- Katatonia's new album 'City Burials' is OUT NOW.
Pre-order/ pre-save now katatoniaband....
City Burials is available on CD, deluxe mediabook CD with bonus tracks, black and coloured vinyl LPs with bonus track, and digitally
City Burials stands as Katatonia’s new triumph of deep & enigmatic progressive rock - the fruits of a rejuvenating and profound chapter in the band’s legacy; a catalyst for its creators, with a collection of moments constructed out of the fragments of an ever-evolving life. Compiled into one of their most important modern works and statements to date, the finely-honed instrumentation provides a multi-textured backdrop with the voice of Jonas Renkse guiding us through these latest trials of loss and ruin.
City Burials is an album that sees the band reclaim part of their heavy metal roots, via several moments of exuberant, old school classicism, deftly woven into these new songs’ kaleidoscopic fabric.

I've never heard of this band until just now... that singer has an incredible voice
JarrethDragon its been since the mid 90s for me. Maybe even 1994 when i first listened
listen to the Great Murder Days album and see if you still agree lol
Run listen to Viva Emptiness then
Dance of december souls....
It's even better live, almost like magic. Once the pandemic is over... If you have an opportunity, give it a try
Stopped everything I was doing to listen to the song.... Welcome back guys..... :)
Me too
Same. Was in the middle of doing the dishes. Them shits can wait!
Katatonia releases the softest song in ages. Some random moron on the internet says "welcome back" -,-
@@coldvoid two things about Katatonia
1) Never had two similar albums released, so don't expect the 90s back...
2) who cares if they are heavy or not, their music is emotional...
If you like heavy, you are probably in the wrong place mate....
I have an anatomy lab practicle exam in 30 minutes and I can't seem to peel myself away from this song to study 😂🙌
Honestly, Katatonia are so good at this dark pulsing electronica that I wouldn't complain if the whole album sounded like this. I'm still expecting them to riff it up as well but I'm honestly just glad they're still making music. Dat voice!
Same. I will take whatever crumbs of talent they wanna hand out at this point.
My thoughts exactly. It has the finesse and enmotional depth of Night Is The New Day... without the band being present. I like new directions... and Jonas’ voice is like holy cow!
@@thekitchenfreak His voice is H A U N T I N G. I love it. If I were a woman I'd never stop calling him.
It's not going to be all like this.

