What are some of your goals for the year? If you're hoping to grow your business, my bookkeeper marketing class may help: finepoints.newzenler.com/courses/bookkeeper-marketing-coach
Not only are you a successful bookkeeper, your TH-cam channel is amazing too!!!! Always glad to see a new video post. You are such a wealth of information!! Thank you, Morgan!!
Loved this! I really love your videos and this one was helpful and inspiring! And I love your cozy entrepreneur mentality and approach as well. That one helped me so much too! Thanks for all you do and for all of your wonderful videos, Morgan! 😊
This is so helpful! I didn’t think of breaking it down this way and it is very realistic. Our youngest is going to school this year and I’ll be able to work on my bookkeeping business full time and expend. Right now, I’m at my max and basically can’t take on any more clients but not for too long 😊.
I feel this is a realistic goal, and I really like the spreadsheet. However, clients can leave if they close their business. And as you said, when cleanups are involved (and they usually are) you can definitely make some decent money doing cleanups. So I agree that hitting $90,000 a year is obtainable. Great video!!
Another great video as usual😊 I've had my own small businesses in the past. And have done some of the bookkeeping , but yet i'm not comfortable knowing what steps and reports to give clients. I've loved this five year plan because I hope to retire in about seven years and this would be a great additional income. If you could point me in the right direction on where I should go to start that would be great
Yes, I love that you want to start now, for your goal in 7 years! QuickBooks Online has a lot of free training, mainly about QBO, but also likely talks about reports. Do you know about the free ProAdvisor certification? Search that on my channel, and you can also check my description box for more resources. Maybe try my list of bookkeeper training options. I have about 13 sets of books now as part time. I am right at the cusp of taking it full time. This is my turning point year! Have to replace my full time salary to make it work.
What kind of client would be for $900-$1,000? I feel like a larger business usually has an accounting department at that point or someone an employee on staff.
Yes, this is a good point. I do think those businesses are out there--likely earning 1-5million in gross revenue. But, just because they earn more, doesn't necessarily predict the amount of staff. Some businesses will just be really complex and require more time-intensive bookkeeping... maybe: sending many invoices per month and applying payments, more complex payroll and benefits, tracking classes and pulling specific reports, lots of accounts (on a FB group someone said they had a client with 11 bank/credit cards, whew), or some places give employees credit cards that need to be reconciled to the parent account. In theory, a bookkeeper will be cheaper for them than an accounting department. You're right that these businesses are harder to find, but hopefully there is a spot for a good bookkeeper in their org chart. :)
What are your opinions on someone starting a Bookkeeping business fresh out of bookkeeping school? I have no other background in finance/accountancy other than the bookkeeping course I took, which was a lot like Accountancy 101. I also became QBO certified. Do I need to work for another company/established bookkeeper for a year or two before branching out, or can I start right out of the gate? Ideally I'd like to work for another company/bookkeeper to start so I have a mentor of sorts, in the business, but it's proving difficult to find people that will hire someone with no practical experience.
It’s so beneficial to work for a CPA firm first to get experience. They have set systems that work so well and you learn so much. I feel like if I didn’t have experience, it would be extremely overwhelming to learn everything myself.
Good question! It will depend on your personality and goals. My style is to go for it, start small, and learn as you go. I have a video that talk about that topic here: th-cam.com/video/j9cmEOKylIc/w-d-xo.html
Hi! Thanks for watching! What are you wondering specifically, how to start a bookkeeping business? Here's a video with more info about that: th-cam.com/video/QP6O6Qj6bCA/w-d-xo.html

I've been there! It's such a game-changer when kids are in school for a chunk of the day. :)
I love this, because this is realistic.
I'm glad you think so!
