    I've had many people on my channel ask my the main differences between the Behringer TD-3 or Behringer Crave and which one I'd choose. I love them both and want to keep the Behringer Crave & TD-3 but will try to point out things that might make up your mind if you only want one of these devices.
    Hope this helps some people

    If you want straight up acid bass lines get the td3. If you want something a little more versitile that can also serve as a gateway to eurorack get the crave. Or just embrace your GAS and get both.😀

    I have a TD-3-MO and a Crave and use both simultaneously. I tend to use the TD-3 for the acid-y stuff and primarily use the arpegiattor on the Crave. The arpeggiator really rocks when jamming live, especially with external gating and further modulation with the LFO.

    This is a great video, this is the kind of advice I need as a beginner. Now a video is missing for budget synths that produce nice pad sounds and one for decent but affordable effects devices, that would be great. Take care, cuddle your cat from me and, as always, greetings from Germany.

    • @toddsmithmusic3172
      @toddsmithmusic3172  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both which I own Microkorg and Blofeld are great for pads and you can find them for good prices used.

    • @Deeplycloseted435
      @Deeplycloseted435 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Pads? I agree that the Blofeld can sound HUGE and gorgeous for a very reasonable price.....especially in Germany. I ordered mine from Germany many years ago as it was far less expensive than in the US.
      Other ideas for pads: An old Virus is excellent and reasonably priced. I bought a used Virus B several years ago for $400. While it is missing many of the bells and whistles of the newer Virus synths, its VA engine is the same and sounds great.
      I like the sound of the newer Modal synths.....the Cobalt and the Argon, but I haven’t had the opportunity to try them out yet.
      The key to good pads, are nice FX. The Virus has great FX, the Blofeld not so much. So keep that in mind when buying. The Virus FX can be used as you can run audio through it’s FX.
      Good luck.

      🤠 A mini-PC running Omnisphere. Anyway, pads are really just oscillators or samples with a real slow attack & decay time, using the LFOs for modulation.

    Great video. Great jam with the TD-3. It sounded like it needs to be in a James Bond movie. I have the TD-3 in red. Love it's sound. The Crave I'm getting soon. But then again I want all that Behringer is throwing at us. After the holidays, I'm going all out.

    I have a Crave. I can just about do the 303 stuff on my Bass Station II. My only issue is I bought the Crave used and it came with no patch cables. Right now I'm having to borrow the cables from my Minibrute 2S. (I was planning to sell the 2S and put the money towards either a Micro or Minifreak.) Gotta order some cables.

    I just got my 2 first Behringer synths last week. I got the K2 and the Wasp. The K2 is just insane, you should consider it, it's like the Pro1 big brother that dropped out of school and joined a biker gang. The Wasp is cool to, the overdriven saturated buzzy filter sounds like nothing else but is not as versatile as a model D a pro-1 or a K2. I'm waiting impatiently for the PRO-800 to complete the trio.

    I ran my TD-3 to drive my Model D via midi and then ran the TD-3 through the audio in on the Model D. Needless to say I got some pretty fat sounds out of them. As soon as I make time to get something set up studio wise I'm going to post some videos. I love that Analog is back!! Keep the videos coming my friend!!

    I have the Roland TB3 so I have all the acid I need. It's totally a one trick pony, but the used market was kind to me so no regerts. I'm definitely intrigued by the Crave and all the fun patching opportunities to make my Neutron angry. Keep up the good work :)

    How did you get your TD-3 to read notes sent from an external sequencer? I can get it to clock synch fine, but I can’t get it to read notes sent from my MPC.
    It’s making me crazy.

  • @sinistar99
    @sinistar99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had a crave, and even though it feels more sturdy those little switches broke and I ended up returning it and getting a PRO-1 instead. I liked the Crave a lot, but those dinky little switches break if you use them performatively like I like to. And I wasn't like yanking on them or anything just using them. I've punished my Model D much harder. That thing is SOLID. Just the feel of it in a music store is partly why I got it.

  • @DocBolus
    @DocBolus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beat me to it.
    I think we agree pretty much on the sound aspect but the real difference between the 2 is the sequencer on the Crave. There are some cool tricks you can do with the Crave sequencer that just can't be done on the TD-3 though to be fair both are tricky to sequence in the box. The crave probably being slightly easier to work with in general.

    I would go with the Crave and get a Cyclone tt-303 which has more squelch and doesn't have that Weird resonant filter sound that the td-3 has, which the Roland tb-303 hasn't.

    I'd have to pull you up on what you say re: the TD-3 versus the original 303. Yes, they are both made of plastic, but I don't think it's fair to say that that the TD's build is 'the same' as the original. Obviously, the original 303s have stood the test of time and that I suspect that the TD-3s will have trouble lasting that long due to their budget nature. Don't get me wrong - I have a TD-3 myself - but I'd never say that it was 'the same' as an original 303 or call the original 'cheap'. That's' just the way Roland gear was in the early 80s. Remember - it's 40 years old...
