    I have a '15 2500 6.4, bought it new.
    Swapped the 3.73 gear to a 4.56 gear. On the highway empty it went from 19mpg down to about 17.5 at 75mph but towing our 10k pound 5th wheel the mileage went from 9 to almost 11mpg.
    This is the first gasser I've owned in over 20yrs and I don't regret buying it at all.

    I have a 14 ram 2500 outdoorsmen with the 6.4 and love it. And I wanted the gasser, i couldn't justify the diesel. Tow a 8,000 travel trailer a few times a year. I get 9-10 mpg towing, 13-14 around town. Can get over 15 when on the highway

    Thank you for the reviews and your knowledge. Our family is safer because of your videos as we watched them before we bought anything. We bought a 2018 RAM 2500 6.4 HEMI gas with tow capabilities of 15,300 and payload of 3, 000. We haul a total 9,500 (8,500 unloaded) travel trailer with a 4-point equalizer hitch. This is about 62% of the towing capacity usage which is ideal based on your towing vehicle videos. We drove cross country from Washington to Texas including taking Hoosier Pass in Colorado at 11,500 elevation and it handled amazingly! Our RAM is white all around too like the one in your video. We’ve named her “Betty White”. Thank you so much for highlighting this truck as we love ours and all the features which includes a great tow package.

    I love my 2016 2500 Laramie with the 6.4l and 4:10 gears. Came with the 5th wheel prep package and factory air bags. It tows my 5th wheel very easily. I, like others, couldn’t justify the Cummins price tag for the few times a year I tow. I can purchase a lot of gas for the cost of a Cummins. Thanks JD for the great review👍🏻

    I love the reviews on this You Tube channel. I have a 2017 2500 with the 6.4 and I get “oh it’s not a Cummins?” from people all the time. It’s a great truck and motor. I haul my 6,000 pound travel trailer just fine and haul stuff for work every week with mine. People that haven’t driven one really don’t understand they are great motors and will do most of what anyone would need. I’ve had a Cummins before and they are great too, but in my opinion more than half of the time it’s more of a novelty or toy than actual necessity. If you want a Ram with a Cummins, get one, their great engines. But so are the 6.4 hemi’s. Their just a bit overlooked most of the time. My 2 cents.

As you mentioned the Cummins upgrade, then penciling out the ROI for towing vs daily use...

    Just had a truck just like this come in the shop at work the other day for an under bed gooseneck hitch to be installed and upon further inspection the only brand that offers a gooseneck hitch for this new body style is B&W. The Drawtite one we were going to install was 2 inches bigger in the center section than the center section template that the truck had from factory. I dont even think that an over bed Cequent Rail set is available for these new Dodges yet.

    Dude, you missed some of the best things regarding the Hemi vs. Cummins... Cold starts during the winter's harsh temps are pretty much effortless: not so with the diesel. The Hemi is much better for short, quick trips while running errands or doing chores where you start and turn off your truck often. And with the Hemi, you'll have less frontend and tire wear and when the time comes you'll only have to replace a single battery... not to mention the diesel's expensive oil changes. Combining these benefits with the cost savings you pointed out will make the choice of a Hemi a win/win for anyone not towing super heavy loads. Yeah sure, the Hemi doesn't clatter and clunk like a diesel and you won't be spreading soot everywhere and you won't get to wade through a stinking pool of fuel like at most service stations selling diesel every time you fuel up, but you get the point, lol.

    I own the 2020 tradesman version of that truck. Cost me 41k and mine has the snow chief and chrome pkg. The only thing that is different is the parking sensors and fog lights for the most part. It’s great on gas on road trips (18-19mpg). It pulls hay, car haulers, or whatever pretty much effortlessly. Mileage drops down quite a bit though. It starts in sub zero temps perfectly. And the ac runs cold in Texas in the summer. I love this truck. It looks awesome and has a great stance. Ive got 23000 miles on it in about 8 months and she’s still running like new. I would highly recommend any of these rams at this time.

