Why wasn't this therapist told to answer with words, not uh huh and mmm hmm, etc. How in the world were they legally and correctly record the multiple non- word utterances? I was not aware the uh huh, mmm hmm, etc. were actually legally able to be recorded in the official courd records.

She reminds me of my sister, defiant and not wanting to follow rules. This girl gets angry from her mom outing her about smoking pot. She’s a master manipulator, saying she blacked out. But when she was hiding the gun from the cameras view after she shot her mother, was that part of the blackout she refers to? She may be depressed, being a teen has its challenges, but you don’t murder your mother. And turning down the plea deal, she thinks she’s so much smarter than anyone else and feels she will play this game and be set free. She needs to be locked up, whether it’s a prison or a nut house. She does not belong among society.

I definitely think she has a personality disorder, possibly ASPD, and that is technically a mental illness. However, the defense is “insanity.” Personality disorders do not make one insane and it does not mean you’re in a psychotic break. ASPD doesn’t break one’s grasp on reality usually, to my understanding. Not a professional and nor is ASPD an enthusiastic subject of research of mine.

If she was dissociating and having aural hallucinations (hearing voices), she would not have had the presence of mind to hide the gun behind her back (to both try to hide it from the home's security system's videocameras and from her mother), nor would she have texted her father trying to lure him to the house so she could also shoot and murder him or run from the crime scene. Her behaviour shows her cognitive facilities were not affected by symptoms typical of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and strongly suggests she knew full well that what she did was wrong but did not care. As such it's absurd for the psychiatrist the defence called to testify to try to claim diminished responsibility by virtue of mental disease or defect. Her behaviour does not support her being legally insane only that she premeditatedly planned to murder both parents and knew this was wrong. To put it in colloquial terms she's "bad, not mad".

There is a nationwide shortage of mental health care providers. Advanced care providers (NP’s and PA’s) are frequently utilized to fill in these needs for providers to provide medication management. I still think that a psychiatrist should provide oversight and guidance on these cases, supervision requirements vary from state to state. A therapist and counselor should also be apart of any treatment plan.
