@TechnMoto thank you very much that was very helpful,,, I've change my equinox 2021 transmission fluid in the maintenance shop but after I received my car I feel little bit delay switching between the number,, little bit only,,, is that normal? Is there any way to check the transmission fluid level by myself without opening the secrw? Or its better to put it back to the maintenance shop so that they check by them self???
Good DIY video. These transmissions and small torque converters burn the oil quickly. Owners manual says 45k, best to do it every 30k. Also, these units have a temp controlled reservoir and the fluid is a single viscosity oil, thus you need to get the transmissions up to 180F when checking level. Takes 20 min highway driving in 4th, or idling for 30 minutes, and 2 fan cycles.
Just did this yesterday on a 2022, Let it run until fluid temp was 180-200 and then pulled the plug to let it level out. can check temp this way with a temp gun to see if its hot enough. If its not hot enough you can hold the brake for 15 seconds and run the throttle up to 2k, then off the bake for 20 seconds and repeat 4 -5 times will raise the temp fast.
Hey thanks for your information on changing the transmission oil in a Equinox because I drive a 2020 Equinox my self thank you little brother I was impress ed on the a good video
What would be nice to know is how much fluid that came out in quarts before you put the plug back in. You mentioned that you put in 10 quarts but you only showed putting in 8 quarts was the other 2 quarts to help in flushing out the old fluid with the fill level plug out. Does your vehicle hold 10 quarts according to the manufacture specs which includes the oil cooler and torque converter capacities? I have the same the year Equinox but the owners manual doesn't say how many quarts for the capacity. Nice video.
I did ten to flush out the system. You never get out all of it like this. I guess you could measure what you remove if you would like to know exactly how much was removed. My understanding is that these transmissions hold approximately 6 quarts. Take care.
Was the vehicle cold when you drained and added the fluid. I just did mine but only got out 5 5/8 quarts out that is what I put back in the cooled down state and the fluid still flowed out the fluid level port some, I will do another drain to get as much of the old dirty fluid out. I have seen some videos that they warm up the vehicle by driving for about 10-15 minutes first before draining out the fluid. So I'm a little confused on what is the best procedure cold or hot drain, I guess if you drain 5 5/8 quarts of cooled down fluid then that is what you put in and then check the fluid level port while running and going through the gears and then adding fluid if needed. When you put in 10 quarts did you just let the dirty fluid drain out of the fill level port until it came out red>@@TechnMoto
I’ve changed tranny fluid multiple times in a couple equinox’s I’ve had. Great video. The only thing I’m not keen on and I’d love your thoughts is draining the transmission and then starting the car and running it thought the gears. I get the reason and it gets more fluid out, but will this cause any harm? I know it’s only running for a few seconds but still. What I do to get all the oil is drain fill and drive. Do that three times. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Hello Mike, I found this interesting.I like that you said what color the transmission oil was to be. Also the tip to turn on the motor. We always hand tighten the wheel this way if I had to change it I could. Thank you for sharing this with us. 💕NonnaGrace 🐓
Thanks for the video man! 2 questions, would I be able to do this with just 2 Jack stands? And do you absolutely have to take off the wheel to access the fluid level bolt?
I've been able to do it on my 2018 by turning the wheel all the way to the right then I can get a clear view to it by laying on my side. Used a couple of extensions on a ratchet to undo the 11mm screw. Didn't need a jack. Car needs to be level to get the most accuracy so I wanted to keep the wheels on flat ground.
Just to confirm it is definitely 10 quarts? I was looking up the specs for my 2103 4 cylinder Equinox and the online Haynes manual said 5.2 quarts for a drain and refill. Do you use 2 gallons through so it effectively flushes the system? Also wanted to ask if there is any chance of damaging the transmission running it, as you do, without any fluid in it. Thanks.
I ran 10 quarts through my system to flush it out as best as I could. As far as running through the gears- I never had a problem with doing that but hey if you don't feel comfortable doing it then don't do it. Nothing says you have to. Take care.
@@TechnMoto Thanks for the reply. I haven't had the vehicle long. I also haven't had one with an auto transmission before. The 10 quarts makes sense, even though it takes 5 quarts you use the other 5 to run it through and effectively flush the system. I think I will do as you have done minus the running it while empty. Thanks for the vid.
@@jimmy1life No change to how it is shifting, not that it is bad I just like to change all fluids out when I buy a vehicle so I have a baseline to work off. I like everything about the vehicle but I'd never buy another Equinox with this engine as I found out (too late) there is a problem with thin oil rings which causes excessive oil consumption.
Hello. I took your advice and changed battery and spark plugs in my Chrysler Concorde. However I am in need of a specific advice. I was hoping if I could send you an email or contact you somehow. It’s gonna save me a lot of money and stress. Your response is highly appreciated.

I like to drain fluids when the fluid is warm. Yes, added the fluid and let it drain out the top fill level hole.

How much oil does the transmission need for Chevrolet Equinox 2017
Check your manual.
Hello. Thanks for the vídeo. Do you think its the same for a Blazer 2020 LE?
I do not know.
Hey man what happened to the flush that’s the main thing, the rest of the old oil is in torque converter.
as good as it gets doing it at home
you can repeat the process of drain and fill 2-3 times to dilute the old fluid.
How do you know when to change the transmission oil
Service manual should list it or dealer.
every 40-50k and it will live a long life.

Why didn’t you just disconnect the cooler line to drain the rest of the old fluid
The kiss system is what I follow.
W what happens when your transmission runs low
Could have issues with shifting/tranny problems

Does the behicle have to be at full operating temperature when you check the level? Or just cold but running?
I do it cold. Some say to warm it up and then check.
