      Yes. DFS-R is in 2012 and 2012 R2.

    Does DFS eliminate the need to do data backups? Why or why not?

      +jia lin No. Replication never replaces backups since you have no point-in-time previous versions which is necessary to protect against deletions, corruption which would just get replicated with replication.

    I have a question, I have a traditional single file server and it has been growing too fast and it has become harder to backup and manage. I am considering DFS but not sure how to convert it to DFS server without causing disruption to users.

      +smartleb there will be some type of disruption to users. Find a period of low usage, middle of the night is usually best, and split out all the files on to your DFS servers. Then setup the current server as the focus point in your DFS. This will allow the users to have the illusion that nothing has changed when they walk in the next day.
