Johnny, more than any guitarist , captures the raw energy, speed and vitality of rock. At his prime he could peel the paint off the rear wall of any venue.

I'm from Brazil and at the time was about 16 to 17 . That was when I first heard my true guitar hero , didn't speak a word in english . I don't know if the pot touched a part of my brain or something, was hooked . When got the album and saw him , told my friend. Hendrix, Eric are Kids next to that strange man. Save some money and bought this album, not cheap . Jonh Winter live Rick Derringer played in that concert. Months later my girl gave me a puppy dog, How you gonna call him, Winter . 4 years later went to live in L A . One sunday looking at the paper saw J Winter live at The Troubador. Got to see the man , was way better than I thought. Got married and moved to D C , he came to town. Sure i was there . Finally in Rio while spending my time , got to see him again. Left almost crying, seeing him the é entire concert on a wheelchair was heavy. He left us a year and a half later. RIP my hero, you are in good company

Hear is the thing you know and i know that Clapton, Winter, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Billy Gibbons, Leslie West and BEck and all the great rockers use the same scales The blues scale and the Pentatonic scales, People like Zappa Beck and some other are more advanced and use other ones But they all play the same licks same scales it is just a matter who can play louder or faster or a great sound or "Bad sound" Some times these guitar players have better nights then other I saw Leslie West and thought he was the best then when i saw him again i was like WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED he was so boring Clapton too i saw clapton play in 1992 he was on fire Better then what you see hear with Johnny but then again i saw clapton another time and he must have been on downers? Too slow and boring guitar some what out of tune, And you know Johnny Winter is great but NExt to Jeff BEck even Johnny would have told you BEck got so great and played more complexed stuff then justthree chord blues ot three chord rock he was 100 times better then Winter BUT in 2000 or was it 2001 BEck went on tour and had to stop a month into it he did not play his guitar for 18 months and just tried to pick it up and tour , well HE SUCKED !!!!! I used to sneak into clubs as a teenager when he played with this configuration starting in 1985. The first time was this dive biker bar in Spring Valley NY, an older boyfriend came with me. I was blown away. I leaned right up against the stage, which was not as loud as a few steps behind thankfully, and watched him play 5 feet in front of me.
I was stunned. I knew right at that moment this was the greatest guitar playing of this style I would ever see. My friends were all into boy bands at the time and they couldn't get it. I am so glad I saw him perform, probably 5-6 times total. But that first time in a tiny club was incredible, it was like a personal concert in a living room. Memory Eternal, Johnny.

I had one foot on the stage the whole time, not 5 feet from JW as well. I was mesmerized I couldn't see he fingers move as fast as they were moving to get the sounds he was getting.

This has got to be one of Johnny Winter's best solos with lots of little phrases thrown in. This guy plays real earthy blues- Stevie Ray Vaughn couldn't do this emotive stuff -he was more rockabilly ..
