Climbing on a rope inherently puts twist on your rope, but if you understand why it happens you can prevent rope twist. DMM rep Taylor Hamel came by and showed us some things we never knew about rope twist.

Here's a fun game, take a shot every time he says "rope twist".
Great demonstration tho, never thought much about rope twist when climbing. I run a different friction hitch though so maybe it's less prone to twisting. I've dealt with rope twists when rigging with coiled rope. I'll be looking for it now.

How does rope twist affect the climber? Does it severely weaken the rope? I don’t know anyone who pays attention to it & haven’t heard of a situation caused by rope twist. Just wondering, thanks.

it makes me kinda spin a little when hanging/ascending/descending? I never thought of it as dangerous, just more of a nuisance. :shrug:
