Thanks for sharing the video Kim! After watching it I now have the confidence and I am very encouraged to re-upholster my king size bed frame myself. :)
Foam, Dacron,Fabric,Curve Ease,Metal Tack Strip,Cardboard Tack Strip, Muslin, Spray Glue,1/4" Cotton Cording. We have DVD's that we will begin selling in mid March 2013. Very detailed How To upholster a headboard. They will sell for $20 plus shipping.
Hi Don, Glad you are encouraged to try! We will have more headboard videos in the future as I am preparing for a class that I will be teaching, Innovations Boston in Chelmsford MA. You can get measurements from using the bed and figuring out how tall etc you want the headboard to be. There are a few companies out there that sell headboard kits as well. Ready to cover is one that comes to mind. Let me know what you are thinking style wise and I will help if I can. Have a great day, Kim
Hi kathleenmgs, the frame is 2" thick. If your fabric does not round the corner easily then you would make a few relief cuts. A relief cut is just a simple cut in toward the curve. Practice so that you don't cut in to far. Please join Kims Upholstery (Greenfield MA) on Facebook and sign up for our mailing list. Kim
Hello Kim, Thank you for your videos I am an upholstery student in ABC adult school in Cerritos, California. your videos give me ideas for future projects having the confidence that I can replay your videos as a tutorial. I also noticed many of your subscribers are asking about upholstery classes. the school I go to has classes every day for the people interested around the Cerritos area, just google abc adult school cerritos or call the school number. thank you waiting for your new videos
I love the look of this headboard. It's exactly what I've been wanting to do. How thick is the frame? And you mention in the video that if the fabric isn't flexible, it's harder to do the curves, any pointers on how to do that?
Hello Olga, I use 5/32 or 6/32 depending on my mood! I like the ones that are net covered and not paper. You can get it from Rowley for sure. Thanks for watching, Kim
I am not sure which video teaches how to make the frame, and which teaches how to finish the back.Is it the same as used for the tufted bed? I saw a video for how to attach the headboard, is that the same video as needed for this bed? Thanks for your well prepeared and demonstrated video. Please help.
hi Kim, I admire your work and I'm challenging myself in trying to make a queen size headboard. I dont know if you can make a type of video tutorial to help me? A kind of step by step if you plaese, also if you can tell me where I can find patterns and measurments for the headboard.
Hi Mills, You can buy foam and materials at Joann Fabric, or any other large fabric store. Your local upholsterer may be willing to sell you some. We sell supplies to local DIYer's
Hi I usually make the frame 1" wider than the mattress. You want to make sure your legs will be able to be attached to your bed frame so keep that in mind when planning it out. If you look at the video again, I show you how to figure out your cuts by using the button depth times the number of buttons in the longest rows. If you plan your pattern out and know what size foam you will be using (I used 2") you should be good. Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't. Kim
Hi Marcia, Yes, the video for the tufted headboards has the same closing and frame building techniques. Attaching it all depends on your bed frame situation. Thanks for watching our videos. Kim
Hi Kim, Thank you very much for your informative video! I have a question though. What type of cording did you use and the size? I have an account with Rowley. Can I buy it from them? Thank you very much in advance!
oh and what kind of place can i go to to have the cording done? im good at building but cant run a sewing maching. (i know i will have to bring pieces of the material with me to be corded) just want to know what kind of store to look for.
Hello Barbara, I am not sure if you can find ready made cording but if you have an upholstery shop in your area or a custom window treatment business they might be willing to make it for you. The foam is a 2" but you can use what ever you want depending on the look you are going for. Thanks for watching our videos, Kim
Your best bet is to do a google search for upholstery classes in your area, or watch all the video you can on the subject and just try it for yourself. Start small with a free chair and inexpensive fabric. What can it hurt. Thanks for watching. Kim
Hi Kim! I had asked on the FB site how to stand the headboard upright. It looks like you are using the upholstery horses to lean it against. Is that correct?
Thanks for sharing the video Kim! After watching it I now have the confidence and I am very encouraged to re-upholster my king size bed frame myself. :)
Excellent video! Thank you!

Yes we had to sew the cording. It's very easy. Just use a cording foot on your machine and with a bit of practice you will be fast at it.
Kim
What size of welt cord? And what kind is it? Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. They are fantastic!
Thank Youu lipotenz. We use 3/8" L x 1/2" W. If you find yourself going through several layers of material you should switch to 7/8" L x 1/2" W. Kim

I can't seem to find part two?
Nicest upholstered headboard on TH-cam.
Thank you Jeremy Watkins.

On second thought, it looks like you temporarily attached cross boards at the bottom of the legs.
Kim you are the best....
What thickness were each of these two layers of foam? Thanks for the video, i loved it :)
Hi Cup of tees, This project was so long ago that I am not certain. Probably 2" though. Thanks for watching, Kim
