UK EAS - Malta leaves the United Kingdom

  • WARNING: This is not real footage. As stated in the title, it's an EAS Scenario. EAS Scenarios are only a simulation of what could hypothetically be broadcast if an event were to happen. I denying that this is real BBC footage in any way shape or form.
In the late 1950s there were talks, and even a refendum held in Malta over Maltese Integration into the United Kingdom. It never came to fruition. But what if Malta actually joined, but then decided to leave?

Apologies for my voice acting skills, but I couldn't find a person who was willing to record it for free, and using an AI voice sounded too weird for a News Broadcast
BBC Mediterranean is a fictional name for regional Maltese News. Similar to BBC Look North and BBC Wales Today

How did you make the BBC overlay? Very well done!

It was done using Adobe After Effects, with BBC Fonts used (Sans and Serif), and watching the BBC News Channel on multiple different days to recrrate the graphics aa best to my abilities. Thanks a lot for the comment, really appreciated!

@@george4eas cheers :) also, just one minor thing, a more realistic URL for Malta in this timeline would be bbc.co.uk/mt or bbc.co.uk/malta

I missed some Maltese language in the video, since I assume it would be co-official with English like in our timeline. But very good editing. You won a new suscriber!
I hope to go back to your wonderful country some day!

Thanks a lot for your kind words! I used just English for 2 main reasons.
The main reason is that most of my audience is from the UK/US, and I barely have any Maltese viewers, meaning I only use the Maltese language when it's a bilingual scenario. The far-fetched reason is that it could be assumed that in this alternate timeline, the language question (debate whether Italian or English should be the second language) went a bit too far, and once Malta became British they supressed the Maltese language as much as they can (even though this story is a bit far fetched)

Note - the bbc would just do continuing coverage and not have the main headline music nor a countdown. also there is no BBC Mediterranean and would just be BBC News.

Please do some research on the difference between the United Kingdom and a crown colony.

    • @george4eas
      @george4eas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

As stated in the begining of the video, it is exploring an alternative timeline in which Malta actually joined the UK. Negotiations were ongoing in the 1950s and Malta was the only crown colony ever considered to join the UK.

    • @danielthompson4463

@@george4eas it was a protectorate and a crown colony. It was never part of the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom comprises England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

As I already said, I know Malta is not a part of the United Kingdom, however this video explores an alternative timeline when it joined the UK. As a Maltese person myself I think I know whether my country is independent or not

@@george4eas “2. Admittedly the constitutional and other problems involved by the Channel Islands and Isle of Man are very different from those with which the Home Secretary would be faced were he to become responsible for Malta; nor is the Northern Ireland parallel at all exact, as the Maltese Government itself admits. The fact remains, however that Her Majesty’s Government stated publicly in 1953 that they were prepared to transfer the responsibility for Maltese affairs to the Home Secretary, and this offer has not been withdrawn. Moreover, when the ‘Home Office offer’ was originally made there was no specific reference to any analogy between Malta and the other integral parts of the United Kingdom for which the Home Secretary is responsible. Indeed, the words in which the offer was made emphasized the unique character of Malta and argued that the transfer to the Home Secretary, as responsible Minister, would stand as the most signal recognition of that unique character.”
