They were once called the most "boring" club in England - but are Bristol City finally on the move up? Ryan Dilks thinks so.
He explains why they have been "boring" in recent years and why that's about to change.

Great to see some positivity about City from outside and within the fan base !!
You forgot to mention Yu Hirakawa, our first ever Japanese player and Olympian (currently injured, but shows be back soon) and George Earthy, on a season-long loan from West Ham - one of the most talented young players in the country! I haven't felt this optimistic since the days of Steve Cotterell - the Cider Army is on the march
COYR and just signed a good player from Oxford utd and Taylor Gardner Hickman gone out on loan got some good players upfront and midfield get defence to sort things out and o Leary is good aswell just needs more confidence and we'll do good 😊😊😊
He is a baller they said he’s coming back from injury from the olympics
Thank you for your comment as a Japanese live in Bristol now. 😭
This is the best Bristol City squad I've ever seen. Playing good football. Lots of academy players. I was worried when we sold Scott and Semenyo but we look better than ever now. Max Bird looks like a great signing.
You were worried? 🤣🤣 stfu

Thank you for a great video of my team, i feel the same good things are coming. Play offs is my bet this season
all of that poor spending came from mark ashton btw. makes me sick seeing him take all the plaudits for ipswich’s success when he left us in the state we were in.
The Ipswich fans love him, and you lot have received some stick from Ipswich fans who have said you blamed your failures on him. He hasn't really faced any real adversity yet, so time will tell.
Top marks young man, very well narrated .
Bristol city are also a great case example of why it’s not a good idea to give players extraordinarily long contracts on high wages, it almost cost us our club in the 80s, with giving players 10 year contracts, no one mentions this when talking about the current transfer market ………..But onwards and upwards it would be great to see a good run and mount a challenge for the playoffs 👍🏻
Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember the "Ashton Gate 8" if they hadn't agreed to contact changes at the time there really would only be one team on Bristol
Admittedly it was before my time but we were lucky to have players who loved the club enough to tear up their contracts to keep us going, and for the people like myself born afterwards to be able to follow our local club, I do wonder how many players would do that in there current climate. No ones wants to follow the gas if they don’t have to 😂
@@RyanCH92 amen to that
@@RyanCH92I’d rather chew nails than support that shit club. Only one team in Bristol 🔴⚪️
Some "supporters" (even those old enough to have been supporting BCFC in 1982) need to go do some homework. The players on the longest and most lucrative contracts had been sold (Tom Ritchie, Clive Whitehead, Gerry Gow). The Ashton Gate 8 were either nearing the end of their contracts from the First Division days, or not on huge wages ( Two at least were on no more than £400 p.w.) . The long contracts for those that had left (Whitehead, I understand, had an 11 year contract) after Gary Collier walked away for nothing under "freedom of contract" rules...exactly as Kalas, DaSilva and Massengo did. The difference is that nowadays there are far more revenue streams such as kit sponsors. @RyanCH92...take a look at Chelsea's player contracts...lengthy by todays standards, so that transfer fees can be spread over the whole of the contract to meet FFP rules...something that wasn't a consideration in 1982. Then there's the massive financial mismanagement in the early 80's.. Mick Harford bought in for a combined £150,000 in the year that the directors must have known the club was already on the brink of insolvency ( Harford was sold at a loss to First division Birmingham, 7 months after joining City). Steve Lansdown should be commended for bringing financial stability to our club, whilst still enabling Lee Johnson to heavily invest in the playing squad. It's no wonder we have been "boring" . I hope Lee Manning can give us exciting attacking (and goalscoring) football and keep the whole squad happy...which will, hopefully bring a top 6 finish this season.
Amazing video! i hope we finish top 6 this season with that team
Been watching my club since i was 4, and its so difficult to watch us every season be so inconsistent, but i do think we now have a real chance for this season
That's the most intelligent analysis of the club I've heard for a very long time. Proper credit to NP. The question that remains unanswered is how the dreadful Lee Johnson was entrusted for so long.
Because of his old man, his name allowed Lee to get away with murder almost
I love this deep dive this is brilliant - as a Championship neutral I’d love more of these!!
Hi & hello from Oz, thankyou for your honest insight into my club of nearly 70yrs, hopefully your prediction/theory will become a fact in my lifetime.
Cheers from Oz
Nice video, as a long suffering Bristol City fan I can't honestly say I believe we will ever make the prem, there is more chance we will be relegated than reach the premier league in the near future but I'd love to be wrong. We have got some exciting players and a young manager but this has largely been the case for the past decade and nobody since Gary Johnson has ever taken us close. We will lose on Saturday to Coventry who are a much better run club than us and as city fans we just need to accept that 9th place is about our ceiling and 14th is probably the lowest we will finish.