@@Aenigmakil Here for it
This man's voice makes me want to cry and live!
Right?! He has such an amazing voice!
did this on 2 live gigs.... i was crying, yet so happy.... ;')
He really does, and it gets better every album. He doesn't rest on his laurels.
Definitely so
@Erib0 He calls then listens for the echo from your soul.
Jonas Renkse is a gift to the world of metal.
LYRICS
My voice channeling
A circuit's end
The house we lived in
Stricken with blight
Finding ways to kill the pain
Let the river run wild
Dreams shattering
Aerial sound
Scrape the lacquer
Can't you see, it's all tarnished
Tried the poise
To radiate
Tried my words
To illustrate
Finding ways to end the pain
I let the river run wild
Dreams shattering
Fixing to die
Scrape the lacquer
Can't you see, it's all tarnished
The levee breaking
I can't live to fight once more
The levee breaking
I can't live to fight once more
The road to the grave is straight as an arrow
I'm just staying around to sing your song, baby
The road to the grave is straight as an arrow
I'm just staying around to sing your song, baby
My voice travelling
Soaring bird above your head
The house we lived in
Ridden with disease
Scrape the lacquer
Can't you see, it's all tarnished
The levee breaking
I can't live to fight once more
The levee breaking
I can't live to fight once more
The road to the grave is straight as an arrow
I'm just staying around to sing your song, baby
The road to the grave is straight as an arrow
I'm just staying around to sing your song, baby
These lyrics are beautiful as always. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks so much for this 👍✨👍✨
Amazing lyrics and perfect vocal delivery. Katatonia continues to innovate.
@@Payne823 baby? baby?! oh oh oh yeah.
Thx for the lyrics👍
There's something really touching about hearing this voice finally opening up like this, the voice we came to know so well and relate so much through all these years, now showing colors we've never seen before. To me is really beautiful and inspiring.
Yes! You say it so much better than me, I just cry.
Now thats the comment I was looking for. Totally agree with you. Jonas's voice is a gift from heaven, or hell?
True. Vocal parts and composition superbly done too. Mature in songwriting too.
Fantastic track
That f**king voice, man.
Jonas can do no wrong.
Love this.
Welcome back
I was heading to a nightshift surfing youtube. Until I saw this, I literally froze, looked up to the sky, took a deep breath and hit play. I walked goalless beside the wood in the dark hearing this soothing voice and was literally about to shed tears. When I reached the hospital where I work when I took off the Headphones it felt like I was thrown out of happily depressing paradise.
Those guys never failed me. not once.
All of the comments seem to reflect this. I dropped what I was doing too and cranked up my headphones. This is like a highly spiritual religious experience. I'm glad to know everyone seems to feel the same. I hope Jonas reads these comments.
Я уединяюсь в маленьком доме на берегу реки, включаю это и погружаюсь в другое измерение
Great story. But I find Kataonia tremendously uplifting. Even with the darkest songs. The greatness of their music proves to me that good is real. So I dont have depression. Life gave us Katonia, so the life is not at fault.
I wish you to tackle depression. Its not hard.
*Katatonia is like good wine, it only gets better over the years! Thank you guys for your work!*
oh yeah
I can hear Brave murder day and Dance of December fans getting triggered at this comment from across my screen...
yes
the quality of the wine was perfect yet from the first album, so...
@@balazsfoldes4700 ахахаха в точку!
His voice can literally save lives.
It sure has.. 🖤
This song NEEDS to be the soundtrack to a scandinavian noir tv series.
They've always given me a medieval feeling, that would also be amazing.
OMG, absolutely
That would totally be a perfect fit !
Progressive melancholic bliss. Masters of the craft. Painting bleakness and beauty in harmony as it should be.
Katatonia's comment part gathers a beautiful community.
I didn't expect that a new album came so early. It proves they are truly talented musicians.
Cheers to you all Katatonia listeners! 🙏🏻
They had me worried there for a while....
Its true, they develop albums so often and all of them has an inmense quality. Is awesome the ease that they have to create incredible music.
@@georgevernon9153 Oh yes, you're right! Have you a link of this interview? :)
@@georgevernon9153 Great! Thanks mate, gonna check it out while listening again and again to the single! I'm so hyped of the entire release from now!
Как персональная колыбельная, томная и на ушко. Очень деликатная, но при этом эмоциональная. С моих 16 лет поменялось многое, но Кататония - каждый раз в самое сердце. Любовь!!!
Согласна на 100%
Повністтю згідний
This is gorgeous, I’m falling in love with this band all over again
You fell out of love with them?
@@joeyvalo6858 Exactly...in fact, the only album they have ever released that didn't do it for me was Tonight's Decision. Ever since Last Fair Deal it was constant amazing album after amazing album.
If u broke up with them once id never trust in relationships😅
THEM BOYS ARE BACK! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Katatonia never disappoints, Jonas has evolved with his voice, great song!
As always - crying so much tears for every line of the lyrics ... Katatonia is one of the bands who seems to be able to express what i can't say - or maybe i wish to
Exactly!
can’t believe the day has come with their new album, i can already say 2020 is a good year for me because i can feel depressed in happiness with their songs again
got the same feeling, all the dread went away and I just went into the song obsessively haha :)
Me too!!!
You got it right in there... katatonia happily depresses me or is the opposite?
@@Pichiguaki it's the same feeling I suppose. i'm glad i'm not the only one being excited to get depression again this april
"Depressed in happiness " brilliant description of listening to Katatonia.
This song literally puts me in a trance state, like i literally feel my body numb somehow... Its incredible
