astronomy domine Well said. Anytime I see his older speeches or just older videos of him casually taking you can see a vast difference in his speech and thinking. Everyone has moments where they slur or lose track of what they’re talking about, but Biden is pretty much in a constant state of that. There’s no comparison to his older self and for the people pointing out Trump or other ppl get confused too, they’re not even close to Biden. He’s a space cadet and he’s not coming back to earth anytime soon.

Yeah, no... Over here in Europe we're actually running out of space to put the dead bodies. Turns out crematoriums can only burn a limited amount of corpses a day and you really can't speed it up that much and there's a limited supply of graveyards and undertakers. If the amount of people dying each day increases drastically for more than say a week or two you really do run into problems right fast in a hurry if, especially if it happens everywhere at the same time.

I remember after 9/11 people were saying counter-terrorism measures were not necessary because there were no other cases in North-America, not realizing it might precisely be because of those counter-terrorism measures that we had fewer cases.

the unemployment is much higher than reported and that's because people can't actually file for unemployment because the servers are down the phones are down because of the surge

    • @MFranklinstein-vw2tn
      @MFranklinstein-vw2tn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's always been higher than reported since working 1 hour in 1 month was a "job". Also, working two jobs IS why unemployment was lower, because: 1) working 1 hour in 1 month was a "job", 2) people who were on the cusp of working and making the same as unemployment, instead got a second job. That's how they keep the jobs reports adding and the unemployment numbers low.

Ive been a cruise ship musician for 13 years and I dont think we should bail out the cruise lines. They barely hire Americans. Id say 1% or less of all crews, even American owned cruise lines, employ Americans.
This bailout will affect mostly Filipinos (50%+ of every ships crew are all Filipinos), Indians and Indonesians.
Why would our taxpayers go to save people from other countries, while only helping the rich American cruise line owners? That's not how it should work, at all.
Ive worked for Celebrity (RCCL), Norwegian Cruise Line (Star), Crystal Cruises (NYK) Holland America Lines (Carnival), Cunard Lines (Carnival UK), and Seabourn (Carnival). I've been on 27 contracts throughout those cruise lines, on 12 different ships and I have never met more than 10 Americans on any given ship, ever. It's a big joke everyone knows about and doesn't do anything about because as with many things like Chinese imports, people blindly enjoy the price.

Base death rate and infection rate can be modified, usually expressed as the effective rate. The social distancing lowers the effective infection rate, drugs and available hospital beds, icu with ventilators lowers the death rate. If this had been treated like just the flu until 10's of millions were infected I think we would've regretted it, effective rates of both would've been high.

In Australia we have been practising social distancing and proper hygiene procedures, as well as cancelling large gatherings. School are still open, but it's up to the parents if they want to send them. We have 2800 confirmed cases and 13 deaths in a country a little bit smaller than half the size of Italy by population.

Ben, my father is the president of a business brokerage firm; that helps entrepreneurs buy and sell small businesses here in MN. Our governor just declared a stay-at-home order, including a shutdown of all bars, restaurants, etc., until May 10th. He decided yesterday and said he was unsure the day before. but; yesterday many of my fathers clients received a letter in the mail from Homeland Security addressing our governors shutdown. The letter was not dated. It seems very odd to my father and I and many of those small businesses owners as to whether or not this is a coordinated effort to completely drive out small businesses and entrepreneurship. It makes no sense to me, why they would set a date for May 10th, when they say that any date Trump “sets” is dangerous... It all just seems a bit off. I also did some research and nearly every single governor that has issued a stay at home order is a Democrat. Obviously they aren’t very small business friendly in the first place but this all seems like mass incompetence cheered on by a cynical agenda. Anyone with some thoughts on this please let me know. (Our governor also stated that they were happy we aren’t moving around too much, as they could see from tracking our cellphone movement...yikes).

Until the state figures out the actual costs to the businesses they forcibly closed are paid back every cent I don't think one check should be sent. Paying back the people they bent over will stimulate the economy just fine, no need for debate at any income level. I think everyone needs to look at this situation a little differently. The government just eminent domained thousands of businesses and many of their employees jobs and instead of getting reimbursed at a reasonable market rate for giving up their personal property, for the greater good, are instead offered some little tidbits here and there. Also now we get to watch welfare recipients and non-essential government employees get a nice bonus with basically our own money. This is a constitutional crisis and a HUGE CROCK OF SHIT.

Nationally, and in my rural state, the number of new cases is doubling about every 3-5 days. That's about %25 increase from one day to next. If that pace continues, the number of cases in my state exceeds my state's population in May. If it doubles every 8 days, we reach late July. If it doubles every 12 days, we get to end of September before we get full coverage. That's rough math and doesn't account for how the rate will naturally flatten near the peak. Most of our nation will probably have had this virus by late Summer.

Anyone else received an official "essential" hall pass yet?
I work at a grocery store and we got ours the other day.
It didn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside TBH.
It's just a piece of paper from the tie wearing idiots I work for to "law enforcement, government agencies, and the National Guard" to please let me go to work no matter what because we have "been identified as an essential retailer by the federal government as a provider of critical supplies."
(Apparently government agencies and the federal government don't know each other.)
    Translation to humanese:
If the guys with more guns than me don't want me to go to work, my happy ass won't be going to work. Might as well take that love note and donate it to the needy people who have anything less than 117 pallets of Angel Soft stockpiled in their homes because there is no way in hell that's enough for a family of 3 to survive this particular crisis while maintaining a clean ass.
