Should have asked questions about Apple's manufacturing plans for India. Because as of now more than 80% of Apple products are still manufactured/assembled in China and US cos are looking at a China+1 strategy especially when Tata has announced plans for local manufacturing of Apple devices. Another interesting question would have been what regulatory environment Vietnam/Malaysia etc offers which makes them much more accessible for manufacturing giants compared to India.
The other countries you mention talk less, do more. And they don't have the habit of using tax or customs or other authorities to 'investigate' when there is some friction with foreign companies.

No instead in countries like Indonesia and Vietnam, manufacturing happens way above their weight and that's what matters more than anything else. Vietnam and Indonesia are way above India in Semiconductor and Electronics manufacturing. And no Tim Cook doesn't necessarily need to give cope interviews like these having already established a lot of Apple ecosystem there. Hope you understand what I'm getting at.

There were exports of Indian made goods, including automobiles, though most of those were to other developing countries. There were significant investments by Indian companies as far back as the 1970s and 1980s, in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. Plus Africa. But the scale of what's happening, or about to happen( if all goes well) now, is much larger.

Apple has got a market of 1.4 billion people in India, how is it possible to have such a large market without a physical store. It is not at a big thing. China has already won the race long before by having all the American companies in Chinese land.
02:14-02:24 The interviewer asks a question an then gives that look at 02:22 which indicates that for whatever reason he doesn't believe Tim Cooke's answer. Weird and amusing. Me personally, I don't get the hype. Apple has negligible presence in India and they don't sell any of their wider product lines except for a few select devices. That doesn't inspire confidence. Additionally, their brand strategy is incompatible with the Indian mindset, they can't make it about identity or image nor can they replace the Indian way of life as aspirational thought in India doesn't work in that way. I wonder how they can sustain their business here. I'm not opposed to them, but I if they have to survive here then they have to change everything about their branding and strategy because for better or for worse hum Indians toh aise hi hain ji! Lol. However, one thing that comes to mind is that in 2014-15 Apple was asked that they had to aim to expand manufacturing in India and start sourcing materials loacally if they wanted tax breaks, Tim Cooke rejected the offer and then responded by saying that if Indians were that price conscious then Apple could sell them refurbished products instead of new (talk about insulting!!) but thank fully the Indian Govt rejected that extremely distasteful and condescending offer and told Tim Cooke and Apple to take a hike.
We must be worried that foreign companies are coming in India and they take 50% of their profit to their country. They are hiring talents in India instead we are offering them high profits. Guys common let's be aware of this. Indian companies like JIO, TATA, ADANI must be in the world.

It's good Apple opened stores here but we shouldn't be gaga about it. We should keep making our infrastructure better and reduce down our logistics so more and more such companies can do this.

Apple has got a market of 1.4 billion people in India, how is it possible to have such a large market without a physical store.
It is not at a big thing. China has already won the race long before by having all the American companies in Chinese land.

02:14-02:24 The interviewer asks a question an then gives that look at 02:22 which indicates that for whatever reason he doesn't believe Tim Cooke's answer. Weird and amusing. Me personally, I don't get the hype. Apple has negligible presence in India and they don't sell any of their wider product lines except for a few select devices. That doesn't inspire confidence.
Additionally, their brand strategy is incompatible with the Indian mindset, they can't make it about identity or image nor can they replace the Indian way of life as aspirational thought in India doesn't work in that way. I wonder how they can sustain their business here. I'm not opposed to them, but I if they have to survive here then they have to change everything about their branding and strategy because for better or for worse hum Indians toh aise hi hain ji! Lol.
However, one thing that comes to mind is that in 2014-15 Apple was asked that they had to aim to expand manufacturing in India and start sourcing materials loacally if they wanted tax breaks, Tim Cooke rejected the offer and then responded by saying that if Indians were that price conscious then Apple could sell them refurbished products instead of new (talk about insulting!!) but thank fully the Indian Govt rejected that extremely distasteful and condescending offer and told Tim Cooke and Apple to take a hike.

We must be worried that foreign companies are coming in India and they take 50% of their profit to their country. They are hiring talents in India instead we are offering them high profits. Guys common let's be aware of this. Indian companies like JIO, TATA, ADANI must be in the world.
