    Not only age discrimination , but reverse discrimination in Race or Gender is a big factor, you that have been there or are told who to hire and promote know I mean. Lets end all discrimination, despite, age, race, gender, Veteran Status Etc...

    Here are some things you can do: 1) learn Spanish and speak it well, 2) register with at least ten temp staffing agencies, 3) accept temp work if you cannot find a regular job, 4) write a book to sell to a publisher, 5) get every government benefit you can, i.e. rent vouchers, eneregy assistance, food stamps, food pantries, Medicaid, Medicare, bus pass and Obama phone, 6) dye your hair, 7) men, let your hair grow a little longer to look younger, 8) men, be clean shaven to look younger, 9) shed excess poundage to look younger, 10) take computer courses, 11) sell yourself as a free lance by contract, 12) customize your resume, 13) go back on your resume no more than 15 years, 14) always include a cover letter.

    Age 51 here. This video had several nice simple but not too simple tips. Know what I mean? I'm not an ancient 50 plus person in mindset but I am born 1963 and these are good starter tips/ reminders. Worded pleasantly. Depression and feeling unwanted is a factor for me. This video gave me ideas. Ideas are hope

      I know this is an old comment, pardon the pun. But did you manage to find anything job wise, I am going through the same thing.

      Amy, I don't mean to sound harsh but any 51 year old healthy person should be able to find a job in the US. Maybe not exactly what you want but something to keep your mind occupied and a little pocket money coming in. Depression and feeling unwanted are easy things to get past. STAY BUSY. Walk 5-6 miles/day or bicycle 02-30 miles.. At 51 I was still riding bicycles 100-150 miles/week. Read. Go to a temp agency and take a low skill job. There are many options for you other than sitting around feeling unwanted and being depressed.
      Hint: Most people (even friends) don't really want a lot of unhappy, depressed people in their lives. Sitting around with people talking about how much your calf hurt after yesterday's ride is a lot more interesting than talking about how depressed you feel.

      Had to find a job! Had siblings to role model for. So each time, there again, was that re-inventing thing for me. Seems all my jobs cycled. I learned plenty too. That is at 51 I attended the CA. State School to lead the way for my one boy. I had realized early on that the great expensive educational system would do very little to help my siblings go out into the world. In my case I was motivated by all that. Just commenting.

      I'll soon be 52. I was married 22 yrs & a sahm nearly 20 yrs. I've been on my own nearly 6 yrs & finding work has been vicious!
      I finally found full time work, pay is low & it's VERY physical. (I'm keeping up with 20- 22 yr old men) I now have insurance & can survive on what I bring home. I've been there almost a year now.
      I know there's going to be a lot of teeth grinding & internal pep talks ahead of me, but I dare not let this job go!

    Lots of job seekers are answering ads they are not qualified for. I have been a recruiter for decades; unqualified people are answering my ads even though all my ads say you must have certain skills, there is no training. This is wasting your time and you can stay out of work longer.Jane Roth Recruiter, NYC

      Agree--was just interviewed by a woman who said she got 350 applications for the job and that most of the people weren't remotely qualified. I've begun picking two or three best potential jobs per week and tailoring my resume for each.

    I find it a reasonable quest to give back to society while simultaneously earning a handsome salary. There is no incongruity there. If I can earn my way into an honor society in college while boosting my skills- I can do this.

    Why would I need to learn Spanish when I live in England? There is no call for it here.

    • @RatedArggg
      @RatedArggg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +adrian whiteley In the U.S. it's quite helpful to know Spanish, especially in the Southern states. In England maybe you should learn French? Irish? Urdu?
