Katatonia’s take on 80s metal, with tasteful guitar flourishes from Anders & Roger and impeccable harmonies from Jonas. Loved Laquer. Love this. Bravo, boys

I wonder if there is a term to group these guys in, like the Peaceville Swedes or something? Haha But I love seeing their influences come through in their music. Åkerfeldt and Swanö are more into 70s prog while Renkse and Nystrom are more into post-punk / goth rock. But they're united by their love of classic heavy and death metal, especially Judas Priest and Morbid Angel.

This is what's weird. I am not familiar with Jonas outside of the work he did with Arjen Lucassen. I am only now discovering Jonas, and listening to his old material. I was absolutely compelled to do so, after hearing him singing in Aryeon, "Waking Dreams". There was something there that just said, There's so much more to this man than meets the eye. Now, I'm here, and there's going to be new music, and I simply cannot WAIT. Katatonia was intriguing before, but now there's a maturation occurring that makes me want to play songs over & over & over until I fall asleep with them ringing in my ears....

Fingers crossed that more tracks on the album are like this one! Fucking FRESH. Amazing how this band never released a bad album and so different one from the other.
for me dead end kings is the best work they have done, The complexity of the lyrics, The hard riffs really fits the calm singing, With it turning aggresive in some parts which was my favorite thing about, The whole album is written with tragedy, and instrumentally the sorrow is there which i never actually think they nailed for me personally before DEK. the riffs was too calm, old hearts, was again a more relaxed take but the lyrics was still strong, I hope this album will be as hard as dead end kings instrumentally, But i also think dance of decembre souls is some of the best within the whole melodeath genre
I'm a big fan since 2006, "TGDC" is one of my favourite albums ever. I think the atmosphere on that album is second to none. I have to note one thing: For me, Katatonia is a like a very good friend, almost like a soulmate, someone who understands your deepest, darkest feelings, someone, you can share your hopelessness, desperation, depression with, and she/he always be there for you, no matter how tough are the times. Up until this point, they had this moody but not very depressive (like My Dying Bride) sound, it was their trademark, and i know that most of the band has left, but for me, it's.... very very different! "Lacuquer" was an all right song, we've heard something like that a few times. But this. It's a bit upbeat..?! Jonas is shining, that's clear as day, the drums sounds like something on "TGDC" (for me.) I can feel a bit of the old Katatonia buried under this proggy sound. But this riff, is a bit too upbeat. I'll wait for the full album, because it seems, that it will be very diverse.
Yeah I can't enjoy this one at all. Not a style that does anything for me. This is probably the first katatonia song ever that sound-wise I can't connect with at all. No offense to everyone that is digging it please don't eat me alive. Love katatonia but this track isn't for me. I liked lacquer though so I'm sure there will be some tracks I really love. That's cool that so many people are liking this though. Katatonia deserves all the support we can give them. They are in a league of their own no matter what they do going forward.
Discovered this band only a few months ago...i know...shame on me !!! Blew my mind...they changed everything ! But this one song has to be the climax of it all ! A true masterpiece !!! Can't begin a new day without listening to this song !!!
Super excited for this. In my opinion, Katatonia basically gets better with every record (Night Is the New Day being an exception). Dead End Kings and The Fall of Hearts are my favourite Katatonia records, and I can't wait to hear the rest of this new album. Very happy with the singles so far.
Amazing song! I always loved these guys, looks like I lost track of how many albums they've been putting out. They're bringing the aggressive guitar stuff back which is great and they've mastered and balanced the softness of the singer's voice with it.
I love how that first verse hits with a classic goth rock sound, but with the signature vocal style it gives a really interesting perspective to that trope. bass sounds fat af. i like the atypical song structure with the solo at the opening. overall, very impressed!

Behind The Blood"
Rivers rush, behind the blood
The cinder skies come alive with this drop of sunset
How far can we go? Along the elusive flood
I've been waiting all of my life to be with you
Such a pale spark
Such a long wait before you would let me know
Before you would bless me with your thunder
The ground shakes
It carries the weight of the letting go
I can feel you tear me asunder, whoa!
My love, I can feel you push and give way to drowning
I can feel you pierce my heart
Hammers thrust within the cells
You're a torch to the temple of depression
Saturnalian curse, these are my heaving words
I will do it all over again to be with you
Motionless now
Venin is in the blood
You're a preacher
Without a cross
Give me some trouble
Get me some trouble in
I can't wait
I can't wait again
I can't wait again, no!
Such a pale spark
Such a long wait before you would let me know
Before you would bless me with your thunder
The ground shakes

Wow wow wow wow - This is absolutely mental ! cant wait for the album ! love it...
Discovered this band only a few months ago...i know...shame on me !!! Blew my mind...they changed everything ! But this one song has to be the climax of it all ! A true masterpiece !!! Can't begin a new day without listening to this song !!!
A total new fresh sound! Love it!
From Doom Metal to 80's Heavy Metal, what a change !
Really good to hear these guys again.
Amaaaaazing 🖤 Jonas's voice!!!😍🥰
Super excited for this. In my opinion, Katatonia basically gets better with every record (Night Is the New Day being an exception). Dead End Kings and The Fall of Hearts are my favourite Katatonia records, and I can't wait to hear the rest of this new album. Very happy with the singles so far.
02:51 love this vibe
I worship the hell outa Katatonia .!!!! Amazing Band
What a stunning song! Especially solos are mind blowing! I think this is the best song of the album.
Amazing song! I always loved these guys, looks like I lost track of how many albums they've been putting out. They're bringing the aggressive guitar stuff back which is great and they've mastered and balanced the softness of the singer's voice with it.
This is the sickest intro I’ve heard in a long time. Holy fuck
I went to a Katatonia & Opeth show once. What a treat to the senses!
I love how that first verse hits with a classic goth rock sound, but with the signature vocal style it gives a really interesting perspective to that trope. bass sounds fat af. i like the atypical song structure with the solo at the opening. overall, very impressed!
Превосходная гитарная работа! Мелодизм и неповторимый вокал Ренксе по прежнему радуют. С нетерпением жду альбом.
Im a long term fan, since 1997,i Love this "modern" metal katatonia brought to us since Discouraged ones
Wow 2020 is starting off with killer new ProgMetal. Katatonia, haken, and Caligula's Horse. I have pre-ordered all!
