    So refreshing to listen to a professional with real knowledge and experience that actually uses the equipment. Thank you!

    Thanks for sharing your experience and very practical info. This gives me something I can Implement. Miles above all these special-boy youtubers who are obsessed with themselves.

    A very well-narrated and breakdown of the light as well as the neat little application! Great work! Cheers Jimmy

      Thanks, my second one arrived yesterday.
      I used these thus week to backlight the water coming off a mop head being cleaned. I had about five people in the crew tell me the light in the bucket is going to get wet!
      If you guys have anything new to review send it through.

    Thank you for making this, most useful and thorough review I've seen on this light.

    Great note on the rubber diffusion. Almost every other review says it'll create a softer light haha

    After seeing your review I saw one on sale on Amazon and ordered it. Unfortunately, it would not turn on. After emailing Aputure, it was suggested that I mail it in and I was given an RMA (return authorization) number. I was told that as soon as I provided the tracking number, a new one would be put in the mail for me. As soon as I provided the tracking number, Aputure quit responding to emails. My defective unit was received at their headquarters in California, but it was not repaired nor replaced. They just kept my unit. It's quite bizarre, nearly unbelievable! As an influencer, I'm sure you get excellent service, however, living in the USA it makes me hesitant to add any more Aputure/Amaran lights to my Amaran 200X knowing the unit may be stolen from me if I ever send it in for service.

    Thanks for such a great indepth review. So refreshing to see a perspective from a professional gaffer. I had a few doubts going into this light based on some other reviews on TH-cam - like you said, many others have made this light sound like it's the end all and be all of small bright lights. Keep up the great videos!

    Just discovered you channel tonight and I was impressed by the review. Great to here it from a pros pro. Just bought mine earlier tonight for 109 a BH Photo blow out. Going to keep and also love that other one you showed. The AML 9. Is there something from 2023 you could recommend? I'm sure you can't answer all questions but tonight I am shooting a rack of southern pride ribs on a grill at a restaurant over some flames. Video.. Just wondering what gel you would use. I'm kind of new to lighting and have my 101's down but that all. Looking forward to any tip or tips you might have. It' is for a local TV commercial. Thank You.

    Sub'd based on this video. Goes way beyond the marketing repeats most channels provide. Thanks!

    Thanks for the VERY comprehensive review! So much great info, and I appreciate the additional steps you took to test the light with USB power. Glad it didn't damage the light.
    Regarding the CTO filter, does the R9 value of 76 concern you? I'm guessing this could effect skin detail, or is that more in the range of the R13 and R15 spectrums? I'm not clear, so any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Most of my lights are daylight, but I do run into situations where I need to accommodate tungsten lighting and curious about the effect of CTO filtering.

    Very good review, again! Thank you and keep up the good work!
    I have a question for you. Do you think the Nanguang CN-P100 is a good light with the CN-18X
    attachment? I need a Fresnel light but I dont have money for an Aputure 120D. This Nanguang light seems to be decent for its price.

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not had any problems with Nanguang in terms of light quality. But I have never used that fixture so I can't give an honest opinion.

    Hello, Gaffer & Gear, would a couple of these suffice for a small bedroom youtube studio with diffusion? I realise it comes with some in-box diffusion options, but are options to use it with an softbox for better diffusion?

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If that's all you intend using it for I would go with another option. Aputure and Nanlite both make some panel light that are very good.
      You would probably be better off with an AC light so you don't have to deal with charging battery charging issues

      @@gaffergear Thanks for the prompt response. Not sure if you had any specific models in mind, I was looking at the HR 672S before which is around $416 from VideoGuys or maybe the Tri8 model which can both use a diffuser. Are they are worthwhile investment?

    Spectacular reviews! Question: what are those sticky pads? And where do I get some :)

    • @gaffergear

      E-bay. Buy the more expensive $3 ones.
      They are for sticking mobile phones to dash boards

      I wrote to Aputure and they said the MW was quite a bit brighter than the F7. I was super confused, since their website says the following. Am I reading it wrong, or isn't the AL-F7 brighter than the MW?
      AL-F7
      Distance / Lux: .3m / >= 14000 lux; .5m / >= 5500 lux; 1m / >= 1500 lux; 2m / >= 400 lux; 3m / >= 180 lux

      AL-MW
      Distance / Lux: .3m / 4000 lux; .5m / 1300 lux; 1m / 300 lux
