The "send you back to level 5 if you don't have the shield" thing is in fact true. I tested it just for fun... good thing I'd already beaten the game or else I probably would've smashed it.
2:20 Greatest opening to an NES game. Two lovers who have just finished having sex in a cemetery are encountered by Satan who kidnaps the woman because he wants some of that too.
9:10 Devil and Satan, is a same thing, only in some contexts and cultures, but not in them all. Wikipedia:"The history of this concept intertwines with theology, mythology, psychiatry, art and literature, maintaining a validity, and developing independently within each of the traditions. It occurs historically in many contexts and cultures, and is given many different names-Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub, Mephistopheles, Iblis-and attributes:" (Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil )
Hilarious thing is that out of some sick sense of tradition, even the sequels on SNES and Genesis required you to finish the game twice instead of just having more levels in order to see the true ending.
Yeeeah, I can't even beat the first 3 levels, the Nerd is very skilled, like wow. I know I'll never beat this game in my lifetime and I won't even bother trying, haha. Nice reaction.
I've made it to level 6 so far on my NES Classic Edition only using save states at checkpoints, and the Nerd is right, this game is harder than fossilized triceratops turds.
Ghosts 'n Goblins is a run and gun platformer video game series created by Tokuro Fujiwara and developed by Capcom. The first entry in the series was Ghosts 'n Goblins, released as an arcade title on September 19, 1985. The series has subsequently been released on and ported to a variety of game consoles and mobile platforms and spawned several sequels and spin-offs. The main series contains seven games: Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Makaimura for WonderSwan, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ghosts 'n Goblins: Gold Knights, and Ghosts 'n Goblins: Gold Knights II. The series focuses on the knight Arthur's quest to save princess Prin-Prin from the demon king Astaroth. The primary spin-offs include the Gargoyle's Quest and Maximo game series. The series as a whole has sold over 4.4 million units and stands as the 8th best-selling Capcom game franchise.
TBH, I didn’t knew this was one the NES and when I played it on the NES app on the Switch, it’s good, but the motion in the gameplay kinda throws me off since I grew up playing the arcade version on PS2. Anyway, played this countless times on the MAME, but oh my fuck, the 3rd stage with the firebrands (red devils) is just pure torture. I can’t imagine spending 25 cents countless times on not having to reach far enough to the final stage. However, the only Ghost n Goblins I beat was Super Ghouls n Ghosts on the SNES mini, I thought I would be fucked endlessly by the final boss, but he became easy with his laser patterns.
You know 1 time i was playing Super Ghouls N Ghosts i had to beat the game twice to get to the final boss It was a hard game for me but fun and timeless.
I have that game. :) Yeah, it sure is hard and when I was younger I couldn't almost get to the second level. Yesterday I decided to hook up the NES and play some games and I managed to get to the third level for the first time. :) And yeah, those small devils/imps are pretty hard/unfair. I think a strategy would be to hit it twice when they're sitting if you're quick enough with the knife and then do some backwards jumping and stuff while throwing to get the last two hit points off.
nope, not playing it twice in a row. once I finish stage 6 I'm done it's sequel ghouls n ghosts is the same (having to beat twice) but the soundtrack I think is better I'd ignore the spelling errors when critiquing the ending, Capcom IS a japanese company also you think GNG splitting satan and devil into 2 different enemies? you should see persona, it splits his 3 names Lucifer Satan and Beezelbub into 3 different masks
Not really. Some things were changed, like the way the dropped items work, enemy placement is a little different, and I've seen people say that the arcade is more enjoyable, probably because there aren't so many freaking random wood ghosts and bats and imps and petit devils flying around. Edit: oh, and the bosses immunity to certain weapons is nes only as well.
You want to know something else? Apparently, the North American and European versions were made slightly easier by giving them unlimited continues. The Japanese Famicom version DOES NOT! Supposedly you can still continue, but you have to put in a tedious code on the main menu in order to do so, which means the Japanese version is even more sadistic.
I see you have stumbled upon my old videos, the video was my first month on making youtube reaction videos, I was still learning the ropes, I was always afraid to talk, speak my mind, over time, I became more confident, Started talking more, speaking my thoughts, as you will see in my latest videos, as 4 months have passed, I like to keep these videos as a reminder, never to go back, to continue to evolve, and don't make the same mistakes in the future, ^_^
To my recollection, I've only made it as far as level 3, anyone who's played this game can say this beyond a shadow of a dought, this game was a quarter sucker, plain and simple. It's avalable on the switch if you want proof.
The NES version of Ghosts 'n Goblins was re-released on Nintendo Switch Online upon launch, while an SP version titled Ghosts 'n Goblins: The Great Demon Lord Awaits was added to the service on December 13, 2018.

now try this on an arcade machine where you must pay a quarter per death.

It's got to be some form of sick twisted joke, 😐
@@MynameisCharlie you should react to Johnny vs. Ghosts ‘N Goblins and Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts.
But in the sequels, you actually fight a real final boss not the same one as the first loop
I remember playing this.....it's a good game but frustrating as hell, the sequels are definitely superior and less brutal
I'd love to give this game a pop, guess you don't know what you're made of until you've played this game, 😊👍
"Who wanna play Ghostses and goblins?" Goddamn kid AVGN why're you so darn cute? xD
Capcom loves easter eggs and pranking gamers with this game. lol
Yeah, they sure do, 😂

playing hard and bad video games are sort of a guilty pleasure for me, but this game would drive me over the edge. 😂
I've been playing this on the NES Classic and it's hard as shit lol I still haven't beat it though
I've made it to level 6 so far on my NES Classic Edition only using save states at checkpoints, and the Nerd is right, this game is harder than fossilized triceratops turds.
I am literally stuck on the 6th level on the second run. The 2nd level was already a brick wall for me, but this level is a f*cking granite wall!
11:25 oh nooo

ATOMIC F BOMB TO END IT ALL!!!!!!
A great way to end the video. 😁👍

I think that he took a shit.
GET THE KNIFE!
I'm guessing the reason the shield doesn't hurt the "unicorns" is because the cross means it's a holy weapon, and thus only kills undead and demons.
What about the javelin not killing the dragon, or the axe not killing the satans?
@@Mike14264 I've got nothing for that, lol. I guess the developers just decided to screw with people.
This NES game ate my lunch for weeks in the late 80's. I still haven't recovered. Seriously though, big nostalgia factor here, love me some G&G.
Did you know that the shield weapon was a cross in the Japanese version ? I guess they changed it because it was too religious !
and Satan and the devil is not? oh the chaos of logic
I just played the arcade version of Ghosts 'n Goblins today. Needless to say, it's pretty hard as you would expect.
One of, if not, my FAVORITE AVGN episode

Everything in this version of this game is all the same in the arcade.
God, not much room for improvement then, 😂
jtomally9681 Except the frame motions, which kinda makes me uncomfortable to play on NES app on the Switch.
Well, yeah. I wasn't very clear about that.
jtomally9681 No worries. I see it. Just being a helping hand and pointing missing things out. 👍