    Just bought a new Laramie 6.4L 2500, luckily have a family member that works at the dealership and got one hell of a deal with rebates and family discount. Ended up only paying 27K on a 62K truck with my '08 2500 Silverado trade. I went with a 4.10 rear axle though, I wanted that for my Camper, but for the deal I might as well go with the Laramie. The review for these new Rams was spot on ,you can not beat these Rams, I had a '98 Ram that was a great truck. The only reason I went with Silverado in '08 was my Sons and I bought 3 of them and got a great deal. I wanted another Silverado, but a similar equipped with only the 6.0L was about 66K and was not going to get the same type of deal !!!⚓️

      I use my 2018 GMC Sierra 6.0L Gas 3500 HD to pull my 12-13k 34' fifth wheel. Gas motors are very capable these days and like JD said that truck has 3k pounds in payload, my truck has 4k pounds, so you can max it out in every way with 4 or 5 large adults in it and with a large trailer and you still wont go over the payload of the truck. I would definitely consider a 3/4 ton truck if you want something that will tow good and have still a comfortable ride.
      Also, I did have a 2018 Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab Standard 6 1/2 foot bed with the 6.0 transmission as a work truck model unfortunately it got totaled but over the 10k miles I put on it the truck was pretty great. And I got usually around 11-13 mpg, one time I did get 15 mpg highway with it. Not the best, but with the capabilities of the truck and only being maybe 5 mpg less than a halfton I think it would make sense to get one.

    .... Hitch Weight 490
    Net Carrying Capacity 2,320 to a guy who came in with a brand new RAM 1500 Classic... I put a new Equalizer anti sway bar hitch on it.. and was amazed.. Normally I have to put a Equalizer hitch setup all the way to the top settings for any 1500 pickup. , But this one I had to drop the ball down 2 settings and the it was almost still too high.. loaded the trailer on it and you could still close the anti sway bars by hand. and the level line was perfect.. Granted this is a light no slide trailer. but the truck impressed me.. Someone getting into trailer camping towing could do well with this truck and tow up to a 30 ish footer I would imagine w/ little or no problems.. and it had Roll up windows..lol

    So glad you reviewed this truck. Everyone wants to talk about the Cummins and Aisin package with 1000 lb ft of torque. Nothing against those trucks, but I simply don't need one. My truck will be a daily driver 95 percent of the time with the other 5 percent towing a 31 ft travel trailer a few times a year. Any updates on the new towing capacity on the 19's? I haven't found that info on the Ram website. Every time I look it still shows info from the outgoing 18 models.

    • @scottjohnson943
      @scottjohnson943 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it doesn't change much, just pay attention to your differential ratio on what you buy, most dealerships only stock the higher fuel-economy configs and the towing isn't nearly as high as what you can get.

    • @kirkbrinkley6990
      @kirkbrinkley6990 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottjohnson943 You're right. 99 out of 100 of the 6.4L trucks on the lots have 3.73's. In the old generation, having a 4.10 ratio meant roughly 3000 more pounds of capacity. Actually, the 4.10 equipped trucks were only rated around 1000 lbs less than a 3/4 ton Ram with the standard output Cummins and 3.42's.

    Hey I have been looking around for a few months now and cant put my finger on a truck that would be optimal for me. I am in Maryland with a growing Landscaping business. We are optioning in getting a dump trailer with GVWR of 12000 and I plan to use all of that capability. What truck out of Ram Chevy and Ford would you recommend. I know you have experience with gas and diesel also which should I choose gas or diesel? I have driven all but I cant get the ability to tow so I dont know what hauls best? All guidance and opinions are appreciated!

    It looks like it has the options I would want. I would prefer one of the better gas engines like this one than the diesel on a 3/4 ton. Easier maintenance, don't have to worry about emissions as much and much lower cost.

    Also, $30k difference? That must be at top end trims. Big horn is ~$53k with a diesel, I only priced that out because a sunroof in CO is a bad idea.

    Another great video. The step daughter has a 2500 4x4 with 6.4, awesome truck! It is a daily driver and worked regularly hauling an 11Klb horse trailer, hay, junk and commodities. The coil rear suspension is very nice indeed. Very strong and capable truck and it is a Tradesman. With the dogs in and out of the back seats, and it getting washed twice a year weather it needs it of not, any higher trim level would simply be a waste of money. With a few added options a Tradesman can be a very comfortable and user friendly truck. My previous dually was a well optioned Tradesman with the Aisin trans and we traveled the country comfortably with the toy hauler for several years. Not everyone needs the extra visual/techie gingerbread. Keep up the great work.