I've lied down and listened to whole albums..opening my eyes just to realize the album was finished and i had been on an inner journey to -i don't know where , but felt a sense of serenity and peace that has no words.
Oh cool, Katatonia's back
Without guitars!
@@chriswork5552 don't worry
It's a experimental music track
Ambient-ish too
very edgy
Oh Jonas, your voice is the most beautiful melancholy out there. It's been ages and I still can't have enough of this man's voice. He's tried new heights and techniques as well, which is refreshing but still very familiar.
Hands down probably the best chorus i've heard in the last few years
There is something different about the vocals... something richer in terms of range and layers. It is reminiscent of their earlier music but is also quite unique. As always the sound is intelligent, mature and moving.
I noticed a simmilar thing, when I saw them live last spring - Jonas sounded somewhat different live - less breathy, more controlled, fuller. I suppose, he had some vocal lessons in last few years.
@@bostjanvolk I agree with you
I noticed the same!!
They have really evolved over the years, hard to believe he was originally the drummer lol
I've been thinking that myself! Even just between Dead End Kings and The Fall of Hearts, it seems like he put a lot of work into his voice.
'Departer' vibes. Sooooo good. Welcome back guys 💜💜💜
Indeed! Love those subtle electronic touches :)
Nice surname. . . :)
@@gloomygrim8668 gee thanks. I've only been hearing that since the first grade 👍🏻
@@msravenmystique I can't wait to hear full album but I am bigger fan ov older Katatonia. Jonas's voice is perfect as always but instrumental part is totaly shallow. . .
@@gloomygrim8668 I love them from Viva Emptiness forward. The Great Cold Distance is my top record. They are my absolute favourite band and I've seen them 4 times. I could go on all day about Jonas.
Did i just spent hours listening to this over and over again? Yup. Will i keep on listening to it over and over again? Definitely.
This song is so great, I love trippy hoppy Katatonia. Jonas unleashing the beast with that great vocal. I may be biased, though, because I simply love Katatonia, but you know I'm right.
His voice. It was all I needed today *-*
I can't get enough of his voice!
You can definitely tell Renske has improved so much his vocal skills. It just gives more dynamics and possibilities to their already multi faceted music. Great atmosphere as usual. Can't wait fo the album to drop!
I'm going to cry now, thank you Katatonia for this and thank you for existing
Another masterpiece from one of the most brilliant bands of our time.
So true
My favourite band of all time returns.
Me2
Jonas channeled his inner Trent Reznor and the results were astronomical.
His Voice... His Damn Voice... So Deep, Dark & Beautiful... Amazing.
What can I say.... my heart just went strait as an arrow to the grave. True fan for life.
There aren't that many bands that can deliver emotions the way Katatonia does. Sooooo good!!
Wow, just wow, can't even believe that they are releasing a new album. Literally, just goosebumps. Love you Katatonia. from a Bangladeshi "Katatonic".
I love the way he sings. Welcome back guys! 🖤🇧🇷
This song is incredible every note, every voice, every second is perfect.
The main reason I love this band is there willingness to continue to evolve and continue to pump out outstanding music. Only recently became a fan about 4 years ago but I can tell this is going to be their best work to date.
LOVE. This was released on my birthday and I didn’t even notice.
Another lyric from a Katatonia song had stuck with me after many familial deaths: “Sing a song for the ones who never made it.” The lyric here in Lacquer reminded me so much of that, “I’m just staying around to sing your song.”
I feel as though everything I do is for them-for the ones who never made it. I’m here to sing for them.
And you're here to sing for the ones who are going to make it.
That prior lyric is one of my favorites as well.
"City Burials is an album that sees the band reclaim part of their heavy metal roots, via several moments of exuberant, old school classicism, deftly woven into these new songs’ kaleidoscopic fabric." Can't wait to hear the diversity you brought !
It's funny to read this under a pop song. It isn't bad for pop at all, but I need more guitars.
@@82habbal30 I wouldn't exactly call this pop... you're not gonna hear it played in the grocery store. Maybe "funeral pop"??
Its not pop at all dude. Maroon 5 use guitars and what do you consider them?
I too prefer guitar focused tracks, but if this song is "pop" it's a good kind of pop. Feels quite ambient too
This is a song that gives me chills every time. Stunningly beautiful.
Truth... Beyond truth.
Absolutely love it! Mr. Renkse can do no wrong. Can't wait for the whole album.
Loving this unexpected direction! This is so good! Jonas' best vocals to date. Would love to hear more of this paired with some crushing doom guitars.
Be still my heart 😍. After so many albums and so many live shows, I love to see their sound evolve with each album. I put off chemo to go to a show in 2013, and I have 0 regrets. Can’t wait for a North American tour 😍
They got the drop in me... Hearing new music by your favorite band is an otherworldly, emotional, and inspiring feeling. There are tears down my face. Welcome back, Katatonia. 🌹
Katatonia WAS my favorite before I heard this song... and they are STILL my favorite band
Didn't even hear the full song and already smashed that "like" button.
Had serious conversation with my girlfriend, I've stopped everything to listen this song by seeing katatonia's post on facebook, Feeling better i mean amazing! Oh my his Voice!!
Yeah, I usually respond to every text immediately. My SO was grocery shopping and texted me if I need anything else, I left her on seen to check this. She was a bit mad when she arrived home but understood after learning that Katatonia had released a new song lol
Jonas could sing the dictionary and I’d still listen. This is unbelievable.
i had a heart attack when i saw the notifications, totally worth it. amazing song,.
Jonas' voice truly is something special

