- Hwoarang is a very difficult character to fight against, and many players just don't know where to start in learning this match up. This video will teach you how to beat Hwoarang's attacks that don't involve stances.

If there’s one character that consistently trashes me every time I face them, it’s Hwoarang, so I’ll be taking all the advice I can get 😂

Bryan's main here. Just when I desperately need to know how to deal with all the mixups the Hwo Players keep using Online, I found this video. It's so damn frustating, I feel like Hwo is always + frame everytime he does these kinda bullshits. Definitely gonna watch this tutorial till the end.
Part 1 is to deal with a bunch of the punishable attacks that you block, and part 2 and part 3 are to deal with the mix-ups and strings he has.

I would love to see more of how to beat series not spacifcally for only hwr. 😅 Since no one aside Peter really explains things best way possible.
Definitely, I will try my best to flush the character out and go into details.
Hwoarang put a lot of responsabilites on his opponents. He forces you to pick him several times in training mode to understand him and counter him. Plus this character has strong wall carry AND Okizeme and can destroy you in two times. If you master Just Frame Skyrocket (which is now safe) in combinaison with Backlash, he becomes low risk/high reward without using the famous d3 ,4.
But I let Peter covers that since he has well started this topic.
Just frame sky rocket was never unsafe, sure it was -10 but it has a push back that no one in the game were able to punish it except for gigas.

One of the things that get me killed against Hwo is how moves with similar animations have different frames on block (I don't always notice if he went into stance or not). Excellent video, looking forward to the next one.
Also as a side note, uf4,4,4 is a prime example of why you should block lows with db and not simply hold down.
Hwo as a character is an example of why you should never neutral guard.
I'm here for more. My biggest disadvantage is matchup knowledge.

Hwoarang spam always destroys me. I'm surprised to learn that u/f+4,4,4 can't be low parried - I've tried lots of times during matches and I would've just thought my timing was off. Great video :-)
Thanks EternalSilverDragon. I'm glad it could help you out especially in areas where you think you can do something, but in reality you can't. In this case, you MUST block, and can not low parry.

For b3 at tip range: all Mishimas and Jin can electric punish that.

Not only to milk it for the views and the watch time, but also because I (and a lot of other people) would love for more of these in depth, but also simply explained tutorials or guides to characters that can be really tricky to deal with and understand.

While I still don't like fighting Hwoarang, he's given me a lot less trouble lately. A big reason why is because I realized the vast majority of the mash happy Hwoarangs I come across don't seem to know what to do when you're patient. A lot of them will give you stuff to punish if you just hold your water and keep on the move. Being subbed to K-Wiss' channel also really helps. Hwoarang is good, but not nearly as overpowered as many think he is. Also, I want those Naruto statues behind Peter, but I've neither the money nor space for them.
Thanks for the comment Melvin. Yeah it can be hard to fight against a good Hwo cause they will notice that you aren't doing much and they will start to mix in things. The lower level Hwo will give you lots of stuff to punish. Anyhow, thanks for watching the videos, and yeah... the Naruto Statues are hard to get =\

Hwoarang is a right of passage character. You can't really say you know Tekken until you understand the Hwoarang match up.

Thank you for making this video. Really helpful guide. I started playing Tekken 7 a month ago and I struggled to fight against Hwoarang. Really don't know how to counter the spamming attacks with Armor King. The only thing that works sometime is down jab. 😰
I will continue to work on this video series to hopefully shed some light on how to deal with this character.
b1+4 is a very evasive move that gives a guaranteed f1+4 (and a couple other moves too) on hit. Basically, AK takes a big step back and also a bit towards the right, so its like he sidesteps and backdashes at the same time. Be wary with using this move though, as it is very punishable if blocked or whiffed. Hope this helps.
@@emogaysasuuke who besides AK can punish b+1+4 consistently? It’s -14 but the pushback is crazy
@@PeterYMao I think a couple characters, but that's the point though. Imo that move is very beginner friendly to use, since it's kinda hard to punish on block. But if you whiff it, you die.
Hwo has been a pain in the rear for me. I'll be sure to go back to this video every now and then to remind myself until it gets ingrained in me. Lol

Do taunt, then foward for 1 frame, neutral for 1 frame, and then back and 2 on the same frame. That's all I know.

Oh, so you gonna figure out how easy he is to play and how he has a few moves that are outright broken.
Hwo is easy and hard at the same time. Varying options up and thinking very quickly on the spot to adapt to the opponent can be tricky.
As a Hwoarang main for a very long time i see the good job u r doing here peter, this is definitely gonna help the lower ranks to deal better with Hwoarang, but as u know the higher rank is a totally different gameplay, i wish i can play with your bryan but unfortunately it can’t happen coz of the distance.

@@PeterYMao still a low being plus is so rare that I would have pressed all the time. Even on hit I thought it was at best plus 3 or something considering it is a high mid low string. So thanks for enlightening me
This whole time I thought I was just missing my timing on the low of that hopping string. A lowcrushing move that has an unparriable +ob low, or heavily + on hit? It sounds absolutely absurd. How can they justify a move like this existing?
Use more jabs to deal with this, or be out of range, or even sidewalk it. It's quite a slow attack so jabs are great at dealing with it. This is why players in the higher ranks / pros do not use this attack.
Im about to test it but im pretty sure you can use hopkick to crush that low.

Lol, d/f+4 is +8 on hit and tail spins. If people are pressing at +8 in that situation they deserve to be counter hit launched.

Don't try to power crush a power crush. Just block it and try to block punish instead.

If you use a fast move like a jab you definitely. This is kinda the reason uf+4 isn’t used in too many high level matches where players tend to throw out lots of jabs

Saying and doing in training is easy. It's hard in combat. This character is one of the cheat characters in this game. His attacks seem to be very flexible and overly stylish. And at the same time, he can continue his combinations of attacks as he likes, interrupting his previous combination in a matter of seconds. I have this character in 2 categories:
1) easy to control
2) with very strong attacks that in real life will be very weak.
It's a pity that Tekken developers know how to make normal fighters through mysticism in the game.
At a time when Mortal Kombat found their chip and make a lot of money on it despite the meat grinder. Ask why? because they don't downplay some of their characters in terms of power and combos. Since they make an ordinary fighter strong and thoughtful, let others be strong and thoughtful. It is not surprising that Mortal Kombat is many times more popular.
