- How To Build and Upholster a Wingback Headboard is a quick version of a much longer 'How To' video available from Kim's Upholstery. In this YT video we briefly cover building the headboard, building the wings, padding the headboard, covering the headboard in fabric, attaching the wings and closing the wings and back.
We do have a much longer, approximately 100 minutes, more detailed video available. If you are interested please visit kimsupholstery.....
All upholstery and video is done at Kim's Upholstery and Custom Window Treatments, 162 Federal St. Greenfield MA. 01301.
I love your channel! I was going to purchase a tufted wingback headboard(start saving for one) that was over 800 dollars! I think I will take the techniques I have learned here and do this project with my grandfather! Thank you so much! :)
Glad to hear that ***** . Please share pictures of your project as you go. I would love to see what you create.
Yes, of course :) KimsUpholstery. The only part I'm not sure how to do is the wing section, as far as the angle from the headboard. Yours isn't 90 degrees to the headboard but outwards at aprox. a 45 degrees or so? That's the only part I don't have figured out, but I'll worry about that once I get started! Would you say using faux leather is more difficult to work with? I was thinking about using Richloom in Ivory, for this project, but not sure if it is an ideal choice of fabric for this type of project?
***** i think faux leather would be a fine fabric for this headboard. The shape shouldn't be a problem with this. Can't wait to see it.
***** The wing is at 20 degrees. I cut the board that attaches the wing to the backboard to 20 degrees before assembling it.
You made this look soooo simple. I learned something new today. Thank you!
That is great! Just like the ones at Pottery Barn & RH. I was surprised you didn't put Dacron on the back but I see that it really isn't needed. I want to try it but I really don't need one. I have the headboard I made 12 + years ago upholstered in suede like fabric trimmed with large nail heads. It is sooooo heavy. Wish I'd seen your video prior.
Thanks for sharing your work.

Elsa, Usted es bienvenido. Gracias por su atención. Kimberley
I noticed the video was for a queen headboard. Do you have a video, or at least the measurements for a king headboard? This is pretty awesome!
For a king headboard you just need to make the width of the main part of the headboard wider. Measure your bed and add a couple inches.
Thanks for watching.

Hi Tsuna, I would change the shape of the wings and do a channel back. Take a look at a few channel back chairs. You will get the idea. Thanks for watching.

Hi Kim. Where can I purchase the Curve Ease?
Also, I'm working on a leather wingback headboard (wood headboard, leather wings) and I'm not sure I like the cording look for this project. Can you use the curve ease without cording? Maybe place it around the edge of the wing? Thinking I would then like to cover the 'seam' up with decoractive brads/nails...
Thanks!!!
Hi, It sometime shows if you use the curve ease with out cording. You could also hand stitch it instead. The curve ease is available through upholsterers or upholstery supply vendors. Feel free to share pics of your finished project on our FB and google+ pages. We also have a community on google + for Upholstery and soft home furnishings DIYers.

Curvy is the part you use to make the wings?
