Wow at first, I thought that Ooshima could be the winner, he is a very active fighter but the experience of Nakamura and his expertise in bjj were very decisive. Nice fight great fighters both

Nakamura was hit with many head kicks and leg kicks but the effects were mitigated by the protective equipment. There was nothing to mitigate an armbar. I don't think that's fair reflection of who'd win an mma match.

MMA guy would have one the fight many times over without the free stand up from the mount.

Is someone of the 2 fighters a student of yours sensei? The MMA fighter seemed very calm, simple and effective in his movements and didn't use a "bouncing movement" at all, very pleasing to watch. The Jr.Kudo fighter was very impressive too, but in a different way, very explosive and energetic.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, Nakamura is my student.
I am a sesei of Daido-Juku, and Yuiga-ryu Karate is purely my own research and training. Therefore, it's not usual for me to teach Naihanchi to Daido-Juku students, but exceptions occasionally occur. He is one of those exceptions.
He started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kudo Daido-Juku simultaneously, and later started to challenge to UFC-style naked MMA. He also can do the standard movements of Daido-Juku, I mean bouncing moves very skillfully. By the way, a few years ago, he also took on amateur kickboxing matches, securing a record of two wins in two fights.
However, perhaps due to age, he felt his limitations quickly. Then, he voluntarily integrated my movements, namely the Naihanchi movements (walking moves), and began to innovate.
With this progression, I taught him Naihanchi. Now he says, "This (Naihanchi movements) is the most confortable when fighting in MMA."
After many battles, a certain genius has put together the secrets to winning, and that is Kata.
In other words, the actual battle came first, and the kata were created later.
Therefore, we need to repeat the actual battle first.
Through repeated actual battles, we will be able to learn for the first time the true meaning and true value of Kata.
On the other hand, Oshima is not my direct student. He belongs to another branch. However, lately, he has been coming to my dojo regularly for learning.
He is also young and very talented. That spontaneous burst of energy in his movements, unique to his age group, is exhilarating to watch. I am looking forward to his further growth.

Thank you for your answer sensei. This is very interesting, because that's one more example that the theory you've put forth about training our movement with (correct) kata works in interesting ways, such as the style of this fighter! Let's hope to see more and more try the thoery and succeed!

@@shinjiwatanabe8131wow, that is an interesting perspective on kata. Many people suggest to learn kata before battle. I like your interpretation.

Love that the least explosive guy is the one who got tired being explosive isn’t good all the time but it’s definitely good sometimes especially training so you can work on stamina and endurance first 2 rolls be explosive then the next 2 take ur time catch some air then the next 2 explosive again it’s what I did in wrestling and not I still do it in bjj and judo but I do it for longer now ofc

The uploader of this video explained that the least explosive guy used to be explosive but due to age started to innovate to find different fighting methods using kata. His style is now calm and slowly marching which he finds comfortable with his age.

Actually, he has asthma. Despite this handicap, he continues to challenge himself in his favorite martial arts.
