Cycling Around Sri Lanka in 13 Days - 4K

- I cycled around Sri Lanka for over 1400 KM together with my buddies Amila, Chamindu and Malindu in 13 days. We did this to explore the country and to share our adventure, and to give our fair share of support to boost the tourism industry of Sri Lanka. Our aim is to encourage travellers in and out of Sri Lanka to realize that Sri Lanka is safe and secure to visit, and that there is so much to explore in this beautiful island.
We also joined hands with the fundraiser campaign Ride For Apeksha, to help Apeksha Cancer Hospital in Sri Lanka. This project is organized by the Australian Committee of the Old Boys Association of the D.S Senanayake College, Colombo and "PRCC (Paradise Road Cycling Club)" in partnership with Rotary and Red Cross Sri Lanka. The donations raised from that will enable to save lives by improving conditions for the many cancer patients by obtaining urgent medical supplies for the Apeksha Cancer Hospital. We were fortunate to have the support from our accommodation partners Jetwing Jaffna, Koragaha Lodge - Yala, Oceanfront Condominiums, Kunandura Villa and they were a huge part of the success of our journey.

I watch a lot of cycling films from all over the world, both on Amazon and TH-cam. This is, by far, some of the best story telling I've ever seen. Your use of drone footage to help tell the story and provide prospective on the beauty of moving through the landscape is just phenomenal. You're a very talented film maker!
My friend, Dimuthu, who I work with there in Columbo sent me the video as he would like for me to come visit some day and ride in Sri Lanka. I'd love to follow your same route, not sure I'd want to tangle with the elephants though!

Same here 54, I doubt I could do 170km a day.. max 60km a day. I want to ride from Galle to Jaffna, 1 way, may be in 2-3 weeks, but logistics and planning is the issues. have fun, should you visit Sri Lanka.

Hi Anton, with a little bit of practice it isn't so hard in my opinion. I myself am not a cyclist, I trained for this for around a month only by cycling around 25-30 KM for 2-3 days a week, and did a couple of long-distance rides (80 KM) and I would advise you to ride a road bike to make it fun and easier. Also, check the weather beforehand and avoid headwind, and start early in the morning. I'm sure you will make it.

Indeed..Biking through its scenic landscapes offers a unique way to explore the country. While some areas do have traffic, especially in Colombo area, many rural roads are peaceful and perfect for cycling. It's great to hear this video inspired you. Safe travels and enjoy your adventure!

I was looking up videos about cycling in Sri Lanka and I found this one. This is amazing and like others said below, beautiful footage and images. I am a road cyclist and I did log distance tours in the past, but logistics was handled by a group that did the hotels and carried our stuff to the pre-scheduled stop points. For you, you did all of that yourself which is amazing. If you are there next year, I would like to do one long ride in Sri Lanka.

Thanks guys for releasing such vedio.This is the beauty of Srilanka , We used to ride the bicycle to Anuradhapura from Gampaha on Poson season in our child hood with our friends though we had lumala sport bicycles and Hero bicycles . This video has accelerated my thoughts to have a such experience in my next vacation . Buththala road sciences are stunning . I would like to remember a friend call Patcha who had great skills of repair the tire punches as also repair kit even in 2005 (Patcha is passed away while he was working in ARMY at Jaffna :( . )

I rode from Colombo to Jaffna in 2019 as part of R4C Charity ride. The best thing we did was to start very early like 4AM to beat the heat each day. Amazing video mate, such a high quality production. Enjoyed every bit of it!

Hmmmm... that's quite a laborious ride! You guys must have been pretty good with bike riding otherwise your legs would've killed you within the first 100km. The aerial scenes were top class. I would imagine the drone pilot was a pretty experienced one to fly it from the ground on that height. Well done and thank you for the upload. This is a pretty well directed and edited video.
Hey, thanks so much for the kind words! We aren’t really that good with bikes to be honest, it’s been just around a month since I had started cycling before this trip. But we did train for this by cycling for around 20-30 KM for like 3-4 days a week and had two long rides. Another tip is to get a road bike instead of a mountain bike so it becomes so much easier to ride long distances. And then stretch before and after riding. If you do those riding 100 KM becomes so much easier than we think 😃
@@pradeepgamage Yes, of course Pradeep. The right bike and a better quality lighter bike makes the difference. My legs give up in the 100km mark because I either ride my old school heavy metal road bike or my preferred mountain bike(rarely any flat tyres with them).
I guess the most important factor is the youth, which you guys have plenty of. 😁
You guys have inspired me.I always wanted to do this kind of trek, at least on a motorbike, but the road accident madness anxiety has been keeping me from doing it. You guys destroyed my irrational anxiety. 😄 Now I've got no excuse, other than my untrained legs. 😉
