I thought the track lighting looked a lot better with RT on (I don't care about reflections when I'm racing, generally. Nice to have for replays I guess.)
Wow, the headlights in the trees at night, that looks super good, the projected shadow of the car in front looks fully real time, and the local shadowing in the tree foliage maintains a very compelling look!

You needed to try a night race at a track like Tokyo Expressway to really see the ray traced reflections. Not sure if what I’ve seen so far wpuld let me justify an upgrade, but I’m still thinking hard about it, though. Glad you’re enjoying it, Rory! 👍
Wheel sim racers will love the amazing feel of 120fps locked. Controller gamers won't notice and can use ray tracing as a rear view mirror while flying on the magic carpet behind the car.

For ray tracing, if you want to see the difference go to track (Nordschleife ex) in dawn or twilight or some nighttime racing on rain. Play around with the setting, try it with and without. The asphalt reflections are much better and more atmospheric plus the light reflection on the trees and signs is more immersive, also on the cars in front too. It makes much more immersive/moodier even though at a lover frame rate. Also, for PSSR and performance mode, the rain spray looks terrible, especially in Tokyo at night, it is a complete mess, but PSSR is an AI tech that will be updated so I hope they resolve this.
I think the frame rate is for playing and the ray tracing is for replays. Having watched both yours and Soarks’ videos, I feel this is the best way to utilise the new PS5 Pro to its maximum. Thanks Rory for getting this to us on the patch day!!
If you really want to test and check the ray tracing go to one of the Tokyo street circuits at night in the rain. You will definitely see the differences there, also especially in cockpit view.
So I have tried various modes and I now know for a fact GT7 looks its best with PSSR off at 120fps. I am gaming on a late Sony 4K TV and the image is near perfect. It’s the most stable image as a whole, on my TV. Perhaps some people are seeing different results due to their setup. Overall I am really happy.
Came looking for your stream earlier today to see how the Pro upgrade is, so I appreciate the tests. I think the ray-tracing only affects the hood of the car, I couldn't see to much in the reflections off the other cars. Hopefully they'll release GT7 for the PC, then I can ignore the Pro. If not, I may end up upgrading.
You dont need 120fps in racing games, especially well made racing games! More frames are only needed imo if there is quick movements across the screen ALL the time, Games like call of duty etc need frames for the quick movements needed to play the game as intented, And if you are a content creator then i would say image quality should be a priority, for the viewing experience!
First of wll it matter alot for the frames alone because of the fast movement, 2cnd the input delay is significantly reduced and that alone is a game changer night and day difference, instant response.
@Sideways_Singh first of all No...F1 pro's turn there fps down to 59fps, And I'm sure you know F1 cars are faster than 99% of the cars in GT7, Input delay is mostly down to the equipment we use, and settings within the game etc.. yes I agree we get more input delay at a lower fps, but it's unmeasurable by the human eye..or feeling!
Didnt see anyone commenting this so I'll bring it up: Does the steering feel any different with 120hz? There's pf course a difference when you talk about the monitor's refresh rate and the actual frames per second on the console running the game. If it's 120hz but locked to 60fps it doesn't feel any different. But if it's also 120fps it should feel much more responsive which improves the driving experience a lot.
I think the image is better on 60hz than 120hz and I think 60hz is enough for a racing game like gran turismo. But fps games 120hz 100% but to add I did see slightly more sharpness and textures with better shadows ect
Omg. It's doing g on yours too thank God it's not just me but I'm still missed. Now you see. You'll never unsee till they fix it.....if you look to the left at very start on the bleachers....you can see the lighting trying to catch up. Like wtf is really going on...I'm furious and it's not okay.
@@M7ikey7 yes... having to choose between performance in fidelity in most games is awful... most of the time there is huge drawbacks no matter which one u choose. with the pro that is no longer a thing
Choice of circuit probably wasn't the best for testing the ray-tracing. In that kind of harsh midday light you're not going to see the best of ray-tracing. Try testing it in the wet.
You will just adapt to VR if you just keep at it. Avoid hilly tracks initially, flat tracks are less nauseating until you adapt. I only ever drive in VR with wheel seat and pedals, so much so I just can’t drive fast without it now. I also play mostly VR games like shooters and Zombie games. Next level 👍
It should be running at native 4k with ray tracing at 110-120fps with vrr enabled. Turn off pssr because if ur good & competitive u get 2ms less input delay, n its a cleaner image with it off. U might be nerfing ur graphics for no reason hit the green button on the lg remote 7 times and see what fps ur at with ray trace on and 120 fps vrr enabled. On the base console it was able to do native 4k at 100-120 fps only if u have a vrr tv and enable it in ps5 and gt7 settings, so it should be doing that with ray tracing plus some more fps easily.
You silly silly man, checking ray tracing in the middle of the day. Rain and night might give you a bit better understanding on how the reflections have changed. 😆
Do we think there’s ever gonna be an update that gives the option to remove the wheel in cockpit view? It’s been a standard in games for 20yrs . Personally I just can’t properly love a driving game unless I’m fully immersed and feel that I’m actually driving the car I’m in. The wheel moving makes me dizzy. And I really want to love GT7. Please note, I've focused only on GT7 and the PS5 Pro - beyond racing there is plenty of additional value to be had in a PS5 Pro but I'm considering that as out of scope as this is a channel built around GT7. For the past few months I've been grinding to earn credits (PP700 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit and using the McLaren 650s) to bulk up my collection. I feel like I know this track like the back of my hand at this point and this track is a pretty good test imho as it includes long straights with foliage and dynamic weather. My display is an LG G1 77" which is wall mounted and I get all the goodies, including native 4k, 120hz, HDR, VRR. My rig is horizontally centered on it and I'm approx 5' back from it and my head is nominally vertically centered so the screen is quite large in my field of view. My gaming room is also kept dim and has no glare or sunlight hitting my display. Running in optimized for quality, with PSSR off and 120hz enabled, the hidden menu on my panel shows a very solid 117 to 119.8hz refresh rate while racing even when surrounded by cars, etc. It's slightly less stable with PSSR on from what I can see but still usually in the 118hz range. On the long back stretch (where the two chicanes are), screen draw distance is significantly farther than the PS5. I do think that PSSR chunks up finer details on cars, The Porsche logo script (black on a yellow car) is less defined and a Mazda which has a logo with two white circles in the center of the rear with 4 dots surrounding it has some pretty interesting pop up details that I hadn't noticed previously on my old PS5. The thing with the Mazda happens with PSSR on or off although I think it's a bit MORE noticeable with PSSR set to off. The game looks significantly sharper than the PS5 ever did. My lap times are the same, and I don't feel any lag regardless of setting. I also have a PSVR2 and while I really don't spend a lot of time in it, but I did run a couple races today in VR today as well with the projection settings on/off. Overall, the VR experience IS improved over the PS5 but is still slower than my panel which I think is to be expected. As I'm not a regular PSVR2 user, I don't think I'm qualified to say how much of an improvement it is (I still prefer my LG display). Ultimately the PS5 Pro is just like anything in the performance world. Chasing the last 10% costs a lot more than the first 90%. If you want the best most immersive GT7 experience possible, the PS5 Pro is going to provide it but be honest with yourself about the rest of your equipment before pulling the trigger on one if your on the fence. If your vision is OK but could be better with corrective lenses FIX THAT before anything else. If you have a low end wheel or pedals, wobbly sim chassis, etc. I'd suggest researching and upgrading those before a PS5 Pro if you have the funds. If your still rocking a 60hz panel, I'd highly recommend in investing in a quality 120hz or greater capable panel (and if you have a receiver in between make sure it's HDMI 2.1 capable) and proper cabling. The items above might shave time off your laps and will add deeper immersion. If you already have all that stuff, and want the best, sharpest GT7 experience, then a PS5 Pro is a must.
Umm. No...thr lighting is still trying to catch up on the left of every track I've been on. So wtf is it really doing here. I'm a Lil pissed that I even bought ps5 pro
-According to an MIT study, the human eye has a limit to ~75 FPS and I have less-than-ideal vision. -8K? Maybe when I can afford a 30' television -Ray-Tracing is a gimmick foisted upon us by Nvidia to justify new generations of video cards. Nice when you zoom in to 4000%, but realistically useless while gaming. Choose rasterization. TL/DR: I'm keeping the extra $250 in my pocket.
If the ps pro came with a disk drive it still wouldn't even be worth it but it would very slightly add to it. I think it's an absolute embarrassment that it doesn't come with a disk drive.

