The greatest racehorse in history !! His records still stand after 50 years and the Belmont record will stand FOREVER!!😅😅😅 So glad I was alive to watch those races as a 17 year old !!! Nothing cheers me up more now then to watch them again!!!
Great memories! I played with him several times at Claiborne. At 3:25-3:30 you see him pick up a stick, a favorite game of his. We played tug-of-war with one. He loved cameras, + decided when he wanted his picture taken. He even pretended to eat grass, to mess with his grooms or admirers. He was SO smart + fun. Everyone loved him. The horse with the bite cage was probably Hoist the Flag, great grandson of Man O War. He survived a bad injury, his paddock was close to Secretariat's.
It will be 50 years this year when on June 9, 1973 the day before my 20th birthday he won the Triple Crown winning the Belmont. In my opinion it's the greatest race in horse racing history and by doing so he entered immortality. His time has never been broken. Yeah he was beaten a few times, but when he was right no horse could touch him. Not just another horse, but one of the greatest athletes I have ever seen in my lifetime. One of my biggest regrets and I only have a few is I never got a chance to see him in person.
GREATEST is relative to historical perspective..Eclipse was undefeated and often unchallenged. Citation, Man O'War, Ribot, and others were not any second class group. the mare who won the Melbourne Cup several times, the Hugarnina mare who was undefeated. Many of the older English Champions rivaled his records St Simon, Ormonde, Nearco, Bahram, Pharis then Frankel and Personal Ensign along with Ruffian
Yes, the GOAT for sure! The nay sayers always come up with their rebuttles but no other horse captured the heart of a country, and a good part of the world, the way he did. I don't think any horse could have beaten him that day at the Belmont, and he did it on his own, Ronnie was just along for the ride.
Almost 51 years later, and the most of his records still stand. I was a 16 year old when I saw Secretariat win the Triple Crown. My dad bet me $50 double or nothing that Secretariat would not win the Belmont. Dad paid me $100. I have all of the magazines that Secretariat is on the covers of before the Belmont----Time, Sports Illustrated, and Newsweek. He was the GOAT indeed. (Jan Griffiths).

I was very fortunate as a young teenager to see Secretariat race a few times in Baltimore. He was so much larger and muscular than the other horses. He would prance for me when I called his name, Big Red, when he went out to the starting gate area. He was so beautiful and smart.

Nice words right to the matter of fact. Looking and reviewing the Secretariat Saga and Phenomenon as an adult now vs. a 12 year old when it unfolded it seems like it was just a front to shadow his real mission ... it was the Superhorse who singlehandedly humiliated and shamed Nixon and ran him out of the white house. The wrath he unleashed on the fraud began after his spectacular Preakness win, namely the Secretariat for President bumper sticker and button, the other button Breed More Secretariats, that scathing Art Buchwald Secretariat column in newspapers, and his fans calling the planes he flew on Air Horse One. On Belmont Day nixon could not take the heat any longer and fled DC to Florida in to the arms of his favorite crying towel Bebe Robozo. I really believe that nixon rooted against him that day, and the humiliating wrath of the Superhorse reached its zenith when he was crowned KIng on June 9. When he returned to the Belmont Grandstand to be honored the message was clear no words needed ......"See folks I'm just a racehorse playing in a game I can win, but you folks, the silent majority as your ill fated leader calls you are playing in a game you can't win and it is time for you all to wise up".

I love my Thoroughbred Gallopers but Secretariat is possibly the greatest AMERICAN racer ever,to be the greatest of all they need to have run in multiple countries eg PHAR LAP CIGAR ETC ETC
Am I the only one who thinks all breeding stallions would benefit from being ridden 3 or 4 days a week to keep them muscled up and not bored ? It would give them something to look forward to. I’m sure any of Secretariat’s exercise riders would have been honored with the “task” or getting him out. I know they were concerned about possible injuries out on the exercise track but truthfully, they can get injured in the paddocks too. Plus it may have kept his weight down and kept him from getting laminitis. Just a thought.

I’ve seen it said on videos that a few of his daughters did well. I guess the large heart gene wasn’t passed to any of his progeny that had a chance in the racing world.
Not true. He sired General Assembly & Risen Star, who were major stakes winners, But it's as a broodmare sire that he truly made his mark. His daughter Terlingua, produced Storm Cat, and another daughter Weekend Surprise produced AP Indy both very prolific sires
@@camdensubdivision3020 sir,im talking about greatness.non of his progeny reached a known greatness.there maybe a few group 1 winners from him, here and there.but, nothing came to match his greatness or even closer.
If you look at the foal photo his great physical came from his mom! It took Chenery from 1934 until1970 to breed the mare who produced the masterpiece of Secretariat. My dad as a boy lived in Richmond VA and walked barefoot from his Grandmothers house through the woods to watch the horses train on the racetrack Chris Chenery built during the Depression. I believe that horse is Secretariat's uncle Round Table, whose sire Princequillo is Secretariat's maternal grandfather.
@@gspot3706 I was thinking that too. Round table had a reputation for being nasty
Tengo tres fotos de secretaria alguien me puede informar si tienen valor dos ya se me rompió el cristal una está entera
I wish this video had sound.
😆👍
NO AUDIO!
Correct! Converted over to digital from 8mm that had no audio...sorry that is the way I bought it!
THE great NORTHERN DANCER, more than goose rump sec equal, in racing, in importance dancer is light years ahead for breeding, and lifting the breed to the 21st century, not sec., look at the record books, people around the WORLD, that are trainers, breeders, owners, know who the king is, the greatest, NORTHERN DANCER.
Your title is misleading. Secretariat was one of the best, not the best.
Yes, that is fascinating for sure. Just a brilliant marketing campaign that is still going today. Most famous, I agree. The best? Not even close. The wonders of Marketing in full bloom
The horse has held the track record at ALL 3 Triple Crown races for over 50 years now, on video for all to see. Is that the so-called "marketing campaign" you're referring to?
Slow down there, say man of war and 100 years later now people will know the race horse, say Secretariat and people will probably say ,is that the something in Israel government unless their race Fan's.
Greatest racehorse was Man O' War
Yes we all have our favorites & they were both magnificent thoroughbreds but my choice will always be Secretariat, Nex year will be 50 years for his Triple Crown win & no other horse has come close ❤️
Sadly, nothing great came out of him i.e his progeny.
It’s one sided thinking to think only the Sire line is important when the dam is what made this great horse. A lesson to breeders everywhere!

Ahmed, even if you had a son or a daughter with the same mother, I doubt you can duplicate anything like you, unless you produce identical twins, otherwise Its just impossible...
