  • Finally, Riga has started upgrading their tram system and bringing it to the standards we are familiar with today. The sections between Ausekļa iela and Nacionālā opera, as well as the section between Iļģuciems and Baldones iela have been upgraded. Tram stops now offer level-boarding, making the low-floor trams (Škoda 15T) accessible for people with disabilities. Line 7 to Ķengarags is also undergoing a similar overhaul. Besides adjusting platforms and renewal of the tracks, overhead wires also have to be adapted for the use of pantographs, as the older Tatra T3A and Tatra T3MR are equipped with trolley poles.
