I will watch every one of your videos. Excellent! The St.Anne's Church in Calumet, Michigan was a church less than 100 years. That building of sandstone opened in 1901, was empty and purchased by the municmunicipality/Psrk Service in 1994. I love architecture----the interior on Google is still beautiful.
Thanks again Russ. I really enjoyed this summer's travels and it's great to know there is more to see. Seeing the early morning sun on those old building was beautiful. Especially that old gothic style church. Fantastic.
At the 1:06:34 mark of the video on the right the building with the curved roof is the Calumet Collosseum the oldest indoor ice rink in the world built in 1913.
Hi Russ thank you so much for the tour from silver City Michigan to Calumet Michigan my hometown. It sure looked great seeing it in a movie. By the way free parking on Sundays. Lol. The Big empty lot was because there was a fire lost about 3 or 4 buildings I believe. You do a great narrative also thanks.
Very cool video. It's so different from Arizona, where I'm originally from. I love those old brick buildings. They have a certain warmth to them. Looking forward to seeing more.
I'm watching this in 11/25/23. About the Quincey Copper Mine, now a National Park Service Historic Site---according to a quick Google scan of different sites, this interesting site has a huge dark side. Like so many industries in the 1800's, money and production was the goal. Like other "company towns" there were bonds and a true community, but the air was toxic, noise levels literally deafening, lung "green", the tailings were contaminated including arsenic, chemicals and acids, sewage and water used in manufacturing straight into the potable water source. The NPS has documented cancerous tumors on the fish. The Industrial Revolution made some people rich and the innovation propelled the technology. Like most mines and industrial complexes, the owners simply walked away, leaving the next generation to clean up the mess by taxing the public at large. I live near two Superfund sites. I enjoy seeing old industrial complexes to honor and respect the engineering and pure sweat and body parts lost to the gain of a paycheck, but part of me is angry that the owners who took the profits walked away, leaving a mess. This happens everywhere, including the factory where my dad worked for 38 years.
I made this same road trip September of last year. Drove from Chicago all the way to Copper Harbor. Different world up there, compared to our desert. Also went to Milwaukee and Green Bay. Looking forward to this series.
I really enjoy watching your TH-cam Channel, Russ! I love small towns! It's great that they keep the buildings in town so beautifully restored! That's Americana at its finest! I grew up in a small town, Weirton, WV. Here in Weirton, we had a old time hardware store with wooden floors. My Dad took me to the hardware store when I was little. I enjoyed going to the hardware store. I mean the hardware store was independently owned and operated. When you bought nails they had a set of scales and they would weigh out the nails and put them in a bag. As I had mentioned above, they had wooden floors. Sadly the owner died and the hardware store closed. He had the hardware store since the 1940s. He first retired about 10 years ago. Then he died last year. He was a well respected business man. Out of respect, I'm keeping him anonymous. He had wanted to leave the hardware store to his son but his son didn't want the store. I really don't understand why his son didn't want to keep the store open for business. Weirton's population is a little over 18,000. I wish you safe travels, Russ. Talk soon, Alan.
Another bit about Calumet: At some recent year, all the sidewalks and utilities were redone---$$$$--- likely a National Park Service money, my guess, and to achieve the aura of the late 1880's, the parking meters were moved discreetly against the buildings, overhead utilities moved underground, street lights appropriate style for era.
The Great Lakes have really been recovering from all the pollution of years gone by. Most of the stink's gone too - it really is a gorgeous place to visit or live.
My friend I am a Canadian from Calgary Alberta and I wanna see your video from Kansas City because I like the city. Please let me know when can I watch it. Come to Canada to record some videos here there are a lot of beautiful places.
Awesome! I recently was watching a live tik tok feed of someone talking to the dead in a cemetery in Cherry, Illinois. There was a coal mine disaster there in 1909. A lantern set hay on fire down below that fed the donkeys. What’s weird is I’m in Illinois and never heard of this. Maybe because we used to have coal mines in this area and didn’t want to scare us?
The Douglas house was named after Douglas Houghton. Float copper was on top of ground that the glaciers moved. Ore was taken to the stamp mill and smelters. You walked right by a large green float copper. Calumet had a population bigger than Detroit years ago. It was being consider for the capitol of mi.
I grew up in that area . I lived in Allouez and went to high school in Calumet . At that time we didn’t realize how lucky we were to live our young lives in that area . We called it (Gods Country .
That empty lot in Calumet is the result of a large fire a few years ago. There is video of it on TH-cam where you can watch the front of the building collapse onto the road during the fire.

I can't believe that you didn't mention the Calumet Theater, arguably the most historic building in Calumet.
Wow so beautiful ❤ even enjoy the wildflowers on the side of the road
I do too
Next time you head up our way, try to stay at Krupps Resort in Toivola. It's awesome. Thx for the video, it was a different view for me of my home.

This brings back some fond memories. The UP is a treasure to be cherished.
Hi Russ, love the little town of Calumet, especially the Gene Kelly Singin' in the Rain street lamps.
Looks like close knit communities who watch out for their neighbor! Like the travel videos of extra footage! Thank you!
Fantastic Russ! This should be good!
Looking forward to it.😽
I made this same road trip September of last year. Drove from Chicago all the way to Copper Harbor. Different world up there, compared to our desert. Also went to Milwaukee and Green Bay. Looking forward to this series.

Oh morning!

Parking meters next to the buildings; else they'd be buried in snowbanks after the streets are plowed. It's a UP thing.
Thanks, Russ, for another great road trip. Love the longer videos. Have fun, Mike
You're right, nothing like that old Main St architecture. Sustainability, and character. Beautiful video. 🙂👍👍
Thanks Russ I love seeing my homestate of Michigan. The Upper Peninsula is so beautiful.
The Great Lakes have really been recovering from all the pollution of years gone by. Most of the stink's gone too - it really is a gorgeous place to visit or live.

Wish we could have visited with you while you were up north! Hopefully we catch up with you in Quartzsite this year..
Yes, our highways are tree lined which is why we have so many car/deer accidents. Not so many though in the UP due to the wolf population.

Have to see the Michigan House Cafe. Like walking back in history.

no. that video will be coming out middle of may in about 2 weeks
OK thank you. love your channel. can't wait to see you on the road!
Where is Camulet? I know where Calumet is, for sure, never heard of Camulet.
I thinks this is the most blue sky I've seen in any one's out doors video all year?
My Dad's Great Great Grandfather died of Black Lung in Colorado.
That empty lot in Calumet is the result of a large fire a few years ago. There is video of it on TH-cam where you can watch the front of the building collapse onto the road during the fire.

41 goes to Florida. nice video.
I just realized it says camulet instead of calumet lol!
Back in the mid 80's I chatted with a girl who said she was born / grew up in L.A. When she turned 18 her parents moved the family to Marquette, MI
It’s like tartaria
45 does not go to Florida i-75 does
And US 41 from Copper Harbor to Miami, FLA 1990 miles
Very Much Fun. Nice. Interesting views.
Many thanks!
Speaking of copper mines, there is a big one down your way just west of the New Mexico border.
It's Calumet FYI
superior is the deepest, I think Lake Michigan is the largest
Lake Superior can hold all the water of the other great lakes combined.
@cecerotti wow, I did not know that.
Nope superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world
dont make assumptions on " weather" when you have no clue lol
Rusty 78609 make 20 minutes video don’t get near the views you get. Every so often picture gets blurry. Do you know how not to get a blurry video?
