Does God Keep His Promises? - Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

  • Friends, God cares for the world in a way that confounds us. He is faithful to his promises, but they often don’t arrive as we expect them to. We see this in the readings today as God’s promise to David that his throne would last forever is fulfilled five hundred years later in Jesus. In Jesus and the Church-the true, promised house of David-we find our safety and our peace. And in the fulfillment of his promises, we see that the providential God is the Lord of history.

I am edified and give pause to the words.hearing the same words and yet hearing the words as if for the first time. I marvel at the Bishop when he goes back and refresh or relate the Old Testament to Our Redeemer. I really liked the phrase “ the long game “.
I am 81 years old I have been in it for the long game.and while I am home I am not lonely.
I watch ( TH-cam) and pray the Mass every day. I close my eyes and I see in my minds eyes
    the Last Supper.🌹

How I wish I could get my Protestant friends in Christ to listen to such great wisdom! How I wish that they would understand and believe that God has been faithful in preserving His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church till the end of the age! How I wish I could get them to believe that my Savior has remarkable organizational skills! St. John XXIII called this "the wisdom of the ages." The wise virgins listen while the foolish ones joke around.

This is absolutely magnificent: Don't build a house for Me, I will build a house for you! God bless you, bishop Barron for your faithfulness in telling us the words of the Lord! I mean the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. You are set apart and God works in you to reveal the rhema, the epistemological and semantical beauty of His written word. The Eucharist is such an example...

One of your best homilies. The historical connection between old and New Testament is a great help in understanding the evolution of Gods plan to the importance of Jesus birth and its meaning of fulfillment of the plan. Hard to comprehend why it took so long, particularly in our present culture of immediate response and expected fulfillment. If God didn’t want a temple built by David why are we building temples (churches and cathedrals) today to honor him? Whilst those governing those temples seem to be unable to govern themselves let alone their flock who are supposed to BE the church, people true to Christ’s word for living their lives in enactment of his word such as best we can? Thanks for all you do to try to make some sense of these many paradoxes. Hopes for a Blessed Christmas and Covid free 2021.

Peace be with you Bishop Barron.
    I love your homilies.
I want to give a short version of my testimony.
    About me:
I was away from our beloved church for a long time.
I missed my confirmation at the age of 15 and since then I've been living with a deep brokeness that I didn't understand the reason for, which was basically exactly that, the missing of the confirmation. I have, in different ways, persecuted our God given church (family) and I am very sorry for that.
About one year ago I've repented in joy and pain. The 15th of July this year 2020 I was confirmed, I came home.
So I have come home to Rome, thanks to Jesus Christ whom Alone gives us all we need for eternal life through His one and holy and apostolic church (mystical body).
Thank you to all you Catholics reading this for your prayers of the conversion of sinners. Laymen and cleargy alike, rich and poor, smart and dumb, ugly and pretty, righteous and unrighteous.
    Your brother in Christ,
    Sincerely,
    Martin 'Paulus' Michael Nihlén

Wow! What a perceptual shift this homily is based on and calls for: From a short-term emotional response to an undemanding newborn smiling in a cute straw-laden crib to a mature and free commitment to Christfull living with no attachement to a feel-good outcome possibly experienced in my own lifetime. I may have just got a glimpse of the historical significance of Incarnation.

In Isaiah's last days, with Assyria at the gates, his life ending and all of Judah rejecting his message, he recounts the hope of Job, " Bind up [my] testimony, seal the teaching among my disciples. I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him." Is 8:16

Bishop Barron, I love your Masses, homilies and other teachings, but does this one mean I have to wait nearly a thousand years for God to answer my prayers for finding my husband a job, healing our marriage, etc.? God’s timing seems very slow indeed, and His answer is often worse than the situation we were praying about in the first place. This hits very close to home and I’m trying hard to understand. May God continue to bless you and your work.

The Roman Empire lasted for more than 1200 years (753 BC - 476 AD). It ended with the fall of Rome. The Catholic Church began since Peter was established by Christ as the head of his Church with these words -“And I say also to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”- in 28 AD. The Church will be 2000 years old in 2028.
No human institution has lasted as much as the Church, because the Catholic Chuch is not an entirely human institution, it is a divine-human institution. All human institutions have an end. It is the nature of human things and creations
I think there is only one reason why the Church will last until Jesus comes again, no matter how long it takes: His Word.
    He said:
“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away”.

Hinduism is much older than Christianity. Most scholars believe Hinduism started somewhere between 2300 B.C. and 1500 B.C. in the Indus Valley, near modern-day Pakistan.
