Eh,I think most British people realise their country has declined, the French on the other hand, don't seem to realise how irrelevant they are. Saying that though, most European countries are pretty meh nowadays. The French are deluded, the Germans are in hiding and migration is destroying the continent. Europe as a whole is a giant, shitty laughing stock. From the top of the world to America's bitch, most EU countries are cheap as hell too and rely on others for their defence. One big continent of of pathetic countries.

Funnily enough this exact situation practically happened in the 1600s. King Charles I tried to dismantle Parliament, and it led to his a/ getting kicked when Parliament took control of the army, the monarchy being abolished and Britain becoming a Republic for a few decades (Yes, this did happen, search up the English Civil War)

@@sheepbow909 Ireland is in the EU, which has a Mutual Defence Claus (Article 7). So Britain wouldn't really be able to go after anyone.
Anyways, its a completely inprobable situation. Britain would be completely cut off from trade with the EU and US which would practically annihilate its economy. As a Brit myself, although I'd like to wallow in the nationalism, I know the fact that really Britain's navy can not even function without American involvement and the Army is around 80,000 men. Britain is too weak of a country really to do anything.

This was proposed in the Canadian TV-movie "H2O", though the fictional PM's price for a continental union was that former-Canada would keep the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its own Supreme Court. His argument for this to the US president was (and I paraphrase), "we may watch the same television but we are not the same as you culturally."
Anyway, in the event shown above I'm pretty sure the US would assert that the Monroe Doctrine was still in play....

Britain hasn’t had a absolute monarchy since the signing of the Magna Carta, Britain has been under a form of democracy for nearly an entire millennia.
A lot of monarchist supporters seem to also not have much historical knowledge. Life for the average Brit only became tolerable in the last century following the signing of the 1950s Balfour Declaration, before then it was absolute shit and something you wouldn’t be able to handle. Unless you do like working 6 days a week 12 hour days just to live in some damp tiny house and maybe be able to afford enough for bread.
Very easy to criticise the modern world and democracy when you live in it lmao. It’s odd that most people who wish for a return of Empire also happen to be sad lonely people who will blame their loneliness on society rather than themselves.

That being said, it's not as though Canada (aside from a few elders having high tea at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC), India, Ireland and New Zealand (to name a few) are going to just hand their sovereignty over, not even if Charles III promptly abdicated for his son that magazines can't stop gushing over. Heck we only got our Constitution formally handed over to our own keeping in 1982....

@@Bagofnowt by having the person born into the right place at the right time be your ruler, you are essentially just leaving their quality to chance and by having them be raised by the previous rulers, the most stable the ruling style, the longer that style will perpetuate by intergenerational education from King to heir.
By picking your ruler based on popularity, you are not picking by quality or even by quality of ideas but by the Machiavellian ability to manipulate the discontent, hatred, or desperation of the broadly less educated and needy.
Many monarchs were manipulators and fiends, but ALL elected leaders have been manipulators and fiends.
Plus when a democratic leader fails, we wait out their term(s) and expect things to get better but they never do. However when a monarch fails, their people kill them and don't let the heir take the throne (except in rare cases where the king and heir were actually opponents).
Good leaders ought to stay in power until they die, bad leaders ought to hanged, not given a pension. I far more trust the intentions of someone who didn't choose to be the ruler but took on the responsibility anyway, than someone who's spent decades conning their way up the ladder and now has finally achieved their power fantasy.
I repeat: Good leaders ought to stay in power until they die, bad leaders ought to hanged, not given a pension.
