We need to boycott Microsoft, but any time anyone mentions that everyone’s like “how they’re too big?” Well not they are not, look at Budweiser and target, they lost billions due to the boycotts which are still continuing mind you, if Microsoft were to lose a few million or even a billion they wouldn’t care they’d keep doing what they’re doing, but if we kept up a boycott for long enough we could severely damage their income and they’d have to make a change, or Minecraft would simply be a massive hole in their pocket, I believe a profitable Minecraft is a dying Minecraft, so let’s make it not so profitable for them anymore, delete Minecraft make videos comment as much as possible and stop buying marketplace items and any new releases of any games or products related to Minecraft, we all love Minecraft but like a drug addicted family member, it needs some tough love before it falls deeper into its hole.

Minecraft has been making series’s on their TH-cam channel, and recently the last episode of their “Secrets of Minecraft” series, however there’s some stuff in the video that people have pointed out to be a bit suspicious. At the beginning of the video, a character named Jonathan is shown showing a feature that will “change Minecraft forever”. Afterwards, one of the two hosts of the show, who in the previous episode was shown the “future of Minecraft”, is trying to say what the feature is, and eventually reveals that they’re adding “Mobbo” to the game, who was a character that was originally shown in the “How we Make Minecraft” series, who’s whole point was that he defyed all of Mojang’s rules when adding a mob to the game. He says that it was a desperate attempt to boost sales, and that it will ruin the game forever. After the two hosts see Jonathan adding Mobbo to the game, the same host from before mentions that he “warned everyone about this two years ago.”
Many people in the comments see this video as a “cry of help” from Mojang, and that Jonathan represents Microsoft and Mobbo represents the chat reporting feature. This is further solidified by the fact that “two years ago” was also when the account migration was announced. I don’t have a specific view on this, nor do I think it's 100% true, it's just something I wanted to point out.

My biggest fear with the updates they seem to be peddling is that they’re going to try and phase out the ability to access older versions in Java. I’m a modded player and almost only play modded Minecraft. So with the marketplace in bedrock I’m really worried they’re gonna phase out the older versions so they can introduce a marketplace system and destroy the modding community. I have no doubts that Microsoft has influenced this idea, though. Their ultimate goal is to sterilize and corporatize the game. Since day 1 of the Microsoft acquisition, they've been planning to completely strip Minecraft of its indie game vibe, because an indie game just isn't good for corporate business. Sure, Mojang is implementing everything, but without a doubt what we're seeing now is the result of Microsoft executing their master plan.

Just because Mojang responded and said the feature was their fault doesn't actually mean it's true. But I do agree that putting it all on Microsoft ignores that almost definitely Mojang DID have at least some part to play in this feature and probably a bigger part than most are willing to admit it seems...

I remember playing Pocket Edition very soon after release, probably some time in 2011 or 2012. TNT didn't even work, survival wasn't in the game, and the creative inventory was like 1 page with barely any scroll. It was barebones, yet still enjoyable and incredibly nostalgic now. I haven't really touched it since Bedrock came out, things went downhill pretty fast even if the game got much more fleshed out. Likewise, I played Java since 2013, starting in 1.5. I've enjoyed the game off and on since then, but I stopped after the account migration and recent events only solidified this position. I wasn't terribly pleased with the new 1.18 music but a simple resource pack dealt with that. The more recent events are in a whole other category however. Minecraft has taken a serious and sudden change of course (well, mostly sudden, there were warning signs like the whole debacle about sharks and dolphins, mob votes, ditching C418 over licensing, and especially how they've treated Bugrock edition). Socialization, a core aspect of multiplayer, is now crippled. Java since the beginning was player-run, where Mojang put their trust in the players and the servers to moderate as they pleased. There were communities for everyone, some curated more than others, and it was up to players to chose and be mindful of their environment. The game has been fundamentally altered in a way that flies directly in the face of what it always stood for - a decentralized, player driven experience made up of various communities with various standards and various ways of experiencing the game. Mojang is now forcing their own moderation on everybody with little regard for nuance. Should there have been some sort of multiplayer moderation tool baked into the base game? Yes, of course. But it should have been server-side and optional, like most moderation tools already used, and not this monstrosity.
I take it you either don't care, or pretend that this will be a good system because it will ""protect"" people who were already protected by server moderation. Just to clarify, the "pointless warning popups" are actually about the serious log4j exploit that happened a while ago. Since the older versions of minecraft don't have a fix for the log4j exploit, the only way to stop the log4j exploit on older versions is for the owners of the server you are on to launch the server using a line of code that looks something like this: "NoFormatMsgLookups=true" I'm pretty sure this is the only time people really used this for fixing that exploit. This applies to not only minecraft, but things like large social companies like discord. I'm reasonable sure that most of the companies fixed this by now, but since mojang doesn't want to go through each and every version of minecraft available to players and adding a fix to the apache log4j issue, they just made that warning. I think that this is kinda lazy of mojang to basically give away thousands of accounts to malicious coders because they couldn't just put that code into each and every version of minecraft.
That last part about mojang being lazy is not fully backed up, but I have my sources on the rest of those things

Even then, it is still possible to decompile and mod Bedrock, although way harder due to DRM.