Nobody is gonne fully read this
@ yep. I know. Out of curiosity did you?
The sarcasm is top notch .
Umm. No...thr lighting is still trying to catch up on the left of every track I've been on. So wtf is it really doing here. I'm a Lil pissed that I even bought ps5 pro
I thought Mr Tracing comes over to your place for a cuppa... Say hi to Ray for me!
6:53 : why don’t you also activate the VRR ??? 😂😂😂 the 120Hz Will not help at all if you do not active the vrr …
Was really hoping for some new tracks.
Great video. Thanks
How does the ray tracing go in the rain?
Try gestikt ray tracing in the rain
Sony charged everyone £700 for an upscaler.
funny thing is we have to believe you as we are watching it on laptops and phones :D
New Menu Books....there is one!
Looks amazing all I have to do now is sell a kidney to get started ❤
-According to an MIT study, the human eye has a limit to ~75 FPS and I have less-than-ideal vision.
-8K? Maybe when I can afford a 30' television
-Ray-Tracing is a gimmick foisted upon us by Nvidia to justify new generations of video cards. Nice when you zoom in to 4000%, but realistically useless while gaming. Choose rasterization.
TL/DR: I'm keeping the extra $250 in my pocket.
does graphics on og ps5 stay the exact same with new update?
I honestly don't understand why everyone is using the horrible earplugs for PSVR2. They're not needed. Why aren't you using your normal headset?
If the ps pro came with a disk drive it still wouldn't even be worth it but it would very slightly add to it. I think it's an absolute embarrassment that it doesn't come with a disk drive.
