    Someone here was offering a very small and informal German class. We used Mr. Richard's Short Stories in German for Beginners. It was actually entertaining, with just the right degree of difficulty. Helpful.

    Thanks for this! I am interested in getting the Spanish one, and it seems like they will be good for my level. As a German native speaker, I can say that I am quite impressed by your accent. It is not quite indistinguishable from a native speaker, but it is very clear and understandable, and far better than most German learners that I hear. Good job and keep it up!

    Thanks! Pre-ordered the book as soon as I saw how big it was and how many stories it had. It's very hard to find big volumes of material to really sink your teeth into when you're lower intermediate in your language learning.

    I am also elearning Japanese actually but books seems impossible for me since I am still straggling with kanji. Don't know if there's Japanese story books with hiragana, I would be extremely happy if you can recommend me. Thank you your German story. Love it

    • @Howtogetfluent
      @Howtogetfluent  ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry for not replying sooner, Elke, don't know how I missed this. Most learner books have furigana, that's to say small kana written above the kanji, to help learners. You even see this in some contexts in Japanese for natives (e.g. above station name signs on train platforms, as people won't always know how to pronounce the kanji of a place name). The only problem with furigani for oldies like me it that they're often too small for us to read comfortably.

    For german, consider books by Angelika Bohn or André Klein, I'd say. They start out a bit easier, but the stories and characters are a bit more colourful. Olly's book does give you more content for your money though.

    I bought the book and the back cover states that audio files for the stories are available at the teach yourself website. Does anyone know where they are lurking? It would be very helpful to hear the words spoken as I am learning them.

    • @Howtogetfluent
      @Howtogetfluent  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The website given on the back cover no longer seems to work. The audio is available at Audible but you have to pay after the free 30-day trial, as I understand it.

    • @Howtogetfluent
      @Howtogetfluent  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grüße Angela! I've just checked on Amazon and there's an audio version available with Audible (I think that's a subscription service but, if I remember correctly, they may do free trials). Combinng text an audio can be really powerful for dictation, shadowing, variety etc as I'm sure you're very aware.

I an pretty sure Olly does not know Norwegian (well enough) to translate the stories without help. And yet, no credit for the translators. I hope it’s not translated with google translate...
