    Hi Kenny, I've went down this rabbit hole before so thanks for showcasing this.
    Your method only has one drawback and that's a split second during switching you will have no armed tracks and therefore you will always hear the switching process.
    I wanted a seamless transition and after a few hours of checking out actions I finally used SWS Extensions and snapshots as it's a much easier way. I arm all tracks and create snapshots with individual tracks solo'd. It's perfect for live scenarios because it doesn't matter that all tracks are armed at the same time.

    • @REAPERMania
      @REAPERMania  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cool tip.

    • @markcline700
      @markcline700 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you mind fleshing that out a bit. I'm trying to figure it out, but it looks like "Exclusive Solo" is what would clear the current solo, and I don't see an SWS or other action for that. I see what you're saying, and low latency patch switching is what I would want. I must be missing something. Thanks!

    • @DDB2020
      @DDB2020 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leave them all armed and mute the ones you don’t wanna hear. Toggling mute is faster than toggling record

    • @markcline700
      @markcline700 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DDB2020 I'm thinking about a live application, so I need an "exclusive or" action where selecting one track deselects the previous with minimum possible gap between the sounds. I just need a couple hours to nerd about with it. Luckily I only gotta make it work once and then save a template.

    • @ayeapprove
      @ayeapprove ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@markcline700 the trick is to use sws snapshots (it literally saves the state of solo'd tracks) and the action recall snapshot. Let me know if you need a video tutorial for this!

    I love your videos and I find them very useful and I'm grateful that you make these, but as a 100% constructive comment: The first 3:30 minutes explaining what each track is were completelly unnecessary. I think when people come to this video already understand that the purpose is to "swap presets", no need to see what you have in each track, it's pointless. But anyway your content is gold! Grateful that you're teaching all this. Keep rocking

      @@REAPERMania Good point. Now that I think about it I use snapshots within my plugins (Helix Native) during a song, and then only switch active tracks between songs. I was actually going to ,make that video next. Put the plugin "VST: MIDItoReaContro|Path (S&M)" on a new track. Now any MIDI played from that track will trigger actions that you set up to be triggered thru MIDI. It's actually what I used in this video to mimic a footswitch.

    I am too lazy to watch through the whole video. I've watched it fragmentarily and if I am cought it right the guy can switch between different tracks using footswitch on the fly while recording. Am I right? Or the guy can't change tracks on the fly but just making stop-motions change the tracks manually though switching the footswitch pedually? Is it a virtual footswitch or what? Oh, I am dumb!

  • @Groovvy81

    why not set the guitar tracks to "Automatic record arm when track selected" and set you footswitch to the action select track 1, select track 2 etc. That way you can have a friend playing a bass or another guitar by setting his track on record.

    @monteself6826 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well it's cool but not what I was thinking I have a Helix and can set a channel that will record to change my patch in a live setting, my issue is it won't record the "Switching" or "Snapshots" when I need to change like from clean to lead sound or other effects, I have to use a "template track" that is setup to record the main patch, but when I need it to switch O have to manually edit in "69 hold 2 Pedal" then adjust like "automation" to which effect I need 0-7 (0-4 I only use because I have the to middle 4 switches assigned to Patching by Song Name and bottom 4 assigned to Snapshots. It can be a pain to get these adjusted to the proper number patch because very little movement will even skip. I just don't know why Reaper isn't recording those switches for me. maybe you or someone has the answer to that.

      @@ophic I have a couple Panasonic cameras, and they use a 2.5mm TRRS connector, but there are electronics in the remote shutters, so I don't think it's as simple as a typical amp footswitch. In any case, the bigger problem is the strange fact that camera manufacturers and much of the video recording/editing market don't seem to have realized MIDI isn't just useful for audio.
