- When grieving widowers came together to share their losses, they gained tools to help them do they unimaginable: reimagine lives without their wives. This compelling talk highlights research by Dr. Justin Yopp and Dr. Donald Rosenstein and their work with a group of grieving fathers. If you know someone who is grieving, has grieved, or will grieve, this talk is for you. As a Raleigh native and Clinical Psychologist & Associate Professor at UNC Chapel Hill, Justin Yopp, PhD focuses his research on how to best support grieving families.
As a member of UNC’s Comprehensive Cancer Support Program, Dr. Yopp offers psychotherapy, assessment, and consult-liaison services for both pediatric oncology and adult oncology populations at the N.C. Cancer Hospital.
Dr. Yopp also co-leads the Widowed Parent Program, which offers support groups for parents who have lost a spouse or partner and are raising children on their own and conducts research to support grieving families. Last year, he co-authored The Group: Seven Widowed Fathers Reimagine Life (Oxford Press), which weaves together contemporary thinking on grief, adaptation and resiliency with the true story of the men from their rst support group. Prior to joining the faculty at UNC, Dr. Yopp served as a psychologist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dr. Yopp lives with his amazing wife, Colleen, and his awesome son, Gavin. His daughter, Chloe, is a sophomore at UNC and despite raising her as a Wolfpacker, her father is very proud of her as well.

Beautiful and riveting talk. Thank you so much - what a gift for anyone in grief.
Lost my wife 11 months ago. Thank you for posting this.
Love how you told many stories AND boiled your talk down to three useful guidelines to follow when you're suffering a great loss.
Thank you for this talk - valuable for anyone feeling "stuck" and looking to move forward. Well done.
Wonderful!!! So happy such a talk exists. I plan to share with everyone I know.
I lost my wife to cancer in 1989
She was only 31 and my kids were only 9 and 6
I sure wish I had found a group like this
After watching the whole video I thought this was a wonderful talk he gave
Thank you
What an incredible talk. And if you think this is good, check out their book!
This is tremendous - really nails it.
I lost my wife in 2019 in a motorcycle accident. I am a single dad of 4 special needs children all of which are on the Autism Spectrum. The youngest of which is severely autistic. Where can I find a support group like this?
My wife succumbed to COVID-19. She could never bear children.
My road still ended on Feb. 27. 2021.
I am sorry for your loss Allen
@@mikearec1982 Thank you.
I iwas in my drive and came across a 7 second surprise. Joy, my wife spoke "I love you," into a recording and left it for me to find. Hearing her voice saying those words...
Allen, I am so sorry for your loss. I totally feel your pain. I lost my wife, best friend and soul mate of 29 years to Covid on August 31st, 2021. My God I miss my sweet beautiful angel! I lost my heart and soul on that day.
I am so truly sorry Allan. I just lost my husband and I feel like my life's road just went off of a cliff. Many hugs for you.
@@darrelljones3382 I am so sorry for your loss too. I am sharing in that horrific pain as well. Lost my husband, best friend, and soulmate this summer. I also feel like my heart and soul died on the day he died. There is no pain like it. Just wanted to give my deepest condolences.
