I made a workout pulley system with my pretty orange petzl Volta rope.. Now there is an oil mark on a side of the rope BOO! These typs are awesome now!
wohoooow, this can't be a coincidence! Went sport climbing outside for the first time this year on tuesday (and the last time in quite a while it seems, because they closed all crags on wednesday) and my hands are still dirty from handling my sport climbing rope! (Despite all the washing...) We were saying how I should definitely clean it, but: bucket, bath, washing machine,...? I will make work of this, quite basically because I really HAVE TO :D Thanks!
Luckily had enough time on the ice tools this season (31 actual climbing days!) to make the break more bearable!

My rope is not a dry rope. Can I still use water to wash it?

David.FMG absolutely. A dry treatment is applied to minimize the water absorbed by a rope which will inhibit the dynamic characteristics and adds to the weight. As long as the rope is given several days to fully dry, there is no problem.
As an aside, this is why most people don’t really need dry treated ropes, because the threat of rain will cause retreat from the crag without need for the rope to function in the wet.
I just clean mine couple days ago xD, this bad boy needed a good clean and know its waiting to be used and abused

So I don’t even own a rope (due to the fact that I don’t climb outside (yet) and my gym provides rope for top rope climbing) but I found this really interesting I think I’m ever so slightly climbing obsessed #noshame
Does it make sense/is it safe to apply dwr refresher or any other water repellent stuff in the last round of rinsing?
Tom Ktl not really as this will greatly alter the handling of your rope and is meant to repair worn away treatments rather than add them. Simply buy a dry treated rope for situations which need and reserve for those longer alpine multipitches.
Why not to dry in the sun? Those ropes are made for being in the sun...or am I wrong?

What if you do not have a bathtub? 😅 Heard you say something about using the washing machine?
you can but you need to run the washer empty a few times first to make sure it's cleaned of detergent/softener. Also, I think it has to be a front loading machine, without the thing in the middle. I've also heard it's advised to wash it in a pillow case so it doesn't totally tie itself in knots.
my preferred method without a bathtub is to just use a big plastic storage bin in the shower, however.

Anne K definitely use a storage bin, the amount of metallic dust is bad for appliances, and soaking the rope in a tub can leave a ring if you’re not attentive.
Will this remove poison ivy?
Poison ivy comes from an oil from the plant. I would think something like Dawn soap would cut the oil and resolve the issue. Maybe this soap would too. Just check if its OK to use Dawn on your rope and give it a try!
Corona virus won’t stop me climbed all day today and yesterday and I’m in so cal. No time to clean my ropes haha

Not seems that you guys have much experience at rope washing.... likelyeven none. You hardly will get a dirty rope clean by hand. Just go and use a washing machine.
