Still holds all three Triple Crown track records 50 years later. The 1973 Belmont is far and away THE greatest athletic performance ever. A comparison to the last two Triple Crown Winners has Secretariat beating Justify by 16 lengths and American Pharaoh by 13 lengths. His dominance is unprecedented.

Never knew a horse Sergeant Reckless was bought for $250 by the Marine Corps and carried ammo during the Korean War and carried wounded soldiers for treatment with being wounded herself. She earned 2 Purple Hearts and many other awards. God bless the animals. Just wanted to share this. I watch the movie Secretariat and cry. 💗🌷

I remember watching this movie in theaters. I was in 7th grade at the time. Years later, I learned that my mother grew up watching Seattle Slew, the great-grandson of Secretariat’s father, Bold Ruler.

He wasn’t really sold - they needed money to keep farm afloat without selling him outright so they syndicated him for 6 million dollars. I wish they had let him run as a 4 year old although I understand the possible dangers of that. Who knows what we might have seen from this wonder horse though.

He is by far the most amazing equine athlete we have ever had. They talk about Manowar, who was a great horse, but he never ran again the older boys except for Sir Bartlett, who by that point had 1 foot in the grave. His wings were just hidden. Secretariat Pegasus Meadow is his full name. At the end of the Belmont. If his jockey hadn’t pulled him up, he was about to takeoff, he was still going. He wasn’t stopping he was still going he was going to fly. I know I’m crazy but I don’t think there’s any horse in the world that who can do what Secretariat did. And that doesn’t mean winning every race because it matters who you’re running against. you’re with God now secretariat and I’m sure you’re his right hand. I miss you You’re a joyful temperament and your fun personality. I got to see you in 72 at Garden State and in 73 at the Belmont and they were the best days of my life.

This video of Secretariat winning those races, is from the movie of Secretariat, not the real race itself. I can always tell the difference between the horse they used to play Secretariat, and the real Secretariat, it's just too obvious!

Ah. It's clips from the movie. I knew it wasn't actual footage when "Secretariat" was a bay when he was foaled...chestnuts are always born chestnut. They don't change color...

    • @mystryritter5952

I had a filly, born as a red chestnut. She turned liver chestnut at 6 months and then red roan at 3 yrs. So, YES, sometimes they DO turn colors. I do not know if a different color can turn into a red chestnut, but they can definitely change into a different color FROM being a red chestnut.
