“We need more time to polish”
“We need more time to implement features.”
“We need to more time to get the game to work.”

as someone who was involved with the process as a former tester, the biggest one not mentioned is "We need to delay this game so it doesn't get absolutely slaughtered by X game?(s)." Call of Duty for years forced others to move, especially when the first Destiny's date was announced. Moving around the calendar without having to risk being trapped in Summer (typically the slower release season for games) or missing events such as the Black Friday/ Xmas rush in the States is always a handful. Or the dumbass rush to beat the quarter end so they can offload losses due to development, cut staff to save money with said project over, and thereby save the quarter for their stock people as a public company. I always respected a developer who was willing to just sit in a January/February with a major release missing BF/Xmas entirely outside of preorders.
@@thecrimeskeleton4848 and the 5th one is mighty number 9 probably embezzling the money. Like seriously, it's not just that it was delayed, it's quality was so bad it warrants asking if the delays were attempts to get more money while still doing nothing.

@@kikiphallin It's so they could charge for the DLC, that would make more money on the Switch given it's success at surpassing the Wii U's life time sales within 10 months of release, with it currently having sold over 70 million units.
Plus they needed to release the Wii U version as to not risk the potential negative impact on the Switch sales, given the failure of the Wii U and how quickly they wanted to move on from it, ending it's production before the launch of the Switch and it not making it to a 5 year lifespan.
Isn’t this a proven fact? Didn’t they state officially that they it was ready to release in late 2016 but they realized that they could wait for the switch for extra money?

I am pretty sure it was delayed.
He occasionally has times when he has to delay a video because of an accident with his hard drive, personal life needing more attention than his professional life, maybe the episode needed more work than initially expected, or other reasons. Every time, he's always apologetic about it because he feels he's doing other people a disservice or he needs that schedule in order to feel consistent and create fifty episodes per year, but in the end, no one's offended by the occasional delay because he already does more work for his job than most would expect of him, so getting delayed is more like "yep, I'm acting a bit more average with my schedule" instead of "oh my gosh, I STINK!"

Well, I'd say they're usually just a product of having executives that don't know how development actually works, so they set idiotic deadlines and fuck up everything, so the game is either delayed or you get a shitty ass game
Or lose interest depending how long it’s delayed.
delays can be used effectively to avoid other game releases - like if a big game is dropping in November and you suspect it to eat into your game sales you can delay your game until February next year for example - by then most people would be looking for another game to play etc

You forgot to mention the fact that when Rayman Legends got delayed, the announcement came literally like, two or three weeks before the game was supposed to come out. The delay was so close to the release of the game that many people like myself had already went and bought a Wii U just to be able to play the game, so that made it hurt even more that they were delaying it to port it to other consoles we likely already owned.

The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe got delayed a few times and by a few years in the end, but man I'm so glad it happened and so glad the rest of the fanbase was as understanding because what we ended up getting went above and beyond and I couldn't ask for more from the game

I LOVE Scott's comedy style. It looks like he spends a while on each of the jokes and makes sure that you'll laugh and not just blow a small amout of air through your nose.

I mean the problem with cyberpunk was that it wasn't delayed enough (or that it was announced many years too early). In the words of Jim Sterling, it should have been delayed for three years (although to be fair we might have still got a shitty game after that, but hey at least it wouldn't be a buggy underperformant mess).

It's funny, people complain about delays and then they say the game is bad because it was "too rushed"
The problem is announcing a release date before they are sure when the game is ready. One should be careful when making promises.
I remember a comment on a Spawn Wave video that said something about not wanting Bayonetta 3 to be rushed, and then said that Kingdom Hearts 3 was "rushed"... despite it being delayed. Does this guy not know what the word "rushed" even means? Or was he so disappointed with KH3 that he needed an excuse to shit on that game? A delayed game can't be rushed! Unless it's Cyberpunk 2077...

oh god yeah, and a few months after it released, it was in every bargain bin, I actually forgot to return my rented copy from my library and they forgot about it
Crackdown 3 is like the main reason I'm so skeptical of the Xbox game pass model. We don't have to put out games worth $60 if they're free with the subscription! You're already paying for it, you can't complain. Microsoft likely makes far more off of Game pass than they would have selling all of their games individually, but it definitely hurts their modern releases imo. Battletoads is another example of a game that isn't judged as harshly because people mostly played it via game pass for 'free'.
Edit: I also just want to add that I think Game pass is an excellent service and provides amazing games for the money, but I do think it will encourage MS to stop pursuing those big name highly acclaimed exclusive games that we love, which I'd take over the subscription.

@@Monafide3305 Microsoft admitted that, right now, they actually aren't making much profit on gamepass, which is one thing everyone's been thinking about. How is gamepass making them money? Personally, I love gamepass, and I don't think even remotely that gamepass is the reason these games come out and suck. This has been a problem for a LOT longer, even just with Microsoft's games. A quick look at EA's catalog would show ple ty evidence of that.
