    Funniest JS video ever. 'I'll go and kill the dog in a minute..' I'm sure you can see the thought process of, 'kill the video and start all over', or 'carry on!'. Haha.

    Thanks for sharing. In 2010 I was still playing kid-pitch ball so being able to look into these topics of recent years is helpful. Will definitely be looking at your more recent videos

    Hello John, thanks for a detailed overview of DFS. I have question, when it comes to fault tolerance what is the difference between DFS and HDFS?

    This video will never get old. It is amazing to see how these technologies have evolved over time. I understand you don't take content recommendations but just a thought, it would be interesting to see how the cloud solves all these issues of replication and how organizations moved from NTFS, DFSR, to built-in replication provided by Azure Files. Thanks for all you do. God bless you and your family (including the dog who barked during the video :D)

    Hello John, I like your videos and watch them over and over again. Do you have any plans to start a fresh series of DFSR learning?
    These videos are 7 years old ☺

      so DFS-R has really not changed so creating a new series would not be really any different :-)

    Hi, How to make High Available the DFS "Namespace" ?? (Not the Folders)

  • @alexrisk3342
    @alexrisk3342 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi John, It is a good practice to use the namespace server to store shares for replication? what happend if the namespace server fails? my DFS replication between other servers fails too? (having two or more targets of course)... thanks!

    • @NTFAQGuy
      @NTFAQGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the namespace is AD integrated you can just add multiple namespace servers that will offer the same namespace. DFS-R would not stop if the namespace was down. They are actually two separate things.

    • @alexrisk3342
      @alexrisk3342 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! mmm and how I should do that my friend? because I add the another server with the "add namespace to display" but the DFSRoots folder doesn´t appear in the aditional server, therefore if my principal DFS namespace fails, there is no access to the namespace at all.

    • @NTFAQGuy
      @NTFAQGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it needs to be AD integrated. if its not then use a cluster to make it highly available.

  • @cubanomx2

    very good. can I use DFS to provide High availability of a data share in a domain to users?. I mean I have 2 file servers, one DFS main base and use DFS replicas to have the same file server share content in both servers so if server 1 goes down server 2 still provide access to the data to the users?

    • @NTFAQGuy
      @NTFAQGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes. that's the perfect use case!

    • @CsCreativeLearning
      @CsCreativeLearning 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      about cluster?

    • @CsCreativeLearning
      @CsCreativeLearning 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      is cluster is related to DFS?

    • @NTFAQGuy
      @NTFAQGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      not directly. DFS does nto require clustering. HA is provided by integrating with AD (typically) and having multiple targets to file servers. You can make the namespace server a cluster resource if you didn't want to AD integrate.