Genuinely, I think my biggest problem with the game as it stands now, is that it doesn't have the same atmosphere that it did before, sure some of this may be due to getting older, but I feel like a lot of the magic the game orignally had: "the fear of the night, the prolonged midgame, the fun playing basic but unique maps, has ben all but lost. And (like I said) some of this is definately me getting older, but at the same time it seems like microsoft wants to comlpetely burry that part of minecraft's history, they want to completely change the textures, add more endgame content to make people even more overpowered and less afraid of the night, etc. A large part of the fun that I had orignally with minecraft was the process of going from naked dude in the middle of the woods to owner of a castle, but it seems like that process has been completly overwritten in newer versions, now you can just walk into a village and get basic iron tools, then find a shipwreak and start getting diamonds. A lot of the progression and the work that you do while progessing was taken away, which is fun for some people but it basically leaves me trying to find "vanilla" modpacks that make the game harder and playing the older versions.

To me, Minecraft is more about collecting resources building things to your liking, than surviving any danger. I appreciate quality of life things in the late game, though it would be nice if there were more features for our early, game loving friends, like a revamp of difficulty.

@@miimiiandco yeah, I think that's the big thing about Minecraft, it caters in some way to everyone, or at least it's meant to. What I may not like about the game is exactly what someone else might love about it. But there is one design philosophy that I've noticed more recently Minecraft has drifted away from, that I believe will improve the fun on both sides of the coin. Balance, a lot of the game has more recently been focused on an almost power trip style gameplay loop where the options open to the player allow them to conquer the world and be safe from any reasonable danger in mere minutes. That's not to say that danger is the most important element of Minecraft, I still do believe that the most integral aspect is the building and the taming of the world, but when that task is so easy to complete that the main problem facing me every time I play is where I'm going to put ultra megabase 3006; I think there is a problem. The achievements made in Minecraft feel much more real (at least to me) when they were hard won achievements, I don't have fun playing a game where everything is handed to me I enjoy carving out my niche in a world through my own work. And maybe we differ in that thought process, but that's why there are multiple difficulty options. Essentially all this is to say, I agree with you, there needs to be some rework of difficulty, and It can't just be giving zombies some more health and power, it has to be a real tangible effect that forces you to change how you approach the game.

My argument was that the fall of Minecraft is the loss of "hard won" battles, essentially that the midgame and early game content is being ignored in favor of late game content. That favoritism (at least to me) makes the late game feel cheap and unsatisfying. And because of the small amount of content being added specifically for the midgame and early game, just not going to shipwrecks is like a band-aid on an amputation it doesnt fix the fundemental problem, that after a while going through the same motions over and over again starts to get boring.

I just can't play new versions of the game: they feel soulless and more corporate, especially since the 1.14 retexture and replacement of C418 with new composers. To my mind the community created much better versions of the game with mods on such versions as 1.7.10, but when I'm trying to point this out, people are just yelling at me "ACCEPT THE CHANGES!" or "MODDED OLDER VERSIONS ARE RUINING MINECRAFT!"

I think a big part of the controversy, besides alarmism, is because Minecraft has exhibited classic corporate stubbornness and telling fans with suggestions to improve player protection systems that their ideas will never be implemented, and even small private servers with mods or plugins to disable chat report that their existence is considered illicit now. It’s perfectly possible to go have both child safety features and have players enjoy the game without fearing a wrongful banhammer, but for whatever reason the company just does not want to do that.

I've been playing bedrock for years now and I've always identified myself as a small redstone builder.
The biggest problem I've seen with bedrock so far is that redstone in a greater scale is almost impossible to make. It isn't as simplistic as in java because of the programming. Slime elevators, huge piston doors or complex circuits for chronometers, calculators and others are just unimaginable. It's also really difficult to make compact circuits.

    • @DMack6464

At the time I was a poor student and I pirated most of my games, so me giving money was a huge deal. Now Notch has sold the game to Microsoft, and Microsoft has taken away my ability to play the game I paid for, unless I migrate my account. If they really were innocent, they would've made at the very least a bit more of an uproar, and they wouldn't have outright ignored us for the past week or so. On top of that, there has been a definitive whistleblow that someone within the minecraft community has been in kahoots with Mojang and has used their position of power to force this change. Unfortunately, the person that pointed this out has aided them in their escape by not telling us who they are. If it is a single person behind this change, then this is one of the few times a witch-hunt would be an appropiate reaction.

I stated this in the comments of another video talking about this topic, and I'll state it again:
"Another case of what happens when you let a multi-billion dollar company take over a popular franchise, they let their own greed and carelessness overtake the needs of the fans, and if you disagree with it, too bad, you are just money to them, voiceless, obedient money, and if you leave them, who among them cares? They can just get another sap to join in your place. Its a sad, but inevitable cycle. If a franchise gets too popular, either they stop caring about their fans, or a cold, soulless company swoops in and ruins it. I think the saying "Icarus flew too close to the sun" fits in pretty well with what I have said here, they get too popular, let fame go to their heads, and then begin ruining everything they worked up to with reckless choices, like selling out, or ignoring the fans' needs."

