I’m going to be very honest here. There is no “dark side” to K-pop. K-pop itself is dark. Every entertainment industry, be it American, Indian or Korean, is dark. There are so many things which go on behind the scenes, which we never really understand, and probably never will be able to unless we ourselves experience it.

It’s funny cause jin had been talking about these things, how other companies work for money but bighit works for army. Bts, enhypen and txt ( and the now added seventeen, Gfriend, and nu’est ) are probably the only idol groups getting paid fairly and treated fairly right now. I pray for the others
Umm, idk how to put this, but if you talk about the money distribution, even YGE is good. I'm saying that because I'm auditioning and I should know all that, their shares are 70% artists and 30% company, artists get more than the company and saying that only BigHit is good is kinda judging blindly because nobody knows what happens behind those closed doors and this for every agency in K-Pop.
@@Raiden_Ei._. You didn't know the issue about YG :> and Bighit too.. Part of not being able to find a job is due to not all trainees finishing Highschool, so finding a job when you haven't been in the workforce, may not have HS education, some jobs may not want someone who was in the public eye.... etc
...oh fainting....that's um scarily common, there are idol on stage fainting compilations. most of what trainees go through are mentally scarring. one that sticks with me is, quite a few companies have this thing where, if u arent under the weight limit they set between a certain amount of days or gained over the limit, u will be kicked out straight away. they put u on a weight machine infront of everyone and make trainees stand on it one by one. a few years ago was a case of The Eastlight members, all underaged, half of the group accused the ceo and staff for abuse...abuse such as tying guitar chords around their necks or pulling their hair and then threatening to hurt their familiar if they tell anyone. most trainees arent allowed phones and live in dorms where they arent able to see their parents for months, usually like twice a year for a few days
It's a shame. These kpop trainees deserve so much more. If they don't make it I wish the company would connect them with jobs so that they can at least have that to look forward to. It's just not fair.

Alot of idols/trainees go through of being mentally, sexually and physixally abused by their own staff or bosses especially from small companies. Yet alot of people say blackpink is getting mistreated. Mistreated and mismanage is two different things. I will tell you why keeping trainees for as long as ten years and not debuting them is cruel. These companies recruit young, talented kids as young as ten years of age. They train hard and focus on nothing else for the next few years. This kicks them out of the extremely competitive Korean education and employment race. Sometimes, companies would keep a trainee out of the current debut line and promise to include them in the next debut line, which could take anywhere between two to five years. Trainees have no option but to stick around and practice like crazy. Then, by the time they are around twenty, they are suddenly too old and undesirable, so either the company would ask them to leave, or they would voluntarily drop out. Twenty is such a young age but when a trainee gives up their hope at that age, they have nowhere to turn to. They don't have the same education or qualification as their peers and often find themselves doing nothing but part-time jobs for a livelihood. If a company thinks like a responsible team of adults, and straight-up tells their teenage trainees to give up, at least they can go back to school. By the time they're in their twenties, no other company wants them either. Treating a person as disposable merchandise is cruel. In any case, these young trainees enter the company because they have a dream. Companies monopolize on that determination and dedication while avoiding any accountability.
In Korea they go crazy about physical appearance, if you weight more than 50kg you're fat. I had a Korean teacher (I studied Korean in the University) and she was concerned because she had gained some weight while living here (I live in Dominican Republic), like 5 kg maybe, but she was SO skinny (like 110 pounds), and I told her that, and she said "that"was being fat there in Korea and that people would body shame her for being that "fat". She didn't wear makeup here either but she felt pressed to do it in her country because of the beauty standards even if she doesn't really like it. That's so awful honestly.

The girl who went to the internet for help I hope she’s ok and also it’s never that easy to leave a company bc they would have to pay off all the money they own from all the training
I don’t think you understood in the beggining what kind of sacrifice they were talking about... It is not like practicing a sport or studying for a job... Trainees can’t date, are restricted from contacting friends and family, can’t eat properly, can’t go out without permission, don’t have their own money...Ten years of that is completely insane to think about. I know it is their dream... But some companies are just too cruel, to the point it goes against basic human rights. Trainees become slaves.
I remember there was a show that followed this girl group. One of the members didn't lose enough by the time they had their weigh in, so in order to punish her they took the group for Korean BBQ. While everyone was enjoying their meal which was paid by the agency this one member was given literally a plate of lettuce only nothing else. The look on her face while nibbling on the leaf while everyone else is eating best cuts of beef and seafood etc and laughing as well. So fricken sick and disgusting behaviour.
