the water, those wells will never get shut off. Economy of those small towns will be destroyed, and at the end of the day, foreign investors will reap the benefits. For example. The massive chip factory currently being built.
Sorry for the rant. I just hate the news and their 1/2 truths.

Driving out to the dunes of California and seeing the farms shutting down in El Centro and into Yuma always concerns me. Like who bought the land, or was it leased land from the states? Seeing the wind Farms and Solar farms popping up tells me enough on the California and AZ sides and now with so many water restrictions it makes me wonder what's really going on? Thanks for clearing it up..

It depends. We have a lot of different qualities.
Why don't u do solar panels. It looks like u have plenty of sun out there.
They won’t be efficient for what we are doing.
Better then where I live I can maybe buy 35 acres for that price
