The Lexus LX450 is a Landcruiser except with the LX badge.
In 1996 and 1997, this was the first time Lexus adorned it's badge onto the Landcruiser series.
It had minimal changes to it, including a upgraded sound system, Lower cladding and some wood trim appointments. Otherwise a Land Cruiser at heart.
Lexus really was testing the market for a SUV with plush extras. And it scored!
The LX matched or out sold the Land Cruiser with the LX470 and LX570, to the point where Toyota decided to discontinue the Land Cruiser in the US in 2022 (no 300 series) and just keep to the LX570.
Although, the Land Cruiser starts out slightly cheaper, but always retains a higher value years later in the used market. Partly because Land Cruiser owners keep their vehicles an average 12 years! Seems Lexus is mostly leased for 3-5 years by the first owner, then turned in back to Lexus inventory for resale.
The LX470 and LX570 took on more distinctive changes with different head lights, taillights and completely different dashboards and cabin materials.
Hopefully Toyota comes back to their senses and releases the Iconic Land Cruiser back into the US market in a few years. SInce they were down to about 3000 units sold per year, perhaps they figure we need to miss them for awhile, and beg them to come back!
My feeling is they will take a page out of the Ford Bronco playbook, and release several models spanning a large price spectrum, as there is a huge offroad market in the US, and now the biggest worldwide name for true 4x4 off road and overlanding, is out of the market.
