- As the trial against Carly Gregg continued on Tuesday morning, the state presented security camera footage from her parents' house, where she is heard screaming and then running out after allegedly shooting at her stepfather, Heath Smylie, following the brutal shooting of her mother.

Fifteen-year-old Carly Gregg is accused of brutally murdering her mother and attempting to murder her stepfather in March of 2024. Gregg allegedly shot her mother in the face numerous times inside their Mississippi home before she's accused of calling her friend over to show her the gruesome scene. If convicted, Gregg faces life behind bars.

Had she shot anyone else instead, her mother (& dad?) would be imprisoned for allowing her access to the gun.
Ran away, knew there were consequences and didn’t want to face them, therefore she understood right and wrong and is legally culpable. She freaked out because her stepdad got the upper hand. Do not let her appearance fool you.

It’s Anyone’s guess. I hope they put her on the stand, but I’ve got a feeling they won’t. If she had an ‘attitude’ on redirect, she’d become very unlikeable to the jury….if she’s not already?

I haven’t seen a lot about this case but maybe he does truly believe she was “insane” and didn’t know right from wrong. He seems like a really sweet, loving man. I’m sure it’s hard to imagine his stepdaughter would do something this awful.
I guess he sees her as his daughter and has unconditional love for her,he may have PTSD from this horrific crime.Who knows.

I can’t get over the friend didn’t run away. Let’s say he went over there. He didn’t know beforehand what he was gonna see unless he did. I don’t know what the text message said, but he went and then when she said go go in the backyard and wait he waited, after seeing a body why didn’t he run to a neighbor and call the police? He could’ve saved a life.

She is being tried as an adult. Defense is trying for insanity plea, but I don’t think it will work (I live near where it happened in Mississippi). She was offered a plea, I think for 20 years, but turned it down.

You can’t tell me that technology, video games, internet, social apps aren’t contributing factors. I know drugs and kids being coddled and not disciplined play a part. Her alibi would’ve been that he killed his wife, tried to kill her too and that’s why she screamed and ran, before shooting himself.
