I’m gonna be honest, after I initially pull up on the top housing, I never keep pulling it up to fully open the camera, but instead push back on the front of the camera out of intense fear of ripping the top housing off.
When did he do that? He didn’t! Why then would Land let Charles and Ray Eames make an advertisement film for the SX-70 where they open it this exact way?

You shouldn’t do that though, it will put strain on the front hinges, and its rivets, which is worse.
Edwin Land said to pull the front of the viewfinder up first, then the rest