fan since 2001 here. I can't find words to describe how Katatonias' music affects my being, but its something akin to releasing blockages i didn't even know i had.

That's one of the best things about the song! Those low bass background vox at 1:12 set it off.
The low part of his voice is getting more and more interesting the older he gets, that's for sure!
This is seriously gonna be the best Katatonia album yet. Holy FUCK was I hoping for shit like this with their next effort. Chills all over!

Awesome! Sounds like they're embracing the electronic sound they've had on some of their previous remixes and B-sides. A great side to Katatonia.
ABSOLUTELY beautiful, it continues the legacy of Dethroned & Uncrowned and the fantastic tour with Sanctuary. I just Love It! There is huge Power in the Darkness!
Its like feeling depression but in a good way, thanks KATATONIA 🖤
I don't understand why anyone would dislike this piece of art.. It's exposes many feelings that you can't even think of the dislike button..
As a person who gets happier as Katatonia goes slower with less distortion guitars and drums etc, I'm having an eargasm right now. I've been checking TH-cam and their website regularly in the last year to see if they finally dropped a new song. Finally it's here and it's fuckin brilliant. FUCKIN BRILLIANT.

Legends. Always.
One of the best bands around right now.
You hit me hard with this one, awesome vibe!
We need this masterpiece along with Vikings scenes. It would give the story so much emotion and vision
This is the first track I have ever heard from these guys. Incredible. Will have to listen to more on spotify!
You are in for quite the ride. They have many great albums. Check out The Great Cold Distance
The Great Cold Distance is a good starting point. Also, the song "Old Heart Falls" from their previous record is amazing!
Definitely check out Viva Emptiness, The Great Cold Distance, and Night is the New Day.

Sends you on a journey. That no other band can do that with me.
The Masters of Melancholy are back!
Long-time Katatonia fan, and recently got heavily into Sleep Token. I'm digging this for sure. It's different, sure, but Jonas is there and that's almost certainly enough for me.
I'll reserve full judgment for when the album drops. But this one's going on a playlist once it's on Spotify in the meantime. Moody and atmospheric. I'm in.
So far my favorite track on this album. Jonas and the guys still have the sound!
Very moody with an orchestral quality. Picking up some Radiohead influence as well. Very interesting as usual Katatonia. Looking forward to hearing more.
This is so absolutely mental - it’s the most awesome dark and beautiful song ever written IMO .... I am straight as an arrow but damn ,Jonas’s vocals almost give me an eargasm- loving what I’m hearing and I’m so happy they are trying new sounds and formats !
I listened to it 10 times in a row
Yeah dude, this is on constant repeat for me as well. I'm gonna have it play over and over while I sleep tonight. This shit is truly unreal. The way it's arranged and the style and atmosphere of it...impossible to get tired of it.
