Why You Should Switch Your Classic Car's Thermostat!

  • Wanna help keep your classic car's engine cool? Well, you should consider switching your thermostat to a hi-flow EMP Stewart unit. Is it a magic bullet? No. But what it will do, is help you more effectively troubleshoot your car's cooling system, because with this made in USA part you will be removing a variable.
Compared to junk common thermostats made in China with awful quality control, these hi-flow units open at their advertised temperature.

My daily driver is a 1990 V8, I switch thermostats in the fall and spring. If I dont switch temperature ratings, it runs too hot in the summer, or too cold in the winter. Yes, I have a larger new radiator, and a good pump. 3 weeks ago I drove in +5 weather, and this summer I will be in 102 weather with the A/C on. I've had the same issue with other engines that were of the same architecture, but from 1963. My point is this: cheap thermostats vary all over the place on temperature, and I can see it on my autometer mechanical gages. The robert shaw thermostats are consistent. Its money well spent.

My 62 is similar. It has a 160 in it (which is too cold for that car but I had it laying around) and if I drive it in the Indiana cooler months I have a hard time even getting it to the thermostat temp.

I completely agree. How many of the crappy ones have you pulled out, and they have overextended and are cocked sideways (the innards, not the entire thing)....

I’ve seen it all. I should have posted up an image of this bellows style thermostat I got out of a flathead. Never seen one like it.
But I haven’t had a single issue out of those Richard Shaw type high flow units.

@@CatfishMotorsports I used a 157° bellows in my 43 Willys MB up until about two months ago when I switched to a 160° high flow from FlowKooler.

Swith or Switch thermostats? Thumbnail misspell! I hope you wanted the comments, otherwise bad form! I will combine with a dislike to offset.

Dude, your thumbnail. You spelled "switch" wrong. That is all I am saying. Some people create issues to cause people like me to react to spelling errors. That is all. regardless, you got two additional comments to a video I would not normally watch. @@CatfishMotorsports

It looks right to me
FWIW I can say with complete honesty I would never make a misspelling for comments if that makes you feel better.
