Some issues especially specific to these vehicles: ABS system failures. You’ll get ABS speed sensor failure codes but it’s actually the entire bearing assembly. There’s a ring made with a magnetic material affixed to the back of the bearing assembly, that’s how the sensor detects wheel speed. This ring is prone to cracking and falling apart on each wheel, the sensors themselves tend to be fine. Even with those fixed, you’ll be chasing gremlins throughout the entire ABS system, it’s not fun. If you got the 3.0L 6 cylinder engine, beware of timing chain stretching, getting this fixed is expensive and very involved, having a mechanic do it might cost more than what the car’s even worth. The camshaft position sensors on the market are prone to failure, which makes it hard to tell when and if the timing chain actually stretched. An easy way to tell is if both sensors on the same bank are throwing codes. The oil life indicator within the vehicle is useless, you *have* to be changing the oil about as much as your great-grandpappy says he had to change the oil on his cars just to try and keep the chains from stretching like taffy.
Thanks - but I was hoping you'd get into more on specific problems on these cars, some of which are easier to find than others: 1.) wiper transmission failure, 2.) resonator *seam* failure (not just the pinch welds), 3.) DI-related oil consumption and PCV issues (Ecotec 4-cyl), 4.) brake pulsing (rotor warp), 5.) rust at bottoms of the doors from the plastic cladding upward. I know, it's almost like I have one of these.
Please advise people not to purchase one. PVC, piston, timing chains guides and position sensors(4 cyl)cylinder, transmission. The car is fantastic if it will move. THESE VEHICLES ARE JUNK!
I was hoping for more equinox specific content. Most of this was general high mileage car stuff. I guess thanks for pointing out the transmission check plug and that the battery is under the PCM though. That's unique.
I have an appointment this morning to look at a 2015 Chevy Equinox with a 2.4L engine. I hear about different things going bad. Fly by wire at throttle body and switches on accelerator pedal. Rear crank seal blown because of bad pcv. What do you think? Thanks.
I got a 2012 equinox 4 cylinder when u start it in the morning it run for about 3 or 4 minutes and goes dead and then you start it up again and it runs all day Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
This isn’t high mileage issue. These are things you should check on any vehicle old or new. Haven’t heard any issues that Chevy had with their equinox with high miles
Please question;I have 2011 equinox ltz with 93000mile,the vehicle is very clean but drove me crazy start stalling and turning off ,I did changed the high pressure fuel pump, intake and exhaust solenoid, oxygen sensor, spark plugs, timing chain and cleaned the throttle body but still doing same!!!! Please I need your advice, thanks.
A1, I have a 2008 Chevy Equinox, I've been trying to find a video explaining how to change the Oil Pan Gasket. I have seen a few other videos that talks about an oil change, but I need something more specific to make sure I'm doing it correctly. I don't want to pay someone $500.00 just tell me the problem that I'm already aware of. Also the engine is leaking oil and it drips on to the serpentine belt. I can't really see well enough between the engine and the tire well, well enough to be able to make an assessment. If you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
That's a lot of miles.. idk if you should go for that. I just bought a 2014 and it has 114,000 and I was a little iffy about that many miles. If it had 200,000 I probably wouldn't have pulled the trigger on it.
Naw! I would not buy that mileage is to high for that price Kelly blue book tell you what the car would be worth. I purchased a 2010 for 3,500 the mileage is still In the 100,000 bracket run well
A bit late to this. If you’re looking at something with this many miles your best bet is Toyota Rav4 or Honda CR-V. I would say Rav4 more. Hondas of this age have CVTs and generally the solid 6-speed auto in a Rav4 will be more durable than the Honda CVT.
Biggest issue with Chevy Equinox later models? People actually buy them. Lol They are junk . I advised my daughter not to buy a 2019, she insisted. A year later, nothing but problems. Won't come out of park , possible bad shift interlock solenoid, engine shuts off at stop lights, what a stupid design, other issues. Stick with a Toyota or Honda My humble opinion.
Your video was very thorough, but I'm surprised you didn't mention checking the cabin filter. It's a quick and easy fix and helps with the air entering the vehicle.
I own a 2011 at barely 90 000 miles the engine burned 3/4 of its oil i switched for a special oil with special sealing shit in it for oil burner engine now it has 145 000 miles and still going down the road but i agree its far from being the most reliable car

+bkell1011 Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
How is this vehicle specific? You can have these issues with any high mileage vehicle.
👍👍 also, the passenger side fender needs some air, it’s all wrinkly!😂
Didn’t touch the Ecotec timing chain/water pump?
I second this. Water pump replacement on an equinox please!

You hardly see any of this on Honda Civics. Especially Civics that were well taken care of. One of the best daily drivers OF ALL TIME! Hohoho!! 😎

I’m looking to buy a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox LT LT2. Has 200,000 miles for $8,000. Is this good purchase? What should I ask the dealer?