Fans like you really irritate me. Go back to supporting Liverpool from your sofa
Pessimistic as always when seeing a video like this, however very well put together. Few transfers of ours left out but overall you hit the nail on the head. Johnson screwed us. NP helped keep the boat alive and manning is the new captain. COYR CTID 🔴⚪️
Thank you for finally admitting Nigel Pearson did a solid just by stabilising the club. He has laid the foundations down for Liam to make City become successful.
In truth I cant see City ever making the Prem and that's a reality that i've accepted a long time ago.
I'm just glad we have a team full of technical footballers for a change and are looking to be a bit more 'front foot' because the past 6 years have been a struggle to watch, and City as a fanbase have always preferred entertainment over results imo.
i haven't felt this amount of excitement for a squad to push for potential promotion if it's this season since 2014 when we went on that unbeaten run up to swindon, the raw talent and ability of the players is unmatched, we can only look forward, we have to get the bad results out of the way early on rather than mid way through the season and potentially be a point or 2 shy of AP/P-O We're playing against some of the strongest sides in the championship and somehow coming out without a battering, burnley last season or the season before at home comes to mind where we coulda been down a lot if it isnt our day. we know our strengths within the squad we just need to ultiize them, the japanese fella we signed (cant remember his name) is quick when it comes to decisions for playing after seeing him in action in the olympics before he was injured
As a Bristol city fan I agree with this video. And also that match last week was very good!
Always believe said Basso. I’ve been believing for 48 years. I have 3 highlights, Man Utd at home, Mansfield Away and Hull play off final…. Maybe the freight rover trophy win as well
I started watching City mid 70's too. Two definite highlights for me that you didn't mention would be the classic Coventry away match and the cup win at Anfield.
@@Shinerfox666 ah yes Tinnion at Anfield. That’s on the wall inside the stadium….,, I didn’t go to that but you’re right . An away win at Anfield
I live down the road from Ashton Gate. I’m a United fan so won’t pretend to be live and breathe City but watch them often and Ashton Gate is a fantastic stadium in the Championship. Really would like to see them get promoted. They deserve it
Great video thanks
Decent video 👍🏻
UTC ⚪️🔴
Great video come on city
I'll be there a week Saturday at home to Coventry. Let's see if they can contain Haji Wright
Definitely an improved squad from last season. It’s going to take time to build a winning side, however. I think Coventry will be too strong on Saturday if they bring their A game.
As a cov fan I have no idea why we got DaSilva off them even though it was free, I dread when he is on the pitch. The guy is a clown in the training ground and a nightmare in defence.
I hated losing him. Took me a few games to watch him elsewhere to realise what a let off it was 🤣
@@Josht-tl8rt He is 2nd choice at the moment thank god. He was responsible for quite a few goals last season from not doing his job and 9 times out of 10 he will not take on a player, he will pass it backwards (sometimes into trouble).
Yu Hirakawa to come in too
I believe this is our year to go up COYR🔴⚪️
All 3 of those players were good for us
I'm a Bristol City fan and I think we've got a good chance this season at least getting to the playoffs if not the top two in Liam Manning I trust 😊😊😊
Adam Webster sold for 23M and Lloyd Kelly for 15M before the other young players sold, so books got balanced. Johnson was in the end a disaster as was Holden. Now recruitment is way better and lessons learned - we hope
Once we was in battle for playoffs when we finished 8th and was in top two till Christmas the year before that 😊but yeah boring football since then. We was in a relegation battle once as well since the promotion in 2015
This is the year. We are going up 🔴⚪️
Bristol city team I support
We will start strong then we will die off around Christmas and struggle for form leading to the end of the season this is normally due to key injuries COYR
Should be a few goals on Saturday against my Sky Blues.
After 2 games your Brazil 😂 love it
Perhaps Bristol City should get relegated to League One and Bristol Rovers to get promoted to the Championship.
you made me feel better about Jey Desilva, I forgot we got him on a free, thats about right as he will leave us on the same I bet. Soo short for a defender, He should be a winger.
Jay*
Good player is Jay, really tidy feet, but sadly his height is his weakness. Really rated him at BCFC
You missed out Yu
I’m gonna be honest guys I much preferred it when you hated us
Bristol sport still a very quiet club .
Leeds are now
Leeds are now what? below us! lol
Leeds are now still 💩
@@OrionsWarriorUK lol for a couple of games maybe but they will batter Wednesday and that will kick start their season. Leeds will go up for sure.
You reds
We are going up the mighty Bristol city COYR this is the year 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️
