- Emergency dispatcher Kevin Collins took the stand in the trial against Carly Gregg on Monday afternoon where you can hear the chaos unfold after accused killer teen’s step-father, Heath Smylie, found his wife’s body. Gregg is accused of shooting Ashley Smylie three times. The teen is seen bawling while listening to the call.

Fifteen-year-old Carly Gregg is accused of brutally murdering her mother and attempting to murder her stepfather in March of 2024. Gregg allegedly shot her mother in the face numerous times inside their Mississippi home before she's accused of calling her friend over to show her the gruesome scene. Have you ever called 911, I have numerous times..... yes, I needed to calm down so they could understand what I was calling for. It may sound mean, but it really does help
To be honest the 911 operator didn’t know all the facts to be so subjective. To be fair in an extremely dire and chaotic situation.
Have you ever worked for 911? It sounds harsh but they are trying to help the person. And if they can't understand then yes they may have to say calm down.

Kids have few rights in the U.S. and then when one commits a crime, they are automatically an adult but 5 minutes before the murder, this case, there was no right to drive, drop out of school, buy a car, buy property, own a gun, own property, sign legal paperwork, travel without parents permission, adopt a puppy from the pound, go to a doctor, drink alcohol, buy alcohol, buy cigarettes, get a tattoo…..basically nothing. I think people are being harsh on the operator. Yes, his questions are frustrating, but at the end of the day he tracked his address, got his phone number, got the facts of the shooting, and the police were at the scene in 6 and a half minutes.
I agree. The operators do their best to redirect and focus the caller in order to obtain accurate info, very often they do this by asking the same questions repeatedly, in addition to this this particular dispatcher asked the husband to remove himself from what had to be a horrific sight and go outside in order to help him calm down and focus on the questions. It seems cruel and rude but the operator is there to get help as quickly as possible to the victims not be their therapist or social worker.