    1. Don't use chat
    2. Use the No Chat Reports mod and pray the server you try to connect to won't enforce secure chat (which servers have it default to true, but then again no one likes chat reporting in the first place)

When Notch left, Microsoft took control, this led to minecraft's downward spiral, Microsoft, in their infinite shittieness, used mojang as a puppet to try to avoid the legal ramifications of their actions, the fact that they don't cancel realms subscriptions, is illegal, as far as I am aware. I knew I made a purchase for the full game before Microsoft took over!!! & now I know why!
So Java is the original version on Minecraft I paid for, I thought it was Bedrock, now I know. ( they really threw me off with creating Bedrock & it’s in-game purchasing, thank god I haven’t paid a penny for Bedrock! )
I was hoping to finally get back into the game learning you could have one if you already had the other… now I don’t want to touch anything until this crap rolls over… rats!

Is it the end? For some people--yes. As the loss of being able to say what you'd like (within 3rd party terms of services) is extremely disheartening to see completely innocent players who should not be banned being banned for saying swear words or even in a server that can be labeled as 18+ players can still get in trouble with swear words if reported by players. The whole system should not exist as other alternatives were completely sufficient for what they were capable of preventing younger children seeing chat or again, just not giving them internet on their computer or phone/tablet any server directly owned by Microsoft if they wanted no swear words, completely fine (If it's their own server not the whole game) Server's have been around for decades and have created literally thousands of chat filters and other preventable cheats and hacks as to keep the game fun and fair. Microsoft is turning the whole game into a younger audience authoritarian video game only letting younger audiences to actually enjoy the game.

Yes. This is not the end for Minecraft as a whole, but it's the end of Minecraft in the eyes of many people.

The things is Mojang themselves said on twitter that they were responsible for this update, as much as I would love to believe that this is all Microsoft's fault (and I'm sure it at least partially is) Mojang at the very least agrees with Microsoft and that alone is enough to convince me that Mojang isn't as trustworthy as we want to believe they are.

Have you considered that Microsoft forced them to say it on Twitter?
I've been getting a lot of comments about how it's mojangs fault because of that, but IMO we need more evidence that a twitter comment from one or two devs

@@RandomSageless I have considered this, although it is certainly a possibility I myself would need to see evidence that this was the most likely scenario. Why would Mojang lie? I admit I am not well educated on Microsoft's past dealings with other game studios and such. However, even so I simply cannot see them going this far just to cover up they're involvement and avoid some heat from a community they don't really care about in the first place. Lets assume for a moment they did force Mojang to add this feature, why not admit it? They're a multi-billion dollar corporation, what do they have to lose if the little Minecraft java community (who don't even make them money) are mad at them for some stupid little edition to the game they believe will make them even more money, it's not like its illegal for them to force Mojang to do this, and it would keep the community from distrusting the face of Minecraft's development, at least to some degree. It simply doesn't make sense. Yet here we are with Mojang admitting that they wanted this feature. Perhaps I'm missing something crucial here but from what I can see this is most likely Mojang's fault.
If it does end up turning out that Mojang has been forced by Microsoft to say and do these things then my heart goes out to them, but again I just don't believe that this is the case. :(

I saw the writing on the wall a long time ago. I'am now fully on Linux with a MultiMC.
Not only that, both java and the laucher as well as the base jar-files are 100% portable.
They are also fully blocked from any net access. This means I can play anything
from 1.16.5 and lower. But not anything newer. But thanks to a HUGE library of mod-packs
I have more content than Minecraft will ever see under my life time. I have modpacks which
fixes most outstanding bugs. There are even mods that backports newer content backwards.
I even have vibrant retro and classic packs. Surprisingly many of the are better than the newer versions.
Sure, no multiplayer. But that is not a big loss for me.
I'm now immune to whaterver M$ cooks up in the future.
Account migration is totally out of the question.
In fact they can do what ever they want.
I do not care since they can not touch me in any way.
I feel sad for others however. I also feel sad about it all coming to this.
But there is nothing I can do about that.
But 'Minetest' is developing nicely and there is 'Vintage Story too'.
Selling Mojang to M$ was a enormous misstake.
But I have learned one thing: Open source; independence from commersial indifference,
    is a much better alternative.
Slower yes, but also free. Free as in free to develop outside of corporate bias.
This goes for OS'es and regular applications too.
As long as one single person is interested the band keeps marching on.
    Think about that!

Leaving your children in the hands of corporations isn't a danger to Minecraft, but a danger to society as a whole. And if you think I'm wrong, then tell me what's so great about loot boxes and pay-to-win games in the hands of children. This is the tried and true argument that he who sacrifices freedom for security will receive neither.
