Bro this video for me is so refreshing, as someone who has set aside my passion for guitar playing bc of life responsibilities and sold most of my gears, This really takes me back to the basics. Its been like 5 years since I played and I felt like I lost all that I have learned back then. Praying that I get to play again in our local church here in the PH. Thank you for this video
This is really helpful, considering that most of the time, church musicians are volunteer based and don't have money to spend on expensive gear, but are "forced to" to get the tone they're hearing because this is what so and so uses. EDIT: I've also changed my philosphy in gear. "Less is more" really does apply in the congregational singing context and asking the question "what am I trying to achieve?" comes first. I've gotten it down to compressor, OD1, OD2, delay, and reverb. That's it. Compressor is always on, OD1 (Blues Breaker type) is always on, OD2 (klon type) during leads and big choruses, delay depends on the song, and reverb is always on (mix is set to low at around 9 o'clock but decay is set to high at around 3 o'clock).
The church I go to requires everyone to own an acoustic guitar/ a solid body guitar/ a pedalboard with a minimum of 5 pedals and a tube amp costing no less than $2000.00 if you can play or not. Don't be fooled thinking church musicians or anyone who goes to church can't afford top dollar gear.
@@BryanClark-gk6ie That requirement sounds fake. Why 5 pedals? Why a solid body guitar? A tube amp costing no less than $2000? That's arbitrary and ridiculous as a 65 Fender Twin Reverb doesn't even cost $2000. Professional P&W guitarists often use something like a Quad Cortex which is only $1700 and can be an all in one.

Hey Jemmuel! Just wanted to say that I love how you patiently explained your thought process when shaping your guitar tone. I couldn't afford the HX stomp so I went for a Mooer micro preamp with cabsim for $140. It's great as long as you know what amp sound you like because you only have one amp profile, mine is a JTM 45 for my overdrive I tried almost everything but settled on an R-fuzz set to low gain

gotta say though, this rig is very tele-friendly. With a strat, I can't just run through 2 drive pedals. I use a mid/ treble boost just to get a quicker attack from my pickups which aren't exactly high output. The med-high output in pickups are very important for that juicy crunch tone as well as touch sensitive dynamics esp in digital amp modelling.

The problem I seem to run into is at home my sound is great and no noise from the amp but once I use it in church i get a lot of hum in the amp. I use the Boss Kitana and no pedals but the sounds that come with the Kitana.
I assume you’re using a pedal board right? I’d recommend making sure your amp and board are plugged into the same circuit at the church (for ease just make sure they are plugged into the same power strip/outlet) Otherwise I’d be curious if other amps produce the same noise when plugged into the same source at the church. It’s possible that the power is also a bit sketchy…if they/you have a power conditioner you could also plug into that.
I really appreciate the tips!! But, I'll just ask, how do you setup the HX Stomp as an amp modeller? I want my rig to be plugged and played to any speakers or amps. God Bless brother!!
The tone are in the hand lol. But cutting thru the mix. Is it the Front of house job to get you to cut through or it supposedly you that have to eq your gear?
Starts from the source: You. Work on your tone by working on the tone in your hands, your guitar and amp first. Gear and FOH guy isnt always the most greatest excuse for why you dont cut through the mix.
"cutting through the mix" is kinda one of those silly terms that doesn't really mean anything specific. Sure you could just add more presence, but that doesn't always work. First and foremost you want the tone to sound good, and you want your playing to be less messy. That way the FOH engineer will naturally want to turn you up, and then when you hit that perfect note it will be more effective. The other thing is you want to avoid clashing with other instruments. The Bass is doing the lows, so you don't need to. The piano is doing the low mids, so you don't need to. Guitar fits best in the mids somewhere.
@@NedJeffery Sounded kind of contradicting. Doesn't mean anything but at the sametime no low or low mid?? hmm. shouldn't mean something a little too then? might as well go max on the low since it doesn't mean anything???

I dont know why many churches especially Modern Churches, Mega Churches and Pentecostal Churches still play Pop-Rock Genre Praise and Worship songs from Hillsong or Hillsong United and etc. It just does not make any sense since many of us know that these type of music genre does not fit for worship because it does not conform to the worship music that will lead to the Holiness of God. In short, the kind of music is a Worldly music. The music is not formal and does not have the reverence to the presence of God. It seems that many Christians nowadays tend to compromise in selecting worship music even Christian Music Composers and Christian Music Artists tend to compromise and make their music composition blend with the worldly music so that it will be "Hip" or Fit the new generation. Thus they do these so their music genre will be accepted by the new generation culture and they earn fame and money. The reason why the Church must sing SOLEMN song is because for the utmost Reverence on the presence of God.
Bruhhh I bet you don't read bible about on how should we praise God
@@JCJandayan I bet if you are that good in the bible, write all the verses here in the comment section. Write all the verses here that will support your argument. And by the way, we are not of the same denomination so dont call me bro.
@@biboyumandar1538sir what is wrong with you
Dude, way to much talking for half the video youre saying the same things in different ways! At least 3 times over. Nobody wanting to view a video on tone creation wants to hear incessant jabber…take a lesson from Paul of the studio rats!!! Straight and to the point!
Dude shut up, go and make a video better than me with your comment if you’re complaining so much
Church tones? 😂
Spiritually mature Christians must know what is the difference of the Worship music and Worldly music. Very Sadly, Many Christians already compromised in choosing the correct Worship music.
🤦🤦🤦
I will comment again ok? My big point is that Churches must sing SOLEMN songs and NOT Mainstream type songs like Hillsong or Hillsong United or any type of Pop-Rock Worldly Music must NOT BE ALLOWED in the Church. The reason why the Church must sing SOLEMN song is because for the utmost Reverence on the presence of God.
Back your point up with scripture
Then the book of psalm is a lie?
@@Quero_media if you're talking to me, provide scripture that supports this point.
"Church must sing solemn songs and not mainstream type songs"
you can think what you want, doesn’t mean anyone else will take it. people can worship how they feel, no need to be a hard liner about it
@@tallyphillips But here is the big point: Many Pentecostal churches fail why because they are too EMOTION FILLED in praise in worship and too bland or too weak in the WORD or the Pastor's Preaching. What i meant is the Pastor's preaching is too bland that is why many church members in pentecostal churches are not too founded in the Word of God but just too EMOTION FILLED during praise and worship. THAT IS NOT A BALANCED CHURCH.
