Thank you for this. I’m just beginning my research into book keeping business and I feel like I’ll finally get someone interested and then I’ll freeze like ok what’s next? 😂
Thank you for this video! I'm currently trying to on board my first client and she wants payroll only for the 2 employees in her cleaning company. This video helped a lot as I was wondering if I was asking the right questions and totally overthinking everything. She does want to go back to May of this year to make payroll deductions and remit them to CRA (I'm in Canada) so I know there is going to be extra work in the first month for sure.
Thank for you this video! Very informative and answered a lot of my questions. I was wondering for a video idea if you can make a video about the most commons issues you face when first on-boarding a client? As far updating messy Chart of Accounts or when personal expenses are mixed up with business expenses. Just want to get an idea if possible. Thank you!
Kindly share websites from where new bookkeepers can get clients and can learn accounting softwares for free.i suggest also make videos on how to use accounting softwares . By the way your videos are awsme full of knowledge based on real experience. Gud luck keep it up!!
Hi your videos are full of knowledge. I would like to suggest you that make a video regarding websites from where new/fresh bookkeepers can get clients .
How do you handle billing for time spent on phone calls, etc to get everything up and running? Is it all billable hours from the time they sign the contract? I have really learned a lot from your videos so far. Many thanks!
Hi Morgan, question on setting up a bookkeeping client into QuickBooks: how do you enter the client's history into your QB system? Is that even relevant?
Great information! Thanks for all of your Bookkeeping Videos. They are really inspiring. I'm interested to Start the business. The thing is I'm currently living in UAE. Do you think it's possible for me to find prospects from US without meeting them face to face?
Hi How to add a client to quickbooks that had a bookkeeper and have last year financial statements? Do i use journal entries for opening balances or there’s a way on QB as opening balances in the chart of account.
Hello! I'm interested in the signing of contracts video you talked about making. How they sign electronically and how can you make that secure? Also, you mentioned not accepting clients that are too small. How do you determine if they are too small and too big? Thanks!
Hi Tony! Here is a video where Morgan talks about bookkeeper contracts: th-cam.com/video/654O4AF2vR8/w-d-xo.html And here is a link to a sample contract Morgan shares in the video: legaltemplates.net/form/independent-contractor-agreement/ Krista (FinePoints Admin)
Is it possible to start out JUST doing one or two things for a company in QBO (like maybe just doing the payroll, or just doing bill pay, or just doing some of kind of data entry)?
Yes, that is defiantly possible. Check out this video where Morgan talks about the #1 service to offer as a new bookkeeper (th-cam.com/video/rgaiu88Q_Fo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oXhb1c0cxNHUdPhd) Krista (FinePoints Admin)
Hi Morgan! This video was super helpful! I was wondering what information you usually ask for when you email your client after that initial call? I'm not sure what documentation I would need aside from their QBO access?
Here's a video Morgan did on client interviews (in the description is a free download for client questions to ask): th-cam.com/video/nE4Mty6MDVE/w-d-xo.html -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
Do you have a video of the whole process in Quickbools of settling up for a legal practice, onboarding clients, attorneys, managing their cases up to the point where the attorney gets their commission
Hey! It doesn't walk through all of those process, but Morgan does have a video on bookkeeping for attorney's that you might be interested in if you haven't seen it already: th-cam.com/video/7N3Z7nAFtfI/w-d-xo.html Krista (FinePoints Admin)
If the client has you keeping their books quarterly: When does the quarter start and stop? Do you still make them pay you for their monthly QB subscription if you have included their QB fees into your pricing system? If not, do you just pay their monthly fee and cough it up to your quarterly expected payment?
many times quarterly can depend on when they need to pay quarterly taxes, so checking their state for that information could be helpful. If Morgan includes the QB fees into the pricing structure, then she pays the monthly fee. This goes under her own business' bookkeeping expenses. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
You can definitely do that if you'd like! It's professional to have some place to sent potential clients to in order to learn about your pricing and packages, though sometimes pricing will depend on what all you do for that specific client or how large that client's business is. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
How do you handle a client who has merchant accounts and consistently doesn’t pay the statement ending balance ? I took on a new client who needed all of 2021 reconciled; however he has !6 CREDIT CARD ACCOUNTS! where he pays throughout the month whatever dollar figure he wants. I have been placing the overpayment in prepaid and then removing it the next month; however, he has had all 6 merchant accounts since before 2021 so the prepaid balance does not match the difference in overpayments on the credit card statements. I’m overwhelmed !
Hi there! I’m not sure if you are going to talk about this next, but when on boarding a client, are you automatically a contracted employee needing a 1099? Or is there an option for you to just be like a service with no 1099? Thank you!
Hi Morgan, great job on the videos!! You're inspiring a lot of people to start their bookkeeping businesses on here and that's an admirable thing! Question: how about a video explaining how clients are "offboarded"; i.e. if you decide you don't want to work with an existing client anymore for whatever reason. What's the process of handing the keys to QB back to the client? How does that typically work? Are you 'de-invited' somehow? It's maybe not as popular a concept as that of 'onboarding' a client, but still has to happen pretty typically in a day in the life of a bookkeeper. Maybe I'm making it too complicated but I'd just like to know, and others may as well. Keep up the great job on the videos!

Thanks for the info. I have been researching bookeeping as a side hustle, and find your videos to be very informative. My question is how you learned bookeeping, did you do a course online or take a class? I am having so much trouble because all i find are courses that cost thousands of dollars and i cannot afford to do. I also haven’t had much luck finding a bookeeping class in community colleges, they usually have classes for accounting degrees but not just for bookeeping. What would you suggest i can do that is not so expensive but that can teach me bookeeping.
Hi Sandy, thanks for watching my videos! Hopefully you can find some advice here as you're deciding which direction to go. I recommend becoming a QuickBooks ProAdvisor as the first step.
